3star_reruit, who is Ra Kpedi and what position does he play? How tall is he? I ask because this is the first time I've seen his name.

He's a 6'8 195lb power forward who was a 6th man for Lawrence North, one of the top basketball programs in Indiana. Doesn't turn 16 until September. Quick leaper, good fundamentals in the post. Being watched by a number of high major programs but only has the IUPUI offer so far.

Goodwin retweeted this:

@EricBraasch: @NormSanders @jGoodwin1123 @scottybscout @UIHoopsRecruits SLU is waiting too long on this kid. Need to offer soon

Just the fact that he retweeted it says to me that he has high interest in being a Billiken. A much less likely possibility is that he wants to be an offer collector and is soliciting offers so that he can brag to all his friends about how many schools are interested (I doubt this is true). If he is as interested as he appears, I hope the staff is making it clear to him, offer or not, that they are interested. That is, of course, assuming that they are. Just because a kid is ranked doesn't mean the staff automatically has to believe that he is a good fit at SLU.

If there is a Top 100 guy in the STL metro area and the staff can't find a "fit" for that player, it is probably time to find a new staff.

For all intents and purposes, no 2017 kids have been offered. Pierre-Louis's dad played in the USBL with Jayson's dad back in the day but Jayson isn't going to be here when Nate is a freshman. Maybe the staff is selling him on the idea that he can be "the man" at point guard after Jayson leaves. It's a longshot offer at best.

Historically, the staff begins offering rising juniors in the Midwest starting in mid/late July. Hang tight.

Illinois stands as Goodwin's #1 choice as of now

http://www.scout.com/college/illinois/story/1558813-illinois-emerging-early-for-goodwin

But as of right now, one school is standing out above the rest, and Illinois fans will like Where the Illini stand in his recruitment right now.

“Number 1," he said. "Just something about the coaches I like.”

Groce will not get fired next year. That is like saying Crews should have gotten fired for last years awful season. I grew up an Illini fan, but went to SLU for undergrad and grad. I follow both SLU and Illinois fairly closely. Groce had a rough year with guys getting injured, suspended or kicked off the team. It's hard to win without a full deck. We should all know that being slu fans. I agree that we might have lost Goodwin and offering him now only seem like we were doing it because everyone else is.

Do people honestly think that because we haven't offered we don't stand chance with him? He has mentioned that SLU is one of the schools that was recruiting him hardest. Shoot after watching the video interview with him earlier this month and asked what he likes about his Illinois offer he said, "It's good, it's my state" and basically didn't seem to know much else about them at the time, I would've said it didn't look like they were in great standing.

I just can't imagine if SLU offers in mid to late July and over a year from now with several visits to different schools done, he will say, "Well Illinois did offer in April but SLU was 3 months later so they are out even though they were recruiting me before that." I don't see how offering him now would seem like we are only doing when everybody else is since we were recruiting him before that.

If I had to guess, most of the time right after a visit, the school jumps up on the kids list. Coaches that can't impress a kid when he visits probably don't keep big jobs for long.

The problem with schools like the Illini offering is that SLU can't offer what they offer. Big 10, constant national TV, etc.

What we could offer was a chance to stay home, to build something and to play for the program he wanted to play for at one time. The longer the kid feels snubbed by SLU the less attractive the sentimental stuff surrounding SLU becomes.

The problem is things have drastically changed since a month ago in terms of how you're allowed to contact Class of 2017 recruits. I have no idea how hard we're recruiting him now, but if I do know that what we did a month ago means nothing.

-my biggest take from the Scout article was his comment on the relationship with coaches Groce and Walker, can he say that same thing about JCrews and XXX from SLU?

I don't understand why coaches are given passes when players get suspended or booted. They recruited these kids and if their character sucks that's on the coach.

I am not giving them a pass, but you have to take that into consideration. Some of those things were well beyond the coaches control. Should majerus have been fired when the "incident happened," which included two of his star players?

I'm not saying he should have been fired but it should be a strike against him..
