cheeseman
Limbaugh's ratings are down big time. Combine that with the continued reluctance of many national advertisers to buy add time on his show has and it has become hard for CBS to make money off Limbaugh's show. He has been getting the ax from many stations similar to KMOX across the country. Yes, that was my whole point.
MB73
This argument from the usual suspects always cracks me up. This town's conservative newspaper closed down shop long before the P-D... how do you explain? This is not nearly as simple as you state, though it is predictable that you would think something like this is very simple. The fact of the matter is that, like most entities (cities, states, countries) that succumb to this radical ideology, the SL Post has failed miserably. Bernie is just another casualty. Pistol
-I agree with those saying Bernie on the radio was horrible Hopefully 101's website becomes a viable place for him to deliver good articles and posts. My experience with him as a radio personality is limited but I'd hate to think that he's risking his career on something that he's not good at; I liked reading his stuff, though. For those lamenting the Post's overall quality, rest assured that it's still considerably better than its peer in Cincinnati; the Enquirer is horrible. The print edition - like many other Gannett properties - is a small tabloid that mostly pulls from USA Today. And the local stuff is garbage. Their editorial staff is a nightmare. The website has shockingly little actual content, and basically looks like 10 big pictures to click on. I still read STLToday more than the local rag; it may be cluttered and imperfect but it actually has content, which is a plus. Also, horrible news about Joe Williams. Didn't always agree with his opinions but he seemed like a really nice guy who genuinely loved what he did.

YOU were the one making it sound so simple with your first diagnosis of the decline of the P-D. YOU brought up political ideology as a factor. If YOU believe that is a big factor, then you have to reconcile the fact that the town's conservative paper went under long ago, while the P-D is still around. When this is pointed out to you, all of the sudden it's "not so simple"... To recap, it's simple when it fits your narrative, "not so simple" when it doesn't. Billiken Rich
Now Joe Holleman is the only reason to look at the PD. Wish he'd replace one of the Donnybrook panelists full time......
Billiken Rich
Yes, that was my whole point. And it may be correct but unless you are going for that coveted 75-100 demographic, Rush and the Birds are the only reason anyone listens to KMOX....... slufanskip
I like Bernie in print and on the air ... though like Bizzle, I tired of his complaining about internet loonies. He makes it sound as if the loud few are the majority. I've really been enjoying Kevin Wheeler during my drive in to work at 9am. Anyone know if he is leaving 101 or just being pushed back an hour? I still subscribe to the Post but mainly because I'm old and still read the newspaper while eating breakfast in the morning. I rarely read anything but sports, the comics and do the crossword and Sodoku

He has lost advertisers and lost listenership in all the markets. I guy like him will eventually flame out and that is what is happening. KMOX would not have been looking to replace him unless they thought it was a good business decision. As far as the Post goes - it has nothing to do with their editorial positions - no print newspaper is doing well anywhere - the nature of the beast. I do agree that the only reason I listen to KMOX is for the baseball.

Yes, a dead tree only printed paper, from 29 years ago... that's a valid, direct comparison. Nothing has changed. There are probably 29 reasons why you are incorrect, and you as usual do not address the stated issue.

The new schedule starts on August 31st. With Bernie on board, 101 will now have three extra hours if local programming a day and be less reliant on ESPN to fill out the schedule. I do like that they aren't cutting Wheeler. He's grown on me this past year or so he's been on the air.
