Noel Eastern is a player that would be a major get for this coaching staff. This is regardless of his ranking. Having seen him play in person a few times I can be confident in my assessment that he would be a matchup nightmare in just about every conference. Does not shy away from contact, uses his body, and has a nice outside stroke to go with it. Plays predominantly on the perimeter as a PG, but Evanston runs sets with him in the high and low post. I would love to land a player of his skill set. I have no problem going after him, but am also realistic that there will be huge competition and that we are most likely not on his short list.

It's certainly interesting timing for SLU to get involved with a four-star fringe top-50 kid from the Chicago area. Maybe there's a chance that the Big Ten and other high-level programs on him will back off due to injury risk, allowing him to slip down a tier? I don't know.

If a kid has serious interest from a BCS'er, it's been posted Majerus would assess his interest in SLU and if it wasn't there he moved on to find a gem in the rough. It worked well. We should be following his method rather than this shotgun approach.

I am curious about this offer mainly because of the above. Based on what I've seen from Crews, it's not like he seems to be offering a ton of kids that are being recruited by big programs. Usually if he does, it's a local kid and he has the kid come to campus and offers him there. I always thought the main reason for that was that if he can't even get the kid to come to campus for a visit, obviously the kid isn't interested in SLU for him to waste time. Curious to see if they get him to even visit.

I'm not sure exactly what the reasoning is, but there is obviously something behind why SLU is getting involved now. Similar to a recruit's recruitment blowing up, the flip side of that coin is someone who is hyped fairly early and then slips a bit. Eastern is certainly someone who had plenty of hype early, as he was a day one varsity starter (or pretty close to it) in a pretty competitive conference. He was easily his team's best player from the onset of his high school career. Perhaps there is a potential for slipping in this case, but I think there is a reason the staff is choosing to get involved at this time.

I'll be very surprised if Eastern regains his old form this year. He hasn't been able to play basketball in nearly six months after breaking two bones in his ankle. The big boys are just doing their due diligence by checking in on him right now. They have to know where he is physically so they can prioritize their recruiting boards.

People, I am willing to acknowledge that I know very little to nothing about recruiting, but the way it looks in the posts of this board anyone that gets an offer from SLU is not good enough for us, or is too good for us, of is injured and cannot be repaired. Come on guys, this board is looking like the Code of Federal Regulations which includes MANY contradictory regulations, as legislated by our law making leaders. We (both as a country and as members of this board) appear to be lost in red tape, fear and anguish. This appears to imitate the market which goes up and down with no real reason (other than the junk you hear from the talking heads). The sky is falling, the sky is falling, say some, fire Crews, fire Crews say others, incompetence, mayhem, idiocy, say even others. Come on, wake up and smell the coffee. Most of us are punting and let our fears carry us, some, like 3 star and pistol appear to know what they are talking about. Let the coaches do their work the way they see fit...

As far as Easman goes, if he broke two bones in his ankle, and assuming this means a tibia / fibula fracture, the chances of full recovery are not good. OK so he will not be a 4 star no more, fine with me. Can he play in a way that he can contribute to the team without destroying his ankle? This is what we should be asking about. I would say the chances are pretty good (primarily because our standards have fallen so far down) that he will indeed be able to contribute in a meaningful way to our team performance. Maybe he will be able to play at a solid 3 star level, maybe at a solid 2 star levels. Who cares, as long as he can be a positive contributor to the overall performance of the team? Should we look forever to get real unstoppable stars that we have minimal chances to get? I say no. This man may be a good addition to the team, and maybe no one else wants him, so why not take a chance with him?

Well the Michigan State reported offer came after the ankle injury. Now I'm not sure how commitable that offer is, but it's not as stale as his other reported offers.
