SLUDrew
Football only in 2012-2013 and then all sports in 2013-2014 Huge blow to the A-10 http://brett-mcmurphy.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/29532522/35126968
ACE
Well that sucks. So far all the shuffling involving the Big East hasn't helped... and now it has hurt us. Make a strong push for Butler.
SLUDrew
Make strong push for Butler or explore contraction. We cannot lose a solid RPI team like Temple and just keep the rest of the league the same with so many RPI anchors at the bottom of the league. Whoa - suddenly the Valley looks good; better TV contract and the ability to actually drive to a bunch of games.
slu72
Hoot... hoot. Now let's ***** slap 'em for jumping ship in the tourney final. The A-10 now has to do some serious soul searching as they've lost a long time prominent member and downgraded the league's rep as one of the best, if not the best, conference outside the 6 power houses. However, prior to RM's interview with BM, where he said he's trying to position SLU for admission into the much fantasized "Papal" conference, I could picture him running and huffing his way up to Fr. B's tower office screaming, "that's it, we gotta jump to the MVC!" And what makes everyone so sure Butler wants to leave the Horizon. Save for this year, they're just about a lock to be the annual champs.
cheeseman
The MVC does not look any better - if X and Dayton can get their acts together the A10 can be fine. I would not rush out and just get anybody. We have a full year to replace the team since Temple will still be playing bb for next year with the conf. RM can huff and puff all he wants with Biondi but that is the worse way to get what you want with him. RM and I have always disagreed on this topic - however, yesterday he said he has no problem with the A10 just would like to work the travel thing out so kids don't miss so much class time. That is something the league can do if they choose to and now with Temple leaving they will not want to lose anybody else so they may be more open to accomodating us. tigerluke
I know Majerus crows all the time about the travel requirements that being in the A-10 causes; perhaps this will be the first move that will eventually lead to SLU moving back to a Midwest-based conference? Unfortunately it's football that's driving this whole thing. Who are the best basketball-only programs out there as you guys see it? It might make sense for them to just go ahead & band together now. cheeseman
DePaul, Marq, Creighton, Dayton, X, Butler, SLU - after that you can make your own argument for the rest to make up a 12 team conf. What you are suggesting is what some on here have been saying for sometime.
moytoy12
Not sure if this has been asked, but should we join the MVC or would people prefer to stay in the A-10?
White Pelican
Not sure if this has been asked, but should we join the MVC or would people prefer to stay in the A-10? I want to join the MVC since most of their teams hold Senior Night BEFORE the game. Also, it's an easy drive to Omaha and Terre Haute. A no-brainer. And thanks for asking, I don't think there's been near enough discussion about this exciting possibility.

What you are suggesting is what some on here have been saying for sometime. That makes the most sense to me. It's all only going to get worse once Syracuse & Pitt leave for the ACC & I'd be willing to bet that UConn & one other team jump ship to the ACC too, and that'll be the first 16 team mega-conference (disclaimer: not at all an original thought). Then you'll have the B1G and SEC grabbing football programs so they can get to 16 as well. If everybody raids the Big East for football (which I could see for teams like Louisville, Rutgers & maybe even Cinci), that could be good for SLU if it leaves Marquette & DePaul without a home. SLU21
Agree that the big shift is going to be the 16 team super conferences for football. At which point the bball only schools will be told to take a hike. Absolutely vital that we are able to hook up with these bball only schools. Have to get wins in the tournament to raise our profile so we do not get left out to dry when the big chips fall. Prom is coming up, time to get pretty so we get an invite. maverick
Can't see it happening, but boy I'd love an All Catholic Conference -- God's own little ACC ...
jbizzle09
Summit League or bust. What about the MAC or Horizon? I think you are definitely selling them both short.
slu72
Not sure if this has been asked, but should we join the MVC or would people prefer to stay in the A-10? Jeez, good question, Moy. Wish I'd thought to ask it.
Box and Won
What about the MAC or Horizon? I think you are definitely selling them both short. The big factor for me is that I really want to be able to play both Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis AND Indiana University-Purdue University-Fort Wayne at least once a year. That makes the Summit League a no-brainer. Perhaps my emotions are clouding my judgement in this case.
Pistol
What about the MAC or Horizon? I think you are definitely selling them both short. I'd rather go to the Great West. A couple more teams and they can get an auto bid.

Well, the 800 pound gorilla in all this is Texas. Had they moved to the PAC 12 when they were being wooed last year, you can bet the 4 16 team conferences would already have been a done deal. But since they've decided to keep the B12 afloat, at least for now, all we're gonna have is the Papal Speculation Conference.
Iggy
I think we should join the NBA. Think about what that would do for our strenght of schedule.

Bay Area Billiken
My current opinion is SLU should stay in the A10 for now, even with Temple leaving after the '12-'13 season, and as long Xavier and Dayton are in the A10. I think the A10 positions SLU best to get into the Catholic Big East/Papal Conference, if and when it comes to fruition.
SLU7881
Temple leaving is a huge problem. Temple has been in the NCAA the past 4 years, and this will 5. Plus theyve been high seeds. They and X have been the marque teams. Id be for getting Butler, VCU, Valpo. If UMASS goes, get BU. Anyway I hope the have a helluva a plan
