slufanskip
I put 12-15, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him average more. We know RM likes him. I also see Paul as an over acheiver, that guy who just seems to find a way to keep himself in the mix. Would anyone like to bet that Paul spent a ton of time this summer working on his 3 point shot? I would have put 18+ but Paul has been slowed by his herniated disk so I don't know how ready he is going to be. With that said, he already knows the offense which is something the freshman don't know.

I just think that experience is going to be a huge factor on this year's team. I do expect Paul's minutes to be a little higher than usual at the beginning, falling throughout the year to "specialty minutes" as the new guys get the system down. But who knows, I think with an improved outside shot, he could definitely be a weapon, as he's shown time and time again that he's fearless going to the rack. Just needs to play smart the whole time. 3star_recruit
I put 12-15, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him average more. Assuming Lisch and Liddell average 55 of their 70 minutes a game at the 2/3, that leaves 25 minutes for our other guards. You guys expect Cotto, John and Cassity to average only 10-12 minutes combined?
Clock_Tower
I recognize that I could be dead wrong, but I'm going with 7-12 minutes. I know RM likes him; however, RM now likes all the guys on this team. PE will definitely have a roll on this team, will play more earlier in the season but unless he really steps up his game from last year, I see (and hope) him being a victim of the youth movement. RC gets 18, PE gets 12. FJ and KC get early mop up minutes. It doesn't mean, I don't think they are or will be good. There just isn't enough minutes to go around, KL and TL will get theirs. I don't think KC or FJ will take PE's.

But RM has to get somebody groomed to play the 3 next year after Tommie leaves -- I think Cassity gets minutes by default.

Having only seen him play once and having come away far more impressed with FJ than KC, I'm not sure I agree. Having said that, we need to worry about next year, next year. Let's play this year to win. Even if FJ and KC play very little, KM and RC will have experience, along with 2 possibly 3 bigs returning with experience. 3star_recruit
The prospect of going 6'0 and 6'1 for our backup 2 and 3 makes me very uncomfortable.
billiken_roy
skip not sure where you saw cassity play (i am assuming one of the b.s. summer all star games which is nothing more than a park pickup game and isnt college basketball by a longshot), but i have seen him a number of times in his high school's drive to second place in the state tourney. he was pretty much the whole team yet was able to really make his very average teamates into the second best team in the state tourney. personally, i think cassity has big time potential especially considering his coach is rickma. i think he seems to be the perfect rickma player. i like his size. i loved his floor leadership and his overall court game. i will be shocked if cassity doesnt turn out in a big way down the road. that all said, he isnt a point. and the wing minutes are going to be few and far between this year as any success this team will garner is all on lisch and liddell. they have to be in the game as much as possible. He has a chance to get a lot of minutes if he is healthy early in the season as the new kids learn the offense. If he is hurting he won't get as many of those minutes. If that is the case, the kids will get those minutes and early chances to get Rickma's attention and faith. If the injury leaves him unable to play at all early, he will have to work his way back into the rotation and back into game shape.

If Cotto and KM can come in and play reasonably well, I would like to see Paul get 7-12. He could be a high energy guy to get under the skin of the opponents and knock down some outside shots - I'd like to see that area of his game improve. IMO, if Eckerle is playing less it's probably a positive for SLU. That would mean that the new guys are doing well and the talent is deeper. A guy like Eckerle will always find some minutes for a coach like RM...tough, hard-working, gym rat types. SLU will win a lot more games with a guy like Eckerle as your 8th or 9th man as opposed to 6th or 7th. BTW, this is no way a knock at PE. I like the effort he brings. I hope he plays 10 or less. I hope the new guys are that good. If he keeps his ducks in a row, he's not going to be hurting any after college w/ the med school thing. I think he could still be highly effective in minimal minutes, and we'll see how serious the injury actually was, but I've got to think that at least at first, our 4 returning players are going to get a lot of minutes. We were talking about playing time this year. I agree, it's hard to judge a player via all star games, but i saw nothing that would make think he would garner many if any minutes THIS year. He may very well turn out to be a very good player down the road, and I'd bet that's what RM is banking on.

Who are the two higher rated shooting guard/small forwards coming in alongside Cassity? Ian didn't even get into eleven games that year. And we all know that it's common for bigs to develop slowly. Surely you're not equating the ability gap between Frericks as a junior and Ian as a freshman to Eckerle as a sophomore and Cassity as a freshman?
