The last I've heard -- (couple weeks back) -- I can tell you this much:

GG has one more year of eligibility and plans to use it, here or elsewhere.

GG graduates and is eligible for immediate transfer and play.

GG wants to stay at SLU. all of which is to say: NO, I don't expect he will e part of senior night.

I think he would add some good leadership toughness and work ethic to a young group that needs all of that stuff. Desperately. GG is a workout fiend, healthy and ready to rock and roll, and frankly could add much to next year's team; plus he's one of the best dudes on the team in many years.

I know the board might think otherwise, but I hope the staff welcomes him back and offers a schollie. Loyalty is big with me and if I read Coach JC correctly, it is with him too. So don't be surprised to see GG back in Billiken blue. There does seem to be more to this story that I am not privy too; I admit. So who knows?? Not sure why but I'd like to know, if anyone has a reason he seems to be in the doghouse ....

O yeah, before some other MBM reminds us all about the # of schollies: no worries boys we'll have at least one leftover for GG, if not more... take it to the bank.

2 Thoughts

1. Will Grandy be involved?

2. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just being honest... Would it be better to honor Manning before the game and not risk everyone leaving after the game?

If rumors from an "inside source" in regards to why GG isn't with the team anymore, he better not be involved. His conflict with JC is embarrassing and overshadows any prior contributions to the programs.

Not mean, realistic. I too believe the crowd wouldn't feel the responsibility to honor him alone yet if the honors took place before the game, fans would have essentially be required to take place in them.

I have no problem with him coming back next year, but if he does that does that make him a senior or constitute any reason to honor him as a departing senior? Sure, he'd be a nice addition to next year's team, but let him do his time in the doghouse to learn a lesson.

ONE OF THE BEST DUDES ON THE TEAM IN MANY YEARS??? In terms of talent, contributions, or personality? Please clarify.

It's not just Manning. There is also at least one senior manager.

I hate when Senior Night is done after the game. It should be before or during halftime; coaches probably wouldn't go for halftime, though.

After last year, I agree. It should be before the game.

That was a pretty special senior class that got that treatment.

As a wise man said not too long ago before he was so rudely attacked, just as long as they are the right players who leave - ;)

Since Doctor B opened up the topic, it is now ok to talk about. What needs would be most important to fill with available scholarships? Of course some of this is contingent on who is leaving, but I would rank 1) PG 2) Rebounding Big 3) Scoring from anywhere. Wow, we have a lot of needs. The 2 & 3 are the only areas where we appear to have a lot options. We really need some interior scoring, but could also certainly use another perimeter player who can score.

Forgot about managers. But it's not like the crowd stays around for them either.

Manning isn't any good, but he still deserves his recognition. He still put 4 years into the program and honestly he contributed more than some seniors do in other programs. But with the way the arena literally groans when he shoots the ball, I just worry that it could be embarrassing if 8000 fans file out of the arena after the game.

Maybe I'm wrong, but SLU fans haven't given me much reason to believe in them.

Don't forget the managers! Sensitive spot for me. Not that anyone was in the stands even before the Senior game in 2005.

This may be the weakest senior night in a long time (there were no seniors in 2001-2002 except one manager, Declan O'Neill), but seniors still deserve their due. It should be before the game so that fans don't have the chance to leave.

I am pretty sure DocB mean personality-wise. I can personally attest to that. I've had the pleasure to meet and talk with Grandy a handful of times since he first came to SLU and he's always been extremely personable and charismatic.

I know Majerus had Senior Night after the game. Coach Crew's coach, Coach Knight, always had it after the game also. That likely is where Coach Crews got his idea.

-there is no perfect way to do Senior Night as shown by the different ways it is done across the game

-JM is the player he is with the disadvantage of Rick making the comments he did about JM and the NBA thereby inflating the expectations many had of him, I don't recall seeing comments about him being anything other than a good teammate or any bad marks on him for anything off the floor during his time at SLU

Reefer madness.
