slufan13
Texas Pan American? I said this before. After this non conference schedule, we won't know if we're going to be really good, but we will know if we'll be bad.

cheeseman
While this is not a great non conf schedule it is not an undefeated one either. WSU, ISU, Vandy, and the tourney teams - not here - are not gimmes. Think about the team we have not the one we had - I could see 5 losses here if we are not careful. By the way Rockurst does not count so we only have 12 non conf games that matter.

Vanderbilt will be an interesting game as they don't have any real upperclassmen but do have a really talented group of freshmen and sophomores. ACE
Now seeing it, I would be happy with 10-3 in the non-conference. Most likely losses Indiana State, WSU and an early season loss to one of those crap teams in that tournament. Other possible stumbling blocks - Methdale first game of the season so who knows how we come out of the gate, South Dakota State, Vermont and Vandy - I would hope by the time we play them in late December that we are beginning to mesh and could beat a team like this at the Fetz. Taj79
Wow! Talk about lightweights. NC A&T ranked 339 out of 351 on the KenPom last year. Texas Pan Am at 296. SIU-E at 285. TCU 234. Texas A&M-CC at 217. Bradley at 214. Mississippi State at 208. And all those schools were BELOW Fordham who finished at 204. SIU was 158. SD State 133. Vandy 112. Indiana State 108. Only Vermont at 70 and Wichita State at 5 come in from the top 100. And. of course, Rockhurst doesn't count. At first blush, I'd say this was cupcake as cupcakes go. Porbably planned that way given our dearth of experience. I think slufan13 has summed this up very well. Still ... can't wait.
slufan13
Those teams in that Tourney went a combined 10-44 in their respective conferences last year. With 7 of those 10 wins coming from Bradley.
RUBillsFan
SIUE is on the schedule which means: 1. Series was a 2 for 1 with 2 games at Chaifetz (2012 & 2014) and 1 at SIUE (2013) -It was speculated that the series was 2 for 1, but I seem to recall that rumor being shot down. 2. We are starting another home & home with SIUE (shudder) -While I understand that argument that we can't dodge other local teams and then complain about Mizzou dodging us, it seems that we proved we would play SIUE. Starting another home & home with an awful team would be foolish. 3. Either 2012 or 2014 is/was a buy game and the other games constituted the series. -I suppose this would make some sense if #1 isn't the case. Ultimately, this doesn't matter much. I'd like to think it was a 2 for 1 series because that means SLU got a better "deal" playing that game at SIUE..
slufan13
Last year we were 11-1 when we had 70+ possessions. Only loss was to Louisville. Hoping to play at a faster tempo this year.
kwyjibo
Last year we were 11-1 when we had 70+ possessions. Only loss was to Louisville. Hoping to play at a faster tempo this year. First off, and most importantly, you are wrong about the facts. SLU lost with over 70 possessions to Wisconsin, Wichita St. AND Duquesne. So 11-4 it is. Second, even if true it would not necessarily mean playing at a faster tempo makes a particular team better (obviously it may good strategy to play faster against weaker opponents, or it could be the team evolved and were better/worse for different reasons at different parts of the season, etc.) Anyway, SLU had a better record with less than 70 possessions. SLU started 15-0 with fewer than 70 possessions and finished 15-3. I expect people looking at this stat to advocate for slowing things down. kwyjibo
The most interesting thing about this schedule is the TV. ESPN stayed away except for the VCU game but 9 games on NBC or CBS Sports Networks is better than I expected. There are a few other "produced" games (3) and if St. Louis TV produces a few more games they may be on regional sports networks. That would make 13-16 games for the rabid fan. I know that's the 2 teams possessions averaged, but my numbers are accurate and my point remains. Those games were our most successful pace last year. Hopefully they are just broadcasts that FSMW can pick up for a nominal cost. The A-10 Network means they will produce the games. These have been available at FSMW in the past. College Insider's is a website that streams games. They promote things as "exclusive" but when SLU was on one last year, I think it was also available in St. Louis or regional cable. slu72
The TV schedule is weak compared to the last 3 years where I got just about every game on FSMW, CBS sports, NBC sports, and ESPN. Does this mean the media thinks we're gonna suck?
Taj79
I don't know that "suck" is the right word. I think any legit outfift (TV, writers, etc.) is gong to take one look (as I did) at our returnig players, rising sophomores and SIX freshmen and conclude towards the negative on our "attractiveness." Now, that trend may change as many of you believe it will but right out of this gate, I am not surprised. If as noted in a previous thread we accept our "mendoza line" at 11 wins, and we don't achieve that against this schedule, it truly will be the worst season in the last 20 years. Does this mean the media thinks we're gonna suck? Pretty sure last year was like this too at the beginning. More games were picked up closer to the start of the season. That would be my hope again this year at least.
STLfan
Hopefully FSMW picks up some games. I'll be shocked if they don't pick up a bunch of them. With Mizzou games going to the SECN and Illinois having the BTN, SLU doesn't have much competition for FSMW. If FSMW wants to show college basketball games what other good options do they have? I'm just hoping I'll get to see as many games as possible. I just moved to KC this summer so the more national or at least regional broadcasts the better.
