C'mon, someone's got to have something on the practices

As usual, the Big Blue Curtain's been raised and no news on how this year's squad's shaping up. Someone's got to have some inside scoop. The silence is deafening.

My insider source tells me Reggie looks really good and that among the freshmen, Roby looks most ready to compete at this level. Ash and Roby are both very big and athletic wings.

I know fans are quite worried about the loss of ppg, and the question of who will score, and how much. Makes perfect sense.

I may be spitballing and this is all just for fun, but there seems little doubt that Ash will be a big contributor right away; how much remains to be seen. Ash has an NBA-ready body; he is a fantastic defender and good rebounder for a guard; but can he score consistently and how much? He can also post up most A10 guards. Simple question; can he shoot, and stretch a defense that way?? Or -- even braver -- can he lead the team in ppg & mpg??

Throw in the 3 sophomores, who should all chip in to varying degrees; and I am pretty confident that we can expect up to 30--or more!-- ppg from those 4 guys alone. Why not? it's preseason!!! . . . . . pass the Kool-aid

The little bit I've gotten from non-MBMs is that Ash will be our best player (not really a surprise), Tanner and Mike (put on some serious muscle) have made a lot of progress and have looked good in practice, and a number of the freshmen will help right away. Of the freshmen, it sounds as if MY is the most D-1 ready in terms of size and ability. Roby can really defend, which will keep him in the rotation, but may not be quite ready offensively. There is also a lot of optimism about Jolly, who apparently can really shoot it. Reynolds will also likely play a significant role.

Biggest question appears to be, who plays the 4? It sounds as if both Tanner or Reggie could take major minutes from Grandy, but GG will also have plenty of opportunity.

My question is who is at the 5 when Manning is out of the game? Is it Jolly? More likely, I think we play without a true 5 a lot and have a combination of two among RA, GG and TL playing at the same time. Is TL quick and skilled enough to play some at the 3.

Jolly would be a big step down from Manning in the "defensive presence" department.

If Ash was our best player LAST year, then wow, I might start talking trash to everyone saying we will be going back to the dance.

A starting line up of:

Manning

TL

RA

AY

McBroom (or someone else)

...Does not finish 10th in the A-10.

Projected depth chart:

PG- AM, MR, Bartley

2- AY, Robey, MC

3- MC, MY, TL

4- GG, TL, RA

5- JM, BJ, RA, TL

This make any sense? Would expect this chart will become very fluid throughout this season. For one, I'd expect RA will jump over GG. Also lots of interchangeable players, eg if we need to go big TL could see time at the 3. And not totally convinced MC will be a starter, but instead more of a 6th man sniper type. I give him the edge over MY only because of experience.

It sounds like Jolly could log minutes there, but I also think you could see lineups where RA or TL are essentially playing the 5 spot. I don't think you'll see a whole lot of TL at the 3, especially if MY is ready to play some serious minutes there. Given the sizes of the guards (sans AM), we'll also likely see plenty of 3 guard rotations.

Honestly, there are questions at every position. I just meant to say that it was suggested to me that the 4 spot may have the greatest amount of competition.

I think they will be very competitive and I expect a much higher finish in A10 play than we have be given. Main thing for me is as long as guys are healthy since we will need every player to step up and be productive.

This is not about practice but I had contact with a person high in the AD and was told that Ash was the best player on the team last year - for what it is worth.

SUCK MY DOGGIE'S DICK, A-10 DONGNOSTICATORS. we're going to monkeystomp a LOT OF MOTHERFUOKERS this year. NCAA TOURNEY IS A GIVEN.

don't say i didn't fuoking tell you so ( )( )=====|) http://www.billikens.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=25857&p=425079

The same person told me that TL has shown an ability to shoot the 3 and that Ash is a scorer but more a slasher rather than a shooter - the person is not saying he can not shoot the 3 just that is not the strongest part of his game..

Villanova played 34 games in 12-13. Ash putting up 53 three pointers would equate to LESS than two per game, less than one per half (if he had played all 34 games -- which he did not). Not sure that stat means anything.

For the entire season of 2012-13, Ash averaged 12 minutes of playing time per game, averaged 2.9 points per game, 3-point percentage of .396.

It's a bit misleading to equate his stats on a "per half" basis since his per game average minutes are relatively low.
