kwyjibo
The consensus is pretty stable this week after beating a decent but not deep Duquesne and a very poor UMass. Official Adjusted RPI (Oct.12th)--17th (last week 18th) Official Unadjusted RPI (Oct. 12th)-- 19th (last week 20th) NSCAA (coaches) Poll: 13th (last week 20th) Soccer America: 16th (last week 18th) College Soccer News: 18th (last week 18th) Top Drawer: 19th (last week 21st) Massey Computer: 23rd (25th last week)Unofficial RPI : 17th (last week 18th) The coaches deserve an award for yo-yoing SLU around all year. After beating a decent and a bad team they move up 7? Davidson is still looking good to get an at-large. The big news this week in the A-10 was Rhode Island who leads the A-10 at 4-0. They beat Dayton and George Mason to knock them off the bubble for now. This means that SLU's game at Dayton this weekend is really big for them and that SLU's game with Rhode Island will be tough. VCU has had a medocre season. SLU looks like a near lock (a total collapse of 4 straight losses would likely put them out) for the NCAA tournament and is hovering around the seeded bid (top 16 teams get bye and home game in 2nd round). All of the games left in the regular season will help them if won but I would not expect any of the wins by themselves to be a dramatic boost. A win this weekend will get them into the top 16 but SLU but a loss would not hurt too much and a tie should be a small boost. SLU's strength of schedule looks like it will be in the high 50's or low 60's so their RPI will hold up.
slufan13
Thanks again for this. If SLU doesn't get a top 16 seed, do you still anticipate a 1st round home game in the NCAA? I feel like they usually give the home game to the team who is likely to draw a bigger crowd, but I don't really know how it works.
kwyjibo
Yes, I think SLU would tend to get a home game. The only way they enter the tournament on the road is if a team like Northwestern is their playing partner and they finished well ahead of SLU in the RPI . I see SLU most likely playing a team like Western Illinois, Mo State, or Horizon Champ (if UIC or Valpew) if they win their conference and SLU has a decent but not seeded final RPI. Worst case is a team like Akron or Northwestern but will not play them if SLU RPI stays decent. For the record last year the top16 RPI teams got the 16 seeds (although not in RPI order!)
