kshoe
Not sure if this was mentioned earlier, but it has been reported that Porter is having lunch with Nolan Berry in Indy today. For those who claim that SLU did not recruit Berry very hard, that is wrong. Cusumano said SLU was very aggressive and that Porter had a good relationship with the kid. What I was told a couple years ago by someone I trust was that Berry and Porter were very close. The Berry family wanted some assurances that Porter would be the coach in waiting if Majerus left. The school was unable/unwilling to provide those assurances so he looked elsewhere. It doesn't surprise me at all that he is looking at Loyola and it wouldn't surprise me if that is where he ends up. Not exactly tearing it up and now in the Valley wins may even come harder then in the Horizon.
jimbofive
i've heard from a reliable source with a garden hose and time to kill that nolan berry has resumed brett jolly's place in the washbasin. rumor has it that he's trying to transfer out of the washbasin, but he's not having a lot of luck, because he's a goofy, starry-eyed fuok. ACE
Crews is visiting Nolan Berry on Monday. Other schools that have been in contact include Loyola, FGCU, Vermont, Northwestern, Davidson and UC-Davis. Not exactly a powerhouse list... at least not nearly as good as the list of schools interested in Ash when he transferred.

Bizziken
Am I making things up, or did Berry break both of his wrists in high school? I'm not a doctor, so I wonder if that could have affected his performance at all...

I'm not a doctor, so I wonder if that could have affected his performance at all... I forgot what it was exactly (wrists, arm, elbow), but he did have a simultaneous injury to both sides. I think his legs went out from under him in practice and he used his hands/wrists to break his fall, causing the fractures.

UD Davis is actually a very good school in the UC system, the best public education system in the country.

I think when he announced he said the names of a bunch of big schools he was going to look at, but I am pretty sure when he anoounced he choose SLU it came out it was between SLU, Pitt, and Hofstra. bauman
I appreciate your comments about the scarcity of bigs and agree that guards are more plentiful, but we haven't had a truly good shooter since Lisch and we haven't had a truly good outside shooting team in years. 0-15 last game says it all. And our poor shooting was not only this past game but for most of this season. And as good as we were last year, basically this year's team with KM and CE, we still struggled against zone defenses last years. Sorry, but until we become plentiful with good shooting guards, we need to use our limited scholarships to restock the guards. Personally, I prefer a 3 guard offense and with the size and length of some of our guards, wouldn't mind an occasional 4 guard offense if our bigs take longer than expected to develop. Clock, you couldn't be more correct. Shooting is the issue, the issue. Remember how nice it was to have SH, EC and HW at the same time. All they missed was having the really good bigs to go with them. We lost in the NCAA last year to Oregon because we couldn't shoot and lost this year for the same reason (coupled with our leading scorer not being able to make free throws on his numerous trips to the line). Outside shooting opens everything else up. I would love to see Reggie operate with 3 sharpshooters from the arc. We might have 2 of the 3 already with MC and TL but we're not sure of that. Let's get someone who can step in right now and shoot 40% + from the arc and hope one of our incoming Guards can also be a threat from outside. The only thing consistent about our 3-pt shooting this year (and last) was that we were inconsistent, at best.
hsmith19
I'm not ready to give up on McBroom being one of the sharpshooters. Yeah, his long cold streak was concerning, but he was still our best over the course of the last season (I know that's not saying much). And even Claggett only shot .330 on 3PA his first year at SLU. I would be surprised if McBroom isn't around 40% on tons of attempts next year.
JettFlight5
As long as somebody can make a jumper and this team can play D, they're not out of very many games.
Basketbill
Good school. Nice campus. Terrible program and terrible coach. Only been Division I for a little while. They play in the Rec Center, which when seats are fully depolyed seats 10,000. Saw the Tallking Heads there in early 80's, and of course many Dachsund races as well

BLIKNS
One possible play with FGCU could be, they have a kid from DeSmet, maybe Mueller 6-11, walked on at mu, then went JUCO.. signed with FGCU, could he be close friends with Nolan ? GOSLU68
Back to Nolan Berry; both he and Tanner Lancona should look at TL's stats and think SLU could be a good fit and SLU coaches gave TL as many minutes as he deserved considering his defensive problems, early. We can't know if Nolan Berry deserved a better look. TL had same shooting percentage, better on 3's and slightly better on rebonding. It was disappointing that Reggie was not redshirted> I think SLU should try and get him an extra year. He showed unusual speed; I hope the shoulder mends 100% for nest season. Nolan Berry would probably take a year to be a major contributor but I would like to see the three of them junior year.
