  1. actually got that off the ohio state message board through a yahoo search. believe it or not i am doing a term paper for school on ethics in recruiting collegiate athletes. it just so happens that mizzou popped up with a bunch of different stories including this post that was on the ohio state board. i've never actually gone to the board intentionally.
  2. not surprised you would say that b-law. not surprised either that you wouldn't give your reason for believing neither of the players would want to leave to come here. let me guess they're both headed to marquette. i'd be surprised if martin is the next head coach. he just seems too young and inexperienced at this point.
  3. at least your on the right website. oh wait. you're not. go back to the tigerboard. you're the one with the obsession - you'd never catch me scrolling on other teams boards.
  4. sorry, i thought i pasted the source last night when i found it. it was on an ohio state message board similar to this one, so attach as much credibility to the story as you'd like. i thought it was interesting because i never knew AJ was considering OSU - i thought he and paulding were going to mizzou all along and that the flight really didn't have any influence on their decisions, hence no punishment. apparently, others don't see it that way.
  5. I found an interesting perspective on how much a little bit of cheating may affect multiple programs. Then there was the case of Ricky Paulding and Arthur Johnson in 1999-2000. Paulding, a budding star with incredible athleticism, had pretty much chosen Ohio State. Paulding said, "I was really definite (Ohio State) was my top choice. But I still had to take all of my visits and sit down and make a decision, and when I did, I decided it was Missouri. I don't know about any deciding factor.'' Arthur Johnson was still thinking though and the two wanted and to go to the same school. It was then that the Missouri Tigers illegally flew the two prospects and their mothers out to visit Columbia. The mothers were impressed (and said as much) because basically no other school had done that for them… Snyder - who ran the Duke recruiting operation for years - claimed that it was all a big surprise to him that such a thing was illegal. Pardon the skepticism, but I believe that like I believe that all the old USSR leaders used to suddenly get "sick" and "need medical treatment" during political coups. So, the dynamic duo ended up at Missouri instead of Ohio State, the NCAA slapped Missouri on the wrist, and OSU suffered. Who knows what might have been had the NCAA done what they really should have and declared them ineligible for the Tigers because their actions clearly resulted in an unfair advantage for the school. Instead, Ohio State’s season ended in the NCAA tournament for the second time in less than a decade to a team who had used illegal tactics to gain an advantage (the other being the Michigan’s well paid Fab Five).
  6. my post isn't really ridiculous - if you took the time to read it you would realize that i was asking why he isn't a billiken - i was wondering if anyone knew his status in high school. i was surrendering the fact that i didn't know anything about him. in other words, i wasn't claiming to know all. you should consider doing the same on occasion instead of defending former coaches and friends so much that you lose credibility. romar missed the boat on a lot of players (phillip gilbert and darren brooks included) and gave scholarships to players who never did anything at this school. in fact fish, sloan, brown, and varner will end up being the only 4 guys he brought in who actually finished here. pretty poor recruiting record no matter how you look at it in my mind.
  7. could someone explain to me why darren brooks isn't starting in our backcourt right now. heard on espn that he was a 3-sport stud in high school who could have played pro baseball. he wanted to go to school close to home and play basketball. SIU was "the closest option." good call romar - edwin, pulley, and floyd mclain were much better choices. if you didn't watch the SIU-C game yesterday, this guy is a stud. a backcourt with him fish and reggie would have been pretty sweet.
  8. while i agree that bob steiner's comparison was a choke i don't think its fair to write off jimmy mckinney just yet. if he was at slu he would be starting. the lineup would be fish, reggie, mckinney, sloan, frericks. that would be pretty sweet to see. he would not be eating darren clarke's minutes. he's playing out of position at mizzou, so you haven't seen him shine yet. but i think he could have been a very valuable asset to this billiken team.
  9. clarke did look bigger. i noticed that as well. responding to the post below, izik is not an enigma. he just doesn't play well at the 4 spot against bigger stronger guys. the games he's really looked good in have not been against the big bangers. soderberg knew this, and he didn't see much time. its that simple.
  10. as much as i appreciate jeff gordon's backing of slu and his bashing of mizzou, it annoys me that some of these writers display a lack of knowledge when they make criticisms. in his most recent piece, he makes a sarcastic remark along the lines of "what post-season tourney is belmont playing in." while i think its funny, he should check the facts before saying things like that. belmont actually had a decent rpi - top 100 - and is playing in the NIT. they weren't a bad team, although mizzou should have won by 25. it just takes away some credibility
  11. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/co...zzou's+downfall wow!! pretty tough article by jeff gordon. does anyone feel any sympathy for quinn? i think its tough to watch a guy explode the way he did in the KU game - you know he's gotta be in hell right now. and the offseason will only get worse. personally, i love watching mizzou struggle, but its tough to see the coaches get blamed for everything even when they may be at fault.
