Will Local Fab Five Be Possible At SLU?

Recommended Posts

Is there any truth to the possibility of many of the current members of the St. Louis Eagles, including Tatum, going to SLU as a package deal? Wouldn't that be exciting?

That's essentially what happened when we got Hughes, Tatum, Baniak and Redden, right? Not sure who else was on the Eagles that year.

Core of Johnnie Parker, Hughes, Baniak, Brian Grawer, Tatum. I believe Mo Baker played there and John Redden.

Right now we have scholarships for a fab 2. Who is supposed to comprise this fab 5?

AJ is in Georgia, so he's not in the loop to know that SLU doesn't have enough open slots for a Fab 5 (in one class).

As THicks said I'm in Georgia and certainly not as tuned in to SLU. Only games that I get to see are the rare ESPN appearances. I wasn't aware of SLU's scholarship picture in 2016, but got this rumor from a poster on PowerMizzou, who's supposedly a local coach on the AAU scene. I have no idea whether he's credible or not, but he was saying that SLU was pitching the idea of 4 players from the Eagles joining the team in 2016. Even if there are only 2 spots, there's so much turnover in college basketball today that you could find two more slots if that's what it takes to land Tatum. As we know, college scholarships are renewed year to year. The names mentioned were Tatum, Cook, Sneed, and Barnes with Tilmon coming the following year. Wouldn't that be great if it came to fruition.

Without taking into the implausibility of the matter - that's a national title contender

What if we get Dennis Smith Jr and Harry Giles to also come to SLU to join the Eagles since Tatum is talking about a package deal. Then we could have a Fab 6! That would be awesome! Too bad we only have 2 scholarships to give otherwise this surely would have happened.

Haven't you heard the entire team is transferring out and we are recruiting a 13 man package deal?

I could see Crews and Cheaney going to these guys and pitching the idea. However, it's not gonna happen unless Tatum decides to come.

I am sure they are pitching the idea. Even if you don't get them all maybe you sell a couple on the idea of building something special together in their hometown.

I know that just thinking about getting a deal like this is enormously satisfying to many members. However, realistically, we have to think of such a deal as we think of winning the power ball or something similar. Very nice thing to think and daydream about, very unlikely it will actually happen. I would be very happy if we get JT, or any of the other kids we have mentioned by themselves, not in a package. Any one of these kids would be a welcome addition to our team.

I have a hunch about Sneed coming to SLU. If we could lock up at least one of the guys from that Eagles team then I would feel pretty confident about being able to snag another player or two.

This thread was started by a guy who has no idea how many scholarships we have because he is in Georgia. It has got to be very tough to keep track of SLU down there. Hopefully some day in the future it will be possible for Billiken fans throughout the country to be able to watch games or gather news about the team through the computer. Until then, at least for now, he still has PowerMizzou as a good source for SLU rumors.

I feel that landing Sneed could have a similar Pied Piper effect, whether Tatum comes or not. His energetic plays fires the other kids up and they know he'll be around for four years.

It's possible that when Mizzou bought those billboards in Atlanta/Georgia a couple years ago it included a ban on all SLU related content from being allowed in that state (unless we happen to be playing on ESPN). Kind of like the internet censorship you see in Iran and China. That would definitely explain why SLU information is only able to filter through via PowerMizzou.
