  1. No doubt, every UNM Lobo fan has a place in their heart for our greatest opposing coaches. Rick Majerus, "Bear" Haskins and Tark. Pitboss
  2. Great game Billikens. For those schools having to play the RPI and SOS game with the NCAA, your win helps make UNM 's holiday beat down by SLU look more and more like a "signature loss" as our UNLV and San Diego State league mates like to refer to their losses to Syracuse and UNC! Anyway....UNM's current grandiose RPI of 3 and SOS of 5 should reflect very well, thank you, on SLU come Selection Sunday. Keep up the great play. Lobo fans are quite thrilled to see your on-court success. Pitboss
  3. Man, you guys are tough! I guess I've been living out West with the Dominicans and Franciscans way to long. I'm losing my Jesuit-trained edge. I can only quote scripture in my meager defense, "Judge not, that ye not be judged" Matthew 7 Happy New Year Billikens! Kick some butt in Dayton! Pitboss
  4. B-I-L-L-I-K-E-N-S.....ugh! can't blame that one on the hangover! Pitboss
  5. RU ridiculing my dyslexia? LOL Besides, its New Year's Day and I'm not quite "fully functional" Pitboss
  6. Home court advantage is a real entity. Refs are human, they can be influenced. Athletes, in particular college ones are influenced. You can discourage your opponent and encourage your team. Guess what, It works! When the Lobos were down by 7 in the first half, it was the the crowd, all 15K, the 6th man, that stood and supported the team with it's noise, but directed noise at the right time and with a profound volume change. It decreases when the Lobos are on offense and it can be deafening if not down right painful when the Lobos need a stop. There at the end when Kendall Williams stole that pass and went for the dunk, you couldn't hear yourself think let alone try to speak. Hand signals work, but verbal warnings of impending doom don't. We, the fans, made a difference. You distract field goal shooters any way you can. The Lobos went to a game of driving to the basket. They forced the Refs to make numerous "judgement" calls in a hostile environment. Heck, maybe they should bend over and use their only good eye! Rick Majerus is an awesome coach. His teams are prepared and he makes excellent in game adjustments. As an opponent, you've got to disrupt that. The Lobo student section is right next to the opposing bench. They yell and make noise through out every time out. It makes it hard to communicate. Ricks an emotional guy, maybe you distract him or piss him off enough to get a T. Didn't happen yesterday, but it's happened in the past. What's great about a real home court advantage is that It's LEGAL. Your a fan! Support your team! To many fans want to over analyze and make themselves into sports writers , assistant coaches, Vegas bookmakers or ESPN analysts. Fan is short for FANATIC. When I go to the Pit for a game, I expect that I and my brethren will make a difference. We are the 6th man and the team feeds off of us. We belong to our team and the team belongs to us. We count and we matter. We are not "spectators". We expect to influence the game. SLU has an excellent team. They should not loose a single home game this year and few if any away games. As a fan, one has a "voice" in that. As a Billikin fan I would suggest you should quit whining about the refs and learn from yesterday. Fill the Fetz with fans and noise. The Billikins will respond. 7. I guess in your course they forgot to mention the PLAGUE, as in black death.....also....we've got a lot of anti-vaccination types out here so pertussis (whooping cough) is also endemic. I hope the team has all their shots. Pitboss
  8. You're right, SLU played very uptempo against UDub. It will be interesting to see what Rick does tomorrow. I really think he's going to want to shorten the game, limit the possessions and quiet the crowd, but only Rick knows for sure. I remember when he played a box and one against a very talented AZ team and just destroyed them in the tourney. I don't think he showed that defense all year until he sprang it on Lute Olsen. On the other hand, Steve Alford's no x's & o's slouch either. One of them will impose their will on the game. I do know one thing, tomorrow will be a lot of fun! Pitboss
  9. This is a completely different Lobo team then the one that was in the CA tourney. The two early losses were leveraged by the coaching staff into a very intense learning and maturing experience over the past 4 weeks. The difference should be quite noticeable tomorrow. Both of these teams play aggressive and intense defense as a reflection of their coaches. The Lobos want an increased tempo the Billikins want a much more controlled tempo......we'll see who imposes their will, probably neither for any extended period of time. Pitboss PS come visit New Mexico......we even DANCE here, it's legal!!!!
  10. '74-'78 Saw Bill Walton and UCLA destroy Memphis State at the Sports Arena. Still have an ABA basketball and a Spirits jersey. No SLU BB when I was there, but saw lots of Billikin soccer and ice hockey. Damn Cardinals waited till I left town to win a World Series! But I did see a Bob Forsch no hitter and Bob Gibson late in his career. Then there was Don Coryell.........he should be in the Hall of Fame. Pitboss
  11. Hello from NM from a SLUMS grad and UNM ex-faculty. This should be a very challenging game for both teams. I have very mixed feelings because of my dual allegiances to SLU and UNM, but since SLU came back from 24points down to beat UNM in that NIT game years ago, I guess it's UNM's turn. I'm sure you all understand what a great coach you have in Rick Majerus. He is one of UNM's 3 most respected opposing coaches, the other 2 are Jerry Tarkainian and "Bear" Haskins. The "fat man" ( truly a term of endearment from Lobo fans) is a dogged competitor and will do great things for SLU. A few years ago, before he left Utah, the UNM Athletic department and the Lobo Club brought him down to ABQ for a big dinner and roast to honor him. We're talking over 1000 people! Every Lobo fan respects him, that's for sure. We all know that UNM will have to bring their A game to have any chance of prevailing tomorrow. Rick knows the Pit and will have the Bilikins ready. This Lobo team is just starting to hit its stride after working in a new freshman point guard with great ability and international experience. Very good talent and an excellent coaching tandem in Alford and Neal. They make great game adjustments just like Rick does, so it should be fun watching the coaching chess match. Several years ago when Andrew Bogut was at Utah and Danny Granger was at UNM.....the Lobos put 6'9" Granger at point, much like Rhode Island did with Lamar Odom. Rick had no answer for Danny and he tried everything. Finally, in the last 10 minutes he just sat down and crossed his arms. And....you know Rick NEVER sits down, at least for very long! I hope the ambiance of the Pit comes across on the Broadcast. It is really a special college BB site. Pitboss PS Great WS win, to bad about Albert
