Taj79
This is taken off the A10 board but it makes for an interesting read: http://www.coxhub.com/articles/atlantic-10-by-the-numbers-percentage-returns-team-by-team On the positive side, we return 25% of our points, 37% of our rebounds and 18% of our assists. Negatively, the numbers are we lose 75% of our points, 63% of the rebounds, and 82% of our assists. And then there was this addition to the thread: Does experience trump talent? This is a question I have heard ESPN talk about after this NCAA tournament. I decided to look at how much 'experience' each team in the A10 had last season and will have next season. I calculated 'experience' by summing the minutes per game played by a player each year over the course of his career. So 'experience' in this case can be thought of as 'career minutes'. This does not adjust for the quality of minutes lost or returning. Code: Minutes Lost Experience Lost Experience Returning Experience Returned Last Season St. Louis 1 (142) 1 (505) 13 (95) 1 (400) VCU 9 (60) 10 (187) 7 (235) 9 (222) St. Joes 2 (107) 2 (422) 12 (146) 2 (369) GW 7 (77) 7 (221) 5 (246) 6 (267) Dayton 8 (66) 9 (189) 10 (211) 11 (200) UMass 5 (87) 3 (356) 9 (211) 3 (368) Richmond 10 (54) 8 (194) 3 (251) 8 (245) La Salle 3 (95) 4 (315) 4 (249) 4 (364) St. Bona 4 (90) 6 (241) 11 (166) 10 (207) URI 13 (35) 13 (70) 2 (256) 13 (126) Duquesne 11 (47) 11 (155) 8 (233) 12 (188) GM 6 (82) 5 (242) 6 (240) 5 (282) Fordham 12 (37) 12 (139) 1 (319) 7 (258) Avg. career minutes for NCAA teams = 304 3/4 teams with over 300 returning career minutes made it to the NCAA tournament. 3/7 teams between 200 and 300 returning career minutes made it. 0/2 teams with less than 200 returning career minutes made it. Will next year be Fordham's year????? I found the minutes-to-NCAA tourney relevance interesting (I think Fordham will be that one team in 4 that skews the numbers as well) but who knows. We lost th emost minutes. We lost the most experience. We have the least (13 teams w/o Davidson) returning. And we returned the most experience going into last year. There's a "sustainability" item in all this somewhere.
