I seriously hope we don't get to see you be a fool and JT will decide to stay home. If he does not, he will get a standing "O" without a doubt. He is being up front and honest about how he feels and will make the best decision for he and his family as he should. As a SLU fan, I support whatever he decides.

So we fans should not even make a player pay a small price for not picking SLU, but should reward them with a standing O?

What kind of fan are you?

Ithink we have a real shot at landing FBJT. That said, he will be dead to me if he picks a school besides SLU. He would be like that other dude playing at Chaminade.

Yea I agree with this. I have talked to Illinois fans and Mizzou fans and no matter what Jayson has said or could say, they would never be convinced he is/was seriously considering us and it's only a favor to SLU. Finishing in 2nd would not help.

I would be disappointed if he picks Duke but no way could I boo a teenage kid because I dislike and disagree with the decision he made on the 1 year of college.

Exactly. Unless he picks SLU, no common fan will think he's really considering it no matter he or his family says

For some reason I think if he were doing this as a favor to SLU, you would be able to tell through his quotes. I just think his quotes would be more SLU specific and positive on SLU. His quotes are more talking about him and how it would be big for the city and how great it would be for his family to be close and basically all the reasons we have hashed out on why it would make sense for him.

If he was talking to people saying "Yea I'm seriously considering them. Crews is a great coach who I know can get me to the next level, they have been building some great teams there recently and have some great facilities," then I would agree, it would be as a favor to SLU to keep talking them up. But saying it would be big for the city and his family would like it, does absolutely nothing for SLU.

To clarify: The reason we tweeted about it is because I know it's common thought among fans. Tatum is just doing this as a favor. This Duke person was convinced of it. So I tweeted about it and then added my own thoughts about how this isn't some "favor". All he's doing is wasting people's time.

I have no info on this situation. For Da Love seems to be the most knowledgeable so I'll defer to him.

+1

It would really suck/be odd to keep pumping the hometown hero angle to just be like, "buuuut nah, I'm still going to Duke". Then again he's a 17 year old kid, so saying what the local media wants to hear can be an easier solution to a lot of interviews

Why would Tatum ever play at Chaifetz if he goes elsewhere? I'm all for strengthening our schedule, but hosting Duke seems to have zero benefit to us and if it's so important for JT to play in St. Louis, he should just go to SLU.

Can someone with photoshop skills take the LeBron Sports Illustrated cover where it says "I'm Coming Home" and crop Tatum on that? "I'm Staying Home". Maybe even tweet it at him and add an Imos pizza.

Ha. Was discussing this on Twitter last night -- here's the press release when he does commit

This isn't something I'm worried about since he's coming to SLU, but if we have a chance to host Duke at the Chaifetz, we need to take it.

That's the hope, but it remains an IF. While not necessarily apples to apples, this did not happen with Hughes.

True. But this time we're still going to be good the year after the superstar leaves. Local recruits will have witnessed the local school make the tournament 5 times in 7 years. That's big time.

Agreed, but the game would be played at Scottrade not Chaifetz.

What is For Da Love's connection to Jayson?

I can't speak directly for Da Love, but I've never viewed him to have a direct connection to Jayson. He does appear to have a direct connection with the coaching staff. Put differently, if he is confident, the coaches are confident.

I'd follow ForDaLove into battle vs. White Walkers at this point

The only way we host Duke is FBJT goes to Duke (like Hansbrough game with UNC), we don't need that kind of game. Also, if that ever did come about, I only agree for the game to be played at the Chaifetz.

Jayson would be dead to me as well. Standing O? Heck no!!

At the same time, I would not boo. Personally, I think it was distasteful of Mizzou fans to boo Ryan Robertson every time he would touch the ball, and to me, it would make us (SLU fans) look bad as opposed to sending some type of message. Plus, out of respect for his father and godfather, I also would not boo.

Just to provide my two cents on the other side: Duke definitely seems optimistic about Tatum, but I don't think they've received any real indication that they're the favorite. From here, it seems like a coin toss between Duke and SLU. I think anyone taking a strong stance for Duke right now is basing it entirely on "we're Duke, and they're SLU."
