  1. This is a link to the Illini board about Rueben Cotto from Alton. Does anyone know anything about him. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=169&F=2...6&t=1592015
  2. August 28, 2007 Devin Hill Sets Visits Devin Hill, a 6-foot-9, 195-pound senior power forward from Stamford (Ct.) St. Luke's, has begun to set his official and home visits. Hill, who has been compared favorably to current UConn big man and former New York Gaucho Curtis Kelly, will take a home visit from St. Louis head coach Rick Majerus on Sept. 11 and will then visit the school officially Sept. 20. DePaul head coach Jerry Wainright will also visit Hill's Connecticut home the week of Sept. 10, and Hill hopes to set up an official to the school at that meeting. UMass and Seton Hall are also in the mix, and Hill has visited both schools unofficially. At this point, Hill seems curious about what Majerus and St. Louis have to offer. "I've never been to St. Louis," he said. "If I go there, my first year will be the 2008-09 season. They are going to have a new arena built, a $100 million arena, and my class would be the first to play there. "Rick Majerus is a Hall of Fame coach. Every power forward that started for him got drafted, Keith Van Horn, Michael Doleac." As for UMass, Hill visited that school earlier this month and enjoyed his time with head coach Travis Ford. Hill has been to Seton Hall on several occasions for events, but said he has not heard from Bobby Gonzalez's staff recently. For the time being, he's enjoying the last days of summer before school starts.
  3. Good looking Video.. He's quick, can drive, now can he shoot?
  4. Brad Sturdy OrangeandBlueNews.com Staff Talk about it in The Orange Crush' Em board Scott Suggs has long been a target for the University of Illinois basketball program, but afterhis performance last Sunday at the Illinois High School shootout served notice that the 71st ranked player in the Rivals 150 for 2008 is an impact player. Scott Suggs The wing prospect is no stranger to the Illinois campus, having tripped up to Champaign on a few occasions. He enjoys the opportunity to play against the talent on the other teams. "I've been up here a few times, so I pretty much know my way around a little bit," Suggs said. "I like to play against other good players, and of course it's good for our team to get ready for the season and work on some offense. Illinois is a great program and I have a very good relationship with the coaching staff." Whenever fans are able to attend these types of shootouts, it is common for them to look for a marquee matchup between two elite level players. The players also look forward to those challenges, but in the case of Suggs he didn't get the chance to plan for that until right before the games. "Actually, coach didn't even give us a schedule," Suggs said. "I didn't even know what times we played. Before the games he'll tell us about the other team, and once you get out there you want to go after them a little bit." One of the most exciting battles on the day may have been his one on one battle with 2009 guard prospect Joseph Bertrand of Sterling. Suggs came away impressed with him. "I thought he was pretty good," Suggs said. "He's got some nice moves and he can get to the basket pretty good. He's going to be a good player." Suggs used his 6-foot-7, 185-pound frame and long arms to be a factor on both ends against Bertrand, and Bertrand noted the length of Suggs had an effect on both ends. For Suggs it was just a matter of using what you have. "You always try and use what you have," Suggs said. "With your length you try and take as big a stride as you can and get to the basket, and you can use it to get into passing lanes on defense." Suggs had previously narrowed his list to seven schools, including Illinois, Missouri, Washington, Florida, Kansas, Wisconsin, and Clemson . Since that time he has added another school. "St. Louis might be on that list now so it is really eight schools," Suggs said. "We went down there a couple of weekends ago." Billiknes head coach Rick Majerus has a track record of turning programs around and Suggs has noticed. He feels he has to take a look at the local school. "He's turned a whole bunch of programs around and you expect him to turn this one around too," Suggs said. "It's something you have to look at." As he works on trimming his list, Suggs is also working on his game trying to better prepare himself for the next level. "I need to get stronger obviously," Suggs said. "I'm just gonna keep working on shooting and ball handling."
  5. Vtime, I know you have mentioned before that you were impressed with Tillman. I have never seen Tillman but I have seen Powell, can you compare the games of the two? Thanks..
  6. Weekeend Tourney; Kwamain Mitchell, PG, Wisc. Playground – He’s sort of heated himself up this spring. He had 15 in one game and 5 the next (which was a blowout). Realistically, he’s an impressive mid-level prospect who loves contact in the paint. Tough minded guard. Kwamain Mitchell indicated that St. Louis, Minnesota and Utah were chasing him the hardest. …
  7. From Dave Telep's site on games in Ind. this weekend. Billikens Push On Thompson Brett Thompson said St. Louis with Rick Majerus and Porter Moser are pushing very hard. Indiana, Notre Dame, Purdue and Iowa round out his favorite five.
  8. ST. LOUIS -- Porter Moser, who was fired as head coach at Illinois State on March 5, will be named this week as one of Rick Majerus’ assistants at Saint Louis University, the Pantagraph has learned. Majerus is back in coaching after a three-year break for health reasons, taking over a St. Louis team that hasn’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2000. “I saw this as an opportunity,†Majerus said. “I’m looking forward to it. I don’t think I forgot how to do it.†The Billikens introduced the 59-year-old Majerus at a news conference Monday, three days after he agreed to a six-year contract. Majerus, who has been an analyst with ESPN the last three years, comes to Saint Louis with a career record of 422-147 with 15 postseason appearances. Less than two weeks ago, the 38-year-old Moser had been considered a candidate for the top job at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. An announcement of Moser’s hiring is expected Tuesday or Wednesday. Majerus replaces Brad Soderberg, who won 20 games in the last of his five seasons but failed to generate even an NIT bid his last three years. Soderberg, fired April 17, was 80-74 overall. Majerus coached Utah to the NCAA final in 1998, losing to Kentucky. He stepped down in January 2004 due to health reasons. He accepted the coaching job at Southern California in December 2004, only to change his mind three days later. Fans and students attending Monday’s news conference cheered wildly when Majerus entered the room. “Today a new chapter in Billiken basketball begins with the hiring of one of the most successful coaches of all time,†Saint Louis president Lawrence Biondi said. Majerus led Utah to 10 NCAA appearances in 15 seasons. He also has coached at Ball State and Marquette, and with the Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant. Last year, he turned down an offer to become an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets. That decision, in part, was made because he wanted to be closer to his mother in Milwaukee. Majerus, who has lived in Milwaukee since joining ESPN, has said his health is no longer an issue. The Billikens have four returning starters, losing only senior center Ian Vouyoukas. Forward Tommie Liddell, who will be a junior, led the team with a 15.4-point average. Saint Louis finished in the middle of the pack in the Atlantic 10 Conference last season. When Soderberg was fired, the school said the move was tied to the school’s new $80.5 million arena under construction, which is about $7.5 million short of its fundraising goal.
  9. I did the same thing. Two seats, section 303..
  10. This is a post from the Mizzou board from a poster that is usually reliable; Heard from a very reliable source within the SLU BBALL Family that Majerus is flying into STL tonight to finalize the agreement to coach SLU. The final sticking points seem to be size of staff (more tutors and more strength coaches, a little refreshing, I guess). Also, Levick will be gone in 30 days. Press Conference 1pm Wednesday...
  11. Jeff Johnson OrangeandBlueNews.com Staff Talk about it in The Orange Crush' Em board 6-foot-7 St. Louis Vashon power forward Leon Powell is averaging 20 points, ten rebounds for his 20-6 team. Vashon is in the middle of their playoff run but the 2007 prospect took some time off to talk about his senior season and recruitment in this update. Leon Powell "The last time I talked to you, we had lost three in a row I think. Now we have won seven in a row and are in the sectionals against Parkway South on Wednesday." Powell scored 17 points, grabbed fifteen rebounds to lead Vashon to a 55-47 district title over Beaumont last week. "Our team is playing together much better now. Vashon has a great basketball tradition and we want to win that state championship this year." Powell pointed out that all six Vashon losses were to non-Missouri prep teams. As far as recruiting? "Bradley and Saint Louis are right there for me. I plan to visit them and Missouri State. My grades are much better now so I have a chance at qualifying. Bradley, Missouri State and Saint Louis all have told they will have a scholarship for me if I qualify." If Powell falls short he has a backup plan. "Right now I would go to a prep school if possible next year. I was talking to some coaches about junior college but you have to stay a couple of years there and lose college eligibility. If I go to a prep school, I can be out in a year and still have four years of eligibility. But we will see what happens with that." And Powell's interest in Illinois? "Illinois and Missouri are two I really like. If I would go to a prep school, those two schools would be at the top of my list when I was ready to pick a college. Coach Weber is a great coach, I like to play defense and rebound, those are two things I do real well and at Illinois, I could play early because of that."
  12. Hoops Recruiting: OU in the mix for top juco By James Hale Posted Jan 26, 2007 Rodney Alexander talks about his game, top five and interest in Oklahoma. Rodney Alexander, F, 6’7, REDLANDS JUNIOR COLLEGE, OKLAHOMA: JH: Where are you originally from? RA: “I am from Benton Harbor, Mich. I went to Benton Harbor High School.†JH: What was your average your senior year? RA: “I averaged 14 points per game.†JH: What did you average last year at Redlands? RA: “I averaged 10 a game.†JH: What are you averaging this year? RA: “I am averaging 15 ppg.†(15.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.9 steals through their first 10 games. He was shooting 59 percent from the field, 37.7 from 3 point range (9-24) and 73 percent from the free throw line. NBADraft.net ranks him as the No. 1 Juco small forward in the country.) JH: How did you wind up at Redlands? RA: “I went because of Coach (Steve) Eck, and because they always have a winning record. I have read a lot about Redlands.†JH: Tell us about your game? RA: “I think I am a very versatile player and can do a lot of things on the floor. I couldn’t shoot in high school, so I came and I learned how to shoot here in junior college. Last year, I worked on my game and worked on my shot a lot. Now I have a type of game where I can do different things. I can face up with the guy guarding me and shoot it or I can post him up. I can also step out and shoot the 3, so whoever is guarding me has to stay with me all the time or I can take advantage of him.†JH: You are small forward so do you work inside-out and post up a lot? RA: “Yeah, I post up quite a bit. But it really depends on who is trying to hold me.†JH: How much do you try to shoot the 3? RA: “I shoot it when I have the chance.†JH: Are you more of an inside or outside player? RA: “I really think that I am both. My post offense is my bread and butter. But I have improved my shooting facing the basket and now I can do both equally well.†JH: How much do you weigh? RA: “I weigh 227.†JH: You recently attended an OU game unofficially. What other schools are you considering at this time. RA: “I have considering Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, St. Louis and UNLV. I have been offered by those schools as well.†JH: Who offered you out of high school? RA: “Ball State and the University of Detroit.†JH: How many schools have you visited unofficially so far? RA: “I have been to two. I have been to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.†JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma right now? RA: “They need some more height. They have some good players, but they need some more height.†JH: So do you think you could fit in at Oklahoma with your size? RA: “Yes, I could.†JH: Do you have a legitimate interest in OU? RA: “I like them and I like the coach. Coach Capel is real cool and the assistant coach (Mark Cline) is real cool too.†JH: Do you have a favorite right now? RA: “No, I am pretty wide open right now.†JH: Have you taken any official visits so far? RA: “I have taken one to St. Louis and Butler.†JH: When do you plan on taking more official visits? RA: “I will take the rest after the season. I am not sure where I am going yet. I think I am going to Oklahoma, but I am not sure yet.†JH: What are the main factors that you are looking for in a school? RA: “I want to be able to help the team. I also want to see if I can play at the school right away, and I have to like the coach. I have to go to a school where I can play for the coach. I have to make sure that I am a good match for the team. I want the coach to have seen me play and I want to get to know the coaches well and the team. I want to make sure that I can fit in with the team and that I can play right away.â€
  13. Michigan Eyeing Illinois C Bret Thompson By Andre Barthwell GoBlueWolverine.com Posted Dec 18, 2006 The Wolverines have identified yet another 2008 target from the state of Illinois. This time it's 6-11 big man Bret Thompson. GoBlueWolverine had the chance to speak with the young man about where his recruitment stands at this point, his favorite, and more. Michigan has begun to show you interest. How is that going? “Well it is early right now. I have had a chance to talk with assistant coach Mike Jackson and he came down to a game. Coach Jackson seems to be a nice gentleman. When we text each other he wants to know how my family is doing.†What would it take for you to become more interested in Michigan? “I need to be offered a scholarship. That would tell me that they believe in me and would know that I am an asset to them.†What other schools are recruiting you? “Purdue, Notre Dame, LSU, MSU, Southern Illinois, St. Louis Northwestern, and Bradley. St. Louis, LSU and Southern Illinois have offered scholarships.†Most of these teams are in the Midwest. How does LSU fit in? “I have family down there that I am close to in Baton Rouge so that is why I am interested in them.†Is distance a factor in you decision? “Yes it is. I am very close with my mom so I would like to be close where she could see me play.†Does it matter if you go to one of the bigger programs? “No, I am looking for a program that suits me and my needs. I don’t want to go to a big program if I am not going to be appreciated.†What type of program are you looking for? “Academics are very important. I would like to go to a school that has a good medical program and a good computer science program. Athletically I would like a coach that works with big guys and a team I can play in the post and on the perimeter with. I would prefer a team that utilizes their big men, not the run and gun… but something like the motion offense. I want the type of team that has a good family atmosphere and team chemistry.†Is there a player whose game you would compare yours to? “Dirk Nowitski. I can dish, shoot the three, drive and play on the perimeter. My stats for this year are 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks per game.†Do you have a leader at this time? “Yes. I would say St. Louis and Coach Brad Soderberg right now. I am impressed with the way he has recruited me. The way he is driven to come and recruit me. He has been very straightforward and honest with my recruitment. That is how I want to be recruited.†-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go Blue Wolverine also had the chance to see what Bret’s mom Cheryl had to say about recruiting. How has recruiting been going for your son? “It has been quite interesting… the caliber of schools that are recruiting my son. My heart feels very good for him he has been a gifted player since he was young. He has worked his butt off to get here and I am pleased with that.†What type of college are you looking at for your son to attend? “A school that will take care of him. I want him to go somewhere that the campus life is nice. I want a coach that will look after him. Someone where if he gets in trouble academically, they will be there to help him. I want to know how much do they look after there players. I am looking for a coach that is familiar with big guys. Is it the caliber of school with good academics that will help him get his degree? I just want what is the best for my son.â€
  14. 2008 three-star prospect Jared Swopshire, formerly of Ft. Zumwalt High School in O'Fallon, Mo., is growing into his game down at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. And schools are beginning to take notice of the 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing player. Bob Huggins of Kansas State and Matt Daugherty of SMU have already made the trip down to IMG during this evaluation period, and other coaches are expected in soon according to IMG Player Development Specialists Jared Redell and Justin Sherlock. "Coach Huggins and Coach Daugherty were very impressed with Jared," said Coach Sherlock. "Marquette is very interested and will be down soon. Also West Virginia, Purdue and Michigan are expected down here. "Jared really put on a show for the two coaches. He is stroking threes, distributing in traffic. He's an inside/outside threat and can handle under pressure. There really isn't a lot he can't do." Swopshire played primarily with the St. Louis Eagles 16-under squad this summer. Already known to schools in the Midwest, he will soon be a national name. Cincinnati, St. Louis, Dayton, Northern Illinois, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State have all offered Swopshire, but his top school list reads more like a who's who of high-major programs. "I like Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Connecticut, Florida and Florida State," said Swopshire. "Right now, though, I'm just hearing from Connecticut and Florida State." Now that Swopshire is in South Florida, he will suit up with the Florida Rams travel team next summer.
