  1. Carr is also entering the NBA, draft.
  2. I will take issue with this. Sorry Zack this takes some reading: You can't have 5 guys who can't bring the ball up the floor, or 5 guys who are short and can't defend the rim. Identifying positions and players to those positions, helps in identifying team needs. For example, every team needs a player who can bring the ball up the floor under heavy, on ball pressure. That's a 1 or point guard. Every team has a second best ball handler who can bring the ball up the floor under moderate pressure and assist against full court pressure. That's a 2 guard or shooting guard. 3 guard or small forward is generally an offensive player who does not handle the ball under pressure. The 4 or power forward, is generally the second tallest player on the floor who can hold his ground near the basket, rebound and protect the rim. The 5 is generally the tallest player who protects the post on defense. There are over lapping skills, like 4s compared to 5s. Schertz 5 out offense reduces the significance of height in the half-court, because players can all hit 3s and pull defenders away from the basket. Though on defense, you are still looking at a conventional man to man or zone. Someone has to stop the apposing 6'9" and 6'11" post players. Numbering the positions makes it easier to analyze and talk about. If it were truly positionless, just take your 5 best players and put them on the floor without regard to their positions.
  3. Kent gone, might make the SLU opportunity look better to Turnbull.
  4. GIBSON JIMMMMERSON will thrive in this system!
  5. So if Avila plays 30 min and the 4 plays 30 min, there are 20 forward min available. In one interview about his Canadian big man recruit, he talked about playing 2 centers at the same time. While the height isn't as big a deal in the 5 out offense, it still counts when playing defense. A 5 out offense with a twin towers defense would really frustrate teams that want to go inside in their half court offense. It breaks convention and kind of blows your mind.
  6. Indiana State didn't really have a center to back up Avila. If he would have been injured, they would not have been the same team. Kent was the 4. IF, we get Avila and Kent, there needs to be at least one more big who can play and ideally 2. The players that have committed to Indiana State are forwards. The kid from Canada has size and athleticism. It will be interesting to see if any of them come to SLU.
  7. The Good. We have covered The Bad and The Ugly. What are Ford's greatest accomplishments at SLU? Pobably signing Jordan Goodwin. He had a great career and will be a SLU hero for a very long time. Ford brought the practice of non stop recruiting, which is more important now than ever. Ford brought numerous St Louis area players to SLU. In addition to Goodwin. Thatch, TJ, Yuri, and Perkins. There are more players of note. I'll mention one more in Gibson Jimerson, and if he comes back for one last year, will set records that might last forever.
  8. Sorry not sure how that got posted now. Just meant to post. Yell friends and family to buy season tickets now. It's like a hot stock tip.
  9. Now is the time to tell friends and family to buy season tickets!
  10. In this hypothetical, the only way Shertz can run his 5 out offense, is with Tj at the 5. Because our current bigs don't shoot 3s. So we would play a very small 5 out line up. So maybe Tj, Thames, Gibby, Curcic and Medley. Hughes as the 6th man. I think we had enough outside shooting gaurds for the 5 out but woefully short of the key outside shooting and passing 5.
  11. I dont think they know anything directly or indirectly from Schertz. But they can see the characteristics of the players used in his 5 out style of play. They are also probably unsettled by the delays.
  12. I'll disagree with you. Something as big as changing schools and NIL money, a player is most likely going to tell a friend, girl friend and or a parent. 5 players, no way that stays sealed.
  13. Since Schertz has been tight lipped about his move to SLU, it is safe to assume he has had NO conversations about it with his players. One or more players may have expressed interest to him, based on the rumored move, but that would be the most that would have transpired. Schertz knows who he would like to have and what it will likely cost. SLU no doubt agreed to an NIL commitment that he can win with. I'm not sure how much if any transfer dialog with a player prior to their entering portal is acceptable? Alsi, a discussion like that with a player would quickly go viral. I think Schertz is being careful and will move quickly, once things are public.
