Wondo for Landon makes no sense. I'm generally happy with jk, mostly due to his efforts to speed up play and attack more, but I see this as an ego move.

The only person to blame is Donovan. His ego was the reason he missed out on a lot of Klinsmann's early games and then when he did decide to start playing he was in terrible form. He thought he was bigger than the team and would make the squad no matter what. I'm glad Klinsmann didn't cave. Donovan has been a prick his entire career and it finally bit him in the ass.

Wanted Donovan on the team. Didn't think he should start but having his experience and talent level coming off the bench would've been nice.

Either way it'll be tough to get through group play. Still see this team struggling to score goals and there are questions along the back line. Don't even know who will be starting back there.

Anyone want to try to guess the starting 11 for the game against Ghana?

There is no room for the reason to be that Klinsmann took the 23 that deserved a spot for the WC? Look I get how not having a veteran WC player like Donovan can appear short-sighted, but Klinsmann and his staff have a plan and if Donovan couldn't prove his worth among the last thirty guys, then he doesn't go. There is no doubt that as those coaches talked about who they take, they fought the urge to not make a decision on Donovan simply because of the media frenzy or drama it could create, distracting the team. At the end of the day, Klinsmann will either regret his call or we will see someone step up that makes Klinsmann look like a genius. Donovan was fairly young back in 2002 when he made an impact; hopefully we get someone do the same thing 12 years later.

Happy for Brad. Wasn't sure if he'd make it given his specialist role but he'll bring experienced leadership to this group, albeit he has never played in the WC.

These two play two completely different positions in this system. If anyone got chosen over LD, it's billiken Brad Davis. Donovan hasn't scored a goal (club or intl) since October 2013.

FWIW, Klinsi also left legend Oliver Kahn off of Germany's roster in 06, and made the semis.

No he didn't...Lehmann was clearly the better keeper at that point, but Olli was still the back up and even started (and won) the 3rd place game against Portugal.

Although you're right, I'd rather have LD up front instead of wondo.

Except that JK said he considered LD a forward.

I'd have taken LD over Davis.

I didn't say no room. I said I see it as an ego move. IMO JK likes to let people know he's in charge and he has a huge ego. I've listened to him many, many times and it's just the way he comes across to me. I believe LD should be on the roster ... with the obvious caveat that I of course haven't been in training camp to have a clue how people played there. It's JK's team ... so we'll see.

Since I have absolutely no idea, how do you think this team will do?

It has nothing to do with Donovan, but not well. I don't see us advancing. Really tough group and our defense (especially in the center) could be a train wreck. I think we'll be a much more dangerous team in 2018. It's gonna take some luck and 3 well played games for us to advance.

If we advance, then we're playing really well and I'd like our chances against almost anyone in the knockout rounds.

Wasn't the hiring of this Klinsmann guy supposed to change things for American Soccer in International play? Is he putting the US on the right track?

I personally love Klinsmann. I also think he is operating under a long-term plan with 2018 as the game-changing year. Regarding the Donovan thing, I think it is simple. Landon's skills (particularly his speed and open field moves) have diminished to the point that he was not a key part of the strategy. While he was probably still among the US's top 20 field players, his presence in a lesser role created downside risk to Jurgen's new vision and philosophy.

The US has literally no chance to win the World Cup. We just don't have enough skill on the ball. It's possible to get out of group play but it will be tough as they'll have to at a minimum tie GE or Port and beat Ghana. Anything can happen in any given day, but to win it all the US would have upsets in about 5 or 6 straight games.

I like what JK is trying to do, but until we have the players with the ability to control and move the ball quickly we won't be consistent and we'll have turnovers that leave us vulnerable. And with a suspect defense all the way across that isn't a good thing. The US needs Howard to make a couple of big saves in the GE and/or Port games. I like the youth in the back as the athleticism could help.

I still don't like the Donovan decision and the more I read the more convinced I am it is personal, and there isn't any place for that. Even if it was a deal with Green, I don't like it. We should be putting our best team on the pitch and LD is part of our best team. He has the ability to play almost any attacking position and in the open field I'm not sure which other players foot I'd rather have the ball at on a counter attack. He should be there over Davis, Wondo, or Green. JK's kid is a little punk ass who needs to be ***** slapped. A little telling about the conversations around the Klinsmann household.

Thanks for the input. I don't know a whole lot about soccer except the US isn't great at it.

The US is good not great. They need to take that last step which is their skill on the ball and imo that has to start with the youth programs. They have identified shortcomings in the way they develop players and I believe they are trying to get better. It just won't be an overnight change. On any given day, they can play with and beat anyone, however, I just don't believe they can do it enough times in a row to win

If Donovan didn't get along with the coach as it seems is the case then it can be toxic to the team. I'm hoping for some addition by subtraction he's a prima donna and can't do the drills then he doesn't get to play. I'm looking forward to some youth stepping up. I trust Klinsmann and Bertie Vogts know more about FuBball then anyone else in the US. Both are legends and former German National Team Coaches that's like having Rick Pitino and Denny Crum on your staff at the same time.

I'm pumped Davis made the squad. Hopeful the US can surprise. If anything the story lines are interesting, Donovan Gone, JK and BV vs. Germany, Youth. Generating some heat for Soccer in the US.
