Recruit (1/7)

  1. Could really have used one of those missed first half layups
  2. Taj - I figured you were snowed in in Balto (only1 inch here in Philly). You'll be happy to know that at least one younger grad mistook me (72 yrs young) for you. Not sure how a team with LaSalle's record can be over-confident, but I think they saw UMass give SLU a problem on the road while the Explorers beat UMass at UMass.
  3. Be very careful. Football can backfire in many ways. Because of football, my other school (Temple) fled the A-10 to get into the Big East. Then that conference turned into the AAC and, because of football, all the programs found themselves with lots of games against such traditional rivals as SMU, Houston, Tulane, etc. It will only get worse when UConn & Cincinnati find a way to get to the ACC or Big 12. But the worst is - even though football did bring in some revenue from TV - this spread-out, mis-matched league has such a daunting travel schedule for all other sports that Temple just cut over a half dozen programs - Baseball, softball, both Crews, gymnastics, etc., to save money. They then had the gall to blame it on Title IX. They did this with a straight face while cutting two women's programs. Club football - OK Anything else - big problems. My answer is to fully professionalize D1 football. Its a football program "sponsored" by the Univ. of Missouri, Alabama, Michigan, etc. Players are employees, not students. They can go to the NFL if they want (and can) or they can have a 12 year career at their "school." Spread the money from the coaches (whose alaries will be cut by 2/3 probably) to the people playing. Players make money, if they want to go to classes in the spring semester, fine. D-2 remains for scholarships for real students. D-3 is for non-scholarship programs. Now please go handle N. C. AT & T!
  4. It was beyond old, it stank, but it hosted The Byrds in 1965 (66?). There should be a plaque out front. But since no 1/2 decent bar band would play there now, might as well put it to some new use
  5. If I am Butler's AD, I'd be calling the (Arch?)bishop of Indianapolis.
  6. Lets be careful. LaSalle is much better than prior years, plays solid D, is at home, and is coming off two close losses. Their Galloway is better than St. Joe's. But BC should handle their frosh center. Our advantage: we've been sitting in Philly, while LaS had to return from Richmond on Thur.
  7. I also got tickets thru Meg - and am hoping I will find them at Hagen Arena will-call. Getting a cab from that area would probably involve making a phone call - you would have to be lucky to just flag one down. Are SEPTA train stations not too far away, but this game will end too late to avoid an hour wait at a sketchy location. I could give a few folks a ride to 30th St. - but the pre-game reception here was cancelled, so how to meet? To rub it in to Hawks fans, I'll be wearing a SLU sweat and a Temple cap. Look for me. Need to control the Galloway's this week - both St. J and LaS have one (Ramon & Langston). IMO, each team's best player.
  8. Does Anyone know of a public place in Princeton NJ where tonite's game might be televised? I live not too far away in Philly. Sign Man, can you help me out??
