White Pelican
Sorry I know SPUMAC means Mizzou, but what does it stand for exactly? I believe it is "Scandal Plagued University of Missouri At Columbia".

bauman
I believe it is "Scandal Plagued University of Missouri At Columbia". I use it to mean State Pen @U of MO At Columbia
ACE
My family is from Boone County, and I think there may be some truth to this. The rest of mid-Missouri makes Columbia look positively cosmopolitan, but it's still a very different atmosphere. Even after trending less white over the past couple decades, Columbia is still barely 10% black. The rest of the area is close to zero. As a kid I remember seeing a mall cop get in the face of one of the Haley twins for no reason, cussing him out and basically daring the kid to give him a reason to call the real cops in. I also remember all kinds of nasty racist and homophobic stuff yelled at Mizzou football games. Of course, there are probably way more opportunities for kids to get in trouble in St. Louis than in Columbia, but the culture is absolutely different. These young black athletes are brought in as hired guns in a place like Columbia that lives and breathes college sports. In a place like St. Louis young black kids can absolutely blend in. I ran into Jett and McCall at Schnuck's once their junior year, after they'd already played in one NCAA tournament. I was apparently the only one in the store who recognized them. Just night and day from the reaction the Mizzou stars get when they're out in public in Columbia. More than anything, they're branded as "special" way more at the big state schools in towns like that, and get all the negatives and positives associated with it. Yep, I've heard horror stories about Boone County too. When Mike Anderson was hired, I believe I recall reading that he was the first black coach hired at Mizzou in ANY sport. Shameful. MB73
You are so out of touch. Oh, so 'lil hssmith19 writes one weak unverified little tiny anecdotal story and it is "gospel". Nope. How does he know what happened in total, if / what had happened previously, maybe they had caused problems before, did he hear the whole mall conversation word for word? And things yelled at football games? Do blacks ever say racist things, or homophobic things? He was just being pathetic, countering my previous post. And the poster that cited what he called "foo foo" municipalities, all white well to do areas... then admitted he'd never been south of 44 or west of 270. WTF? I've been to most of those areas but also almost every municipality in SL, some many, many times. I am from The City. Yes, I've been to Jennings, Ferguson, St. Ann, U City, Overland, Dellwood, Pine Lawn, Riverview, Hazelwood, you name it, for extended periods of time (not just drive through, drunk some beer, etcetera). So do not be so quick to judge based on what 'lil hssmith19 cites. It is not always the white guys fault. It is time for change, time for some to be accountable for their brainless actions. The Missouri "student athletes" in question mostly get what they deserve.

MB73
I'm wondering if you've spent anytime in Columbia? Yes I have, extensively, going way back and also in recent years for business; it is a very nice, clean town, good people. You say they are hillbillies in your post. Wow. You called hssmith19's family hillbillies. Missouri U is a good school academically, except they have Neanderthal level classes for their mostly brainless football and basketball players. What is your point?

You are so out of touch with reality. You've been to some but how many have you lived in? You are generalizing with the "mostly brainless football and basketball players" statement. Mostly would mean that over fifty percent were brainless. However, I agree the ones who mess up deserve their punishment.

However, I agree the ones who mess up deserve their punishment. I am far more in touch with reality than you are, in all probability, not knowing everything about you, as you know virtually nothing about me. The other guy said he's never been south of 44, nor west of 270. So my comparison was valid, at least I have experienced life to some extent in most all the parts of the metro area, he missed 1/2 and still made a list, pulled it out of his ass. So I spoke with more real experience. I lived in the City, played high school ball against Vashon, Sumner, O'Fallon Tech, et al, moved to Kirkwood then to foo foo Chesterfield. Experience, knowledge counts. Not just second hand disinformation from people with an agenda. And, yes, I do think that the football and basketball players at Missouri are mostly brainless. I know some MU professors and grad students who have taught the courses specifically designed for them. Biology for Non Science Students. A joke. SO do not judge me on your preconceived notions and assumptions and stereotypes from your end of the spectrum. That is what leads to the increased orchestrated dividedness that we are seeing in SL and across the land. What differentiates SLU from Missouri is we have no joke jock courses; sure, we bring in some less than powerful minds to play hoops sometimes, and we have some easier curriculum but they are legitimate, and we do not have specific high school level courses to keep them in school like Missouri does, and as some BCS type schools also with good academics do. It is sickening. Ever talk to some people close to the SEC about their football players, and what goes on?

The Missouri "student athletes" in question mostly get what they deserve. The mall cop happened to be my uncle, so I'm pretty sure I got the full story. He laughed and bragged about it for years. He's an old, proud racist that says things that would make you proud (but at least doesn't live in Chesterfield). But we wouldn't want to hold any folks like that accountable for their own words and deeds, of course. It must have been the black kid's fault. We're not sure how, but...still...his fault. Major props for pulling out the "black people sometimes say nasty things too, so that means everything is equal" card. I can't wait for you to escalate to the "whites are the real victims of racism" card.

No real human could match this combination of pomposity and obliviousness to irony. The supporting "evidence" you cite for there being no racism in Boone County isn't even anecdotes. It's vague, third hand innuendo. Not that you have an agenda, of course...
