"The position of the player’s skates and not that of his stick shall be the determining factor in all instances in deciding an off-side. A player is off-side when both skates are completely over the leading edge of the blue line involved in the play."

On TV they were saying the skate had to be touching the ice, is that not correct? Also for Hockey fans please explain how the #2 team plays the #3 team in the 1st round? Also isn't it stupid that you can review something that happened approx. 10 seconds before a goal but not a play that takes a power play away from a team?

This is exactly why baseball does not allow challenging the foul balls. There is a certain level of subjectivity that must remain in the officials' hands in order for the energy to not be completely sucked out of a game. The rule is garbage and I would be surprised if it still exists next season. How can you reverse a goal because of an infraction that occurred 15 seconds earlier after a whole sequence of events has already taken place in between the offsides and goal? Stupid.

The idea that your skate has to be on the ice to be onside is absurd.

So the refs miss a questionable decision and are able to review it and erase a goal, but the refs miss Schwartz getting tripped and can't review it, leading to a power play and the go-ahead goal for the Blackhawks? Seems ridiculous. Not to mention not reversing the goalie interference call or calling Fabbri for a horrible embellishment penalty. Combine that with the fact that Kane should be in prison and Keith should still be suspended and it all adds up to a really questionable outcome.

Smells more like the NHL (Toronto on the replays) didnt want the Stanley Cup champs going down 0 and 2 due to ratings and $

Via some guy on twitter, the skates does not have to be in contact with ice.

I believe rule 69 is the one to refer to. (http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/rules/2015-2016-Interactive-rulebook.pdf) The attacking player's contact with the goalie occurred on a rebound (subsection 7), thus no interference. Furthermore, his position in the crease did not interfere with the goalies vision or ability to defend his own goal. It was a lucky goal. The attacker swung at the rebound off of the goaltenders chest area and hit the puck with his upper stick and the goaltenders left leg with the blade (the only contact initiated by the attacker), sending the puck over to the left side of the goal, where he poked it in just beyond Elliot's left skate. Good call. Game over.

I know people are passionate but rules are rules, stupid or otherwise. Who wants to win on bad/incorrect/wrong calls?

I love coach's challenges and replay rules by the way. Good stuff.

His skate is neither in contact with, or on his own side of the line. It is on the line. Good call. Next.

Nope. "A player is off-side when both skates are completely over the leading edge of the blue line involved in the play."

You concede that it's on the line. Unless you're somehow claiming that the side of the line towards his own goal is the leading edge, that was an improper call.

And in any event, overturning requires irrefutable visual evidence. If they saw that photo above or anything close to it, the evidence was at best ambiguous and the on-ice call should have stood.

Last night's NHL Playoff Hockey game was an unmitigated farce.

The Chicago bandwagon jumping apologists, both the fanbase and Chicago homer media, know Chicago lost that game, that Toronto and the refs handed Chicago that undeserved win. Reading them all is providing comedic relief.

1. There was no conclusive evidence to overrule the call on the ice of no off sides and good go ahead goal by Tarasenko.

2. By the NHL's own precedence, Keith should have been suspended for more than 6 games, just 1 in the Playoffs.

3. The non-call "good goal" on the goalie interference was highly questionable, but that power play does not even happen had the colossal gaffe not been edicted on #1 above.

The NHL is the 4th major league and in danger of falling to #5 behind the MLS. None of the 7 Canadian teams are in the Playoffs. The NHL Office in Toronto and its TV partners need big market Chicago in the Playoffs for TV ratings.

That game last night was close to Don Denkinger level incompetence, and was clearly game dispositive.

The ridiculous 2 replay delays and results thereof made NHL Playoff Hockey look like the WWE or Roller Derby.

Shame on all involved in this travesty.

Let's Go Blues!

The overruling from somewhere, by the refs on the ice, from the NHL Office in Toronto, from an igloo in Yellowknife, whatever, NEVER should have happened.
