Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. While I have always questioned his in-game coaching I have tried giving Ford the benefit of the doubt since he has recruited good players. That said, after this I am done and Ford needs to be fired.
  2. My favorites from my SLU student days were: 1) the entire Larry Hughes year and 2) during 1998-99 where we beat Kansas, Cincinnati, and Louisville at Kiel My favorite since then was the tourney weekend in Columbus in 2012 beating Memphis and almost pulling the shocker vs Mich State. It was awesome being there for that.
  3. Agree - I wish one was 100 miles up the road in Indy - I think it’s great though that they are being set up
  4. I was actually impressed with Ford’s coaching the past 2 seasons with little talent and short benches. This season however I have been very unimpressed and felt he has been thoroughly outcoached in every one of our losses. I never miss a Billiken game but don’t enjoy college basketball near as much as I used to due to all the transfers, one and dones, etc. Gordon is a prime example of everything wrong with the game. But the number of players kicked off the team and left the program under Ford has taken it to a new level. I don’t see anything that can get Ford fired after this year but his coaching and ability to keep players has to improve and improve immediately.
  5. I'll be coming in town for the Butler game and will try to attend if there is one.
  6. It was very very bad. But nothing even comes close to the referees from the Houston game back in December (of course the 1 game I saw in St. Louis this year). That was the worst officiated sporting event I have ever seen.
  7. I agree with you that university leadership needs to be looked at and a crisis management team is a great idea. I definitely do not have any confidence in Pestello's leadership, or lack thereof, and my thoughts about the school won't change until he is gone. I was sick of Biondi towards the end and felt it was time for new leadership but it is sad we went to the level of Pestello. Biondi over his time at SLU did phenomenal things for the school and too bad his successor has been nothing but an embarrassment. i had the same reaction as most on this board when I heard the news, our team is doomed for awhile. The more I think about it for the time being I am just trying to stay positive. I am not like others already saying they won't be a fan going forward (they likely never were true fans to start) and are already looking for other teams. SLU is my school and always will be. If we take some huge steps back, I will still watch all games I can but maybe I won't take the 2 hour trip to Dayton as much, or won't make the 4 hour drive to STL as often but I will ALWAYS be a fan. If Gordon decommits, Ford leaves, French leaves, etc then I will officially say we are screwed for the indefinite future and will be more similar to Duquesne or Fordham than Dayton/Xavier etc. Hopefully those don't happen and Ford and his recruiting/ relationships can keep us in a good position. I am a frequent reader but don't post very often so thanks for letting me share my thoughts!
  8. This winter has been particularly bad in Indiana. Lived here almost 10 years and so far only the 13-14 winter was worse. I'm ready for spring!!!
  9. Probably the worst officiated game I have ever seen in any sport. I never leave a SLU game early but these officials almost made me do so tonight. Embarrassing. The Atlantic 10 should never allow them to officiate another game.
  10. It is hard to disagree with anything said here. I don't post much on this board but read it frequently and watch every game on TV (attend a few a year). This is the most frustrating year so far in the 25+ years I have watched SLU (and I was in the 4th row sitting by Taj at the infamous 20 point game at GW). I thought it got off to a pretty good start and thought they might be improving upon last year's disappointment. However since the 2nd half of the Lousville game it has been embarrassing. I thought Crews did a fine job taking over for Majerus but he even admitted he had to do little coaching since the kids ran Majerus' system. But looking back on it, with the losses to Oregon and Lousville, he really held us back then as well. If we had Majerus those years we could have made a serious run at the Elite 8 or at least Sweet 16. The worst part particularly in recent games is how flat we come out in the 2nd half. One thing that spoiled us about Majerus was even when we got off to slow starts, Majerus was the best at making the necessary adjustments at halftime to turn the game around. Crews is the complete opposite and gets outcoached every game. The last two games were the worst with the 22-2 run by Indiana State and than the run by SIU last night. Even in our bad games I watch every second of the games but I have been more than happy to fast forward through the last two 2nd halfs. So between not deciding on his main starting guys and just getting outcoached in every aspect, I don't know how he still has a job. Crews should have been fired yesterday and I wrote Chris May saying exactly that and I encourage others to do the same. The last thing we want after being brought up by Majerus to a solid program is to go down the tubes to worse than we were previously and that is exactly what is happening which is very sad and action needs to be taken now to get rid of Crews and try to turn things around when we can. Another year or two of this and it will be much harder. Lastly about Crews, I live in Indianapolis and know somebody at work who has friends who go to the church Crews did a couple years ago and he was told Crews seemed very happy in retirement until which time as Majerus recruited him out of retirement. So in addition to him just not being a good coach, I really wonder how much his heart is in it. Merry Christmas to everybody out there in Billiken land.
  11. the long 3 pointer by Kwamain against Memphis in the NCAA Tourney
  12. Trust me - no way will he be on the final roster - there is a reason all other teams passed on him and no not for the reason most people associate him which I am sick of hearing about - he will not be a good (or any) NFL player for that matter i also think it is a disservice everybody is talking about him more than all the higher drafted individuals who deserve more attention
  13. Can't thank the seniors more for the memories. These were the greatest years of Billiken basketball and they will never be forgotten.
  14. I cannot stand Barnett and instinctively say "no" whenever he touches the ball each time but I have to give him credit, he has played great defense tonight.
