Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. I was able to make the MAC lunch this year. Ford handled the Gordon news by saying that he couldn't comment specifically or name any names but that, if you checked Twitter, you would see that it was a great day for SLU. Beyond that, not much new from his talk. Of the current players, he singled out Roby and (somewhat surprisingly) Gillman for their improvement and strong work at practice. He is a compelling speaker -- I can see why he is successful with recruits. It was great to see Larry Hughes at the lunch as well. Incidentally, I spoke to a couple people at the lunch who I suspect might be fellow MBMs but I did not have a chance to ask. I was the tall bald guy with glasses f you happened to speak with me. I was at Table 5. It was nice meeting others if you happen to be reading.
  2. RA showed up as it was ending. DR was with the group in the front.
  3. I wholeheartedly agree with at least a temporary cut in Yarbrough's playing time (and that's regardless of who's replacing him). As to Lancona's potential, I know he hasn't showed much this year, but he gave some pretty valuable minutes toward the end of last year. I also think he was by far the most highly rated of any player on the team coming out of HS other than AY. Seems like there is something there and I don't get why the freshman are allowed to play through mistakes but he's pinned to the bench.
  4. I'm also mystified by the situation with Lancona. I thought he and AY would be the best players on the team by far. It's really hard for me to believe there's not a place for him in the rotation. I have no idea if it's a coaching thing, an effort thing, a confidence thing, etc.
  5. It's amazing what a little HGH does for his crawling speed!! We also have to figure out the best (for lack of a better word) "lure" to use to get him to to the finish line. I have no doubt he's got the necessary speed, but the concentration's been the problem during practice!
  6. JMM and Pistol -- Long story, but because my kid is going to be in the Baby Race, I've managed to end up with two extra tickets. The tickets are in Section 110 and face value is $32.00. PM me if you're interested.
  7. I just heard from what I would consider a decently reliable source that the KM injury is legit (high ankle sprain). Did anyone who's in Columbus see him at the open practice yesterday? The tweets said everyone is healthy and that KM was working on this threes. Was he moving around much? I hope so ...
  8. I think the worst case scenario for SLU is a loss to LaSalle plus a team other than Temple winning the A-10. That, along with a BCS team or two making a run in the conference tournament, would be enough to make me feel uncomfortable on Sunday,
  9. I think we're in a much better position than Mo State was, but the whole thing still worries me. If we lose to DU, I think it would be very tempting for the committee to put a mid-level BCS team in over us. DU is not a bad team, but it will be seen as a bad loss, particularly if we lose in our first A-10 game.
  10. I agree with broy. Sometimes I wish Kyle would shoot more, but he still brings a heckuva lot to the table. The offense runs much better when he's on the floor, he's a much better defender than MM (although JJ did the best job on Dillard last night), and he's a reliable ballhandler. Rickma knows what he's doing. Sometimes, though, I wish the attributes of KC, MM, and JJ could be combined into two really good players. Then it wouldn't be always thinking "I wish MM was just a little bigger or a little better defender," or "I wish KC would shoot like MM," or "I wish JJ was a little more careful with the ball."
  11. I've eaten there a few times, most recently yesterday while watching my guy Tebow. I think the food is pretty good. Typical bar food, but definitely above average. There are also a ton of TVs and pretty good selection of brews on tap, so it's a great place to watch a game.
  12. Trust me, I was much more worried about the game than the band. And it looks like I completely misunderstood the post to which I replied in any event, so I'm back to only worrying about the game. Which was plenty worrisome.
  13. I'm watching without sound. Does this mean they're not doing March of the Kings (or whatever that Budweiser song is) at the under 4:00 minute timeout? One of the few traditions at basketball games that people seem to enjoy?
  14. 3rd in the A10 seems a bit optimistic at this point. (Yes, I realize it's an exhibition, etc., etc. But still.)
