Band Man's Achievements

Freshman

Freshman (2/7)

  1. You better start sending Willie some Imo's and Krispy Kremes then...
  2. I really enjoyed Woodside as echoed by several others. Also, Mendez-Valdez from Western Kentucky has been really fun to watch - real scrappy player. The little known player that I have enjoyed watching the most, however, was Larry Sanders from VCU. The kid is everything we hope Willie will be next year. He's 6'9" 205 pounds. After having stats a little worse than Willie in his freshman year, he really turned into a big star this year averaging 11.3 points and 8.6 boards a game. By the end of the year he was just dominant. In their conference championship game against George Mason he scored 18 points, pulled down 20 boards, and had 7 blocks. Seeing him against UCLA, if Willie can turn himself into the presence that Larry Sanders was at the end of this year we are in great shape.
  3. The point is not disagreeing that Dayton played better today. It's a disagreement with the assertion that Dayton is the better team. Sure they won today, but I don't think they are the better team. Good win for the conference no doubt, though, and that wasn't the point of the post. Another win for the conference tonight on the officiating front though. Our good friend Joe Demayo handling the L'ville game..haha.
  4. TODAY is the key word there. Based on your last post I just though you had the illusion that Dayton was the superior team in the long haul. I just don't see them winning more than maybe 3 games if these two teams played a 10 game series.
  5. Dayton is certainly not the better team. WVU plays in the Big East, arguably the best conference in the nation, and was still able to finish the season with a top 15 Offensive and Defensive Efficiency Rating. Dayton played out of their minds with two guys in particular having career days, and WVU played horrendously shooting only 25% from behind the arc. That was not the same Dayton team that SLU saw twice.
  6. Roy, you are essentially arguing that once RM has a player at a certain position that he should no longer recruit players at that position. It is the coach's job to win. If there is somebody out there that will improve this team at any position on the floor and immediately become an impact starter you cannot logically say that he should not recruit that guy just because somebody's feelings might get hurt when their playing time decreases. I mean honestly, under your premise if Luke Meyer were still around, you would argue that it would be wrong for RM to recruit a guy like WR or JS or CE to improve at the 3/4 because it might take away Luke Meyer's playing time. That is absolutely ridiculous. With that sort of recruiting the program would never improve and would always stagnate at the level of its current roster. Also, In the scenario set out by Clock, it wouldn't be Majerus' doing that the player leaves. It would be the choice of that player to hopefully go to a LESSER program where there won't be players better than him at that position. I can't fault a player for leaving in search of more playing time, but you cannot possibly fault RM either.
  7. On kenpom.com he has a "3-Pt. Tracker" comparing last years nation-wide stats with this year's. This shows that the difference made by adding length to the 3-Pt. line is miniscule. Last years nationwide average for 3's was 35.1% and this year it is 34.3%. If this holds true with the guys we have coming in...particularly Ellis we are in great shape.
  8. I might be way off based on this one, but in recent weeks the Boston Celtics staged a similar thing. They had a fan "planted" in the audience who put on that type of performance when the song Living on a Prayer started playing. Everybody thought it was a real candid thing that they happened to catch on tape, but turns out it was staged. Here is that clip:
  9. Trey, I have absolutely no problem with you criticizing Willie's play. Everyone understands that he has some stuff to work on. The hype about Willie has a lot to do with the high ceiling that you mentioned he possessed. Furthermore, he's just an electric and exciting player. Add to that the energy he brings to the floor and it's no wonder he's a fan favorite. Some guys have that "it" factor and others don't. The problem I did have with your post is the fact that not only did you throw Willie's character under the bus, but you compromised the group of players you hang out with. Any posts in which you insinuate that certain players are telling you about Willie's "poor choices" should never be repeated for several reasons. First and foremost, nothing good can come from these comments. If people are going to like Willie, nothing you say is going to change their mind. He's a fun player to watch. However, by making the claims you did, you run the risk of creating dissension within the team. What if someone were to tell Willie that certain guys on the team are talking about him and judging him. A team of freshman this talented will continue to grow and develop their skills. Great teams, however, have a certain level of cohesion. If there are problems within the team, that is only going to stunt the growth of the cohesion and rapport these guys must develop. All that being said, I appreciate what you bring the board. There is some insight that you will be able to get that nobody else can. Just be careful what you choose to divulge. Otherwise, keep up the good insight!
  10. All students got an email saying that only 350 student tickets remained for Saturday's game. That must be a good sign. They are really publicizing that one pretty well throughout campus. I'd like to go ahead and steal your question now with regards to tomorrow's game? In light of my previous comment, this one, for whatever reason, was not publicized or hyped up as well to the students. Hopefully it's because fewer tickets remained.
  11. I was actually making the same comment walking from the game. Some kid was walking in front of me who clearly wasn't at the game and said to his buddy, "I wonder what was going on tonight...seems like a lot of people!" I mean come on! I'm fairly certain the Athletic Dept. sent reminders out about this game too. Also, I agree that this was the worst crowd of the night. When I saw the exodus to the exits before OT started I couldn't believe it. On a sidenote: I noticed they were advertising for the "Billiken Blizzard" on the scoreboard. I assume that is going to be a Whiteout game. If people actually show up and wear white that will be an extremely cool effect.
  12. You look at that list and what strikes me most is the balance. Including Remekun, you have 6 bigs - 3 of which are typical bigger framed tough type big men (BT, BC, Ellis) and 3 of which are long, tall, athletic (WR, Smith, Remekun). We'll be able to throw a lot of different looks at our opponents with that kind of mix and balance.
  13. You also have to remember that these Aussies aren't like most recruits in the sense that by playing on an international stage, their learning curve and adjustment period won't be as long. It's feasible that these guys could make an immediate impact and come in ahead of most of the other recruits.
  14. Yes please do explain. A loss is a loss at this point...you don't get "moral" victories at this point in the year against an opponent that has built a gaudy record based on a weak out of conference schedule.
  15. Most of what is going on regarding KL right now on this board is not ranting. Granted there are some who offer no analysis other than the fact that "KL is garbage" or stuff like that. The rest of it is all valid criticism. Being a message board discussing SLU basketball, when somebody who we have grown to expect to play consistently well begins to play some of the worst basketball of his career it is going to be a MAJOR topic of discussion whether you like it or not. If you are sick and tired of the valid discussion because it may not praise a certain player then don't read the threads...fairly simple solution.
