JMM28
I only post this because there has been talk of Chaifetz investing in an NBA team along with the possibility the Bucks could be relocating. Chet Coppock (probably a terrible source) recently tweeted that Dick Versace was in line to take over basketball ops for a lottery team. If you care to remember, it was reported that Versace was advising Chaifetz on the purchase of a team and hooked him up with Majerus for the SLU opening. Probably a very loose connection of unrelated dots, but hey it's the offseason.
thetorch
It hasn't come out who is buying the Bucks yet but it very well could be Dr. Chaifetz
milwaukeebill
the main player in the last couple weeks I've read about us junior bridgeman, a former buck. I also wouldnt be surprised to see Kareem in on this deal or the brewers owner antanassio

They'd need another major investor. Bucks are worth nearly 600 Mil.

The sale will also include a commitment from the purchasers for private money for a new arena if I had to guess so that'll be at least another hundred. brianstl
Where is the $600 million figure coming from? Forbes values them as the least valuable NBA team at $405 million. The facts that the arena is outdated and that it appears any new owner would have to agree to not move the franchise would further drive down the value of the team. http://www.forbes.com/nba-valuations/#page:3_sort:0_direction:asc_search:
JMM28
NBA teams are skyrocketing in value. They are on the verge of a new TV deal as well which will further boost values. The issue with keeping it in Milwaukee will always ride on the city paying for a new arena. The NBA isn't going to make a team stay somewhere in an old arena. They will let them move around if that is what needs to be done. When you have 1 of 30 of something and none of the others are for sale, it is a great time to drive value from your asset. That is what old man Kohl appears to be doing.

I could see Herb Kohl structuring a sales deal that makes it tough for this team to move.

I could see Herb Kohl structuring a sales deal that makes it tough for this team to move. The NBA would never force the Bucks to say in Milwaukee. Pretty sure the league would prefer them somewhere else. The hope is that Kohl can get an owner or group willing to keep them here and invest. The city isn't the problem. The team has been supported in the past, but they have been terrible/just mediocre enough to get the 8 seed and get destroyed in the first round for so long that there's no reason to go to a game. Bills By 40
To have the Bucks AND the Bills in the Lou would be fantastic. Go Dr. Chaifetz! St. Louis's basketball hero.

billslasttermdropout
For a clean break, I nominate the-less-than-likely-to-be-moved team be renamed the Bombers as a nod to our past. But we'll use brown for the primary color.

Bills By 40
St. Louis getting an NBA team would be terrible for SLU Think so? I mean, the majority of our fan base is alumni or other old folks who aren't entertained by the razzle-dazzle of the NBA... Then we could have the Bucks draft JJ and start him at SG next season. AlumniFan
I don't know about "terrible" but there are limited sports entertainment dollars in any market and St. Louis is not a huge market like NYC, Chicago, Dallas, LA, etc. An NBA a team would almost certainly reduce dollars spent on the Billikens as a sports entertainment option. That said, I don't think St. Louis could support an NBA team. I've been to NBA games in other cities and I just don't see a financially conservative city like St. Louis coming up with the dollars to pay for expensive NBA tickets especially when so many dollars are already taken by Cardinals, Blues and even Rams tickets. When I think of an NBA team, I think of it as an alternative to the St. Louis Rams. I think it'd be interesting, obviously a lot cheaper and look how it worked out when SLU dropped football and kept basketball... 55 years later they're a top ten team in the nation. These are guaranteed, proven results people!
hsmith19
If/when the Rams leave, I think an NBA team in St. Louis will be a viable possibility.
Bills By 40
Exactly. We have a large enough sports market for a large college and three professional sports. Will the Rams prevail or shall they be replaced by the hotshot NBA franchise? Anxious to see.
hsmith19
I have long hoped for a Rams move/new NBA team. I do think that would be a hit for the Billikens, but as we all know the local following among general sports fans has never been great. I hardly think it would be a deathknell. I think an NBA team in St. Louis would actually be a much bigger hit to Mizzou basketball than the Billikens in terms of coverage/attention in the area, which could turn into a net positive for SLU. AlumniFan
If/when the Rams leave, I think an NBA team in St. Louis will be a viable possibility. Agreed, but it will still be a stretch. Lot more games, very expensive seats. You need to sell twice as many basketball tickets than you do football tickets to sell out the arena for a season. JMM28
St Louis is too much of a front running sports town to sustain most sports franchises. The Cards seem to be the exception but they haven't had any extended losing streaks recently.

Agreed. Too any fair-weather Mizzou fans in the St. Louis area that are only looking for piss-poor athletic man's basketball, which perfectly describes that of the NBA. They would lose a huge portion of their fan base.

In terms of number of games/tickets, it's similar to the NHL, which St. Louis has proven it can support well. I don't know how well St. Louis would support an NBA team, but it's been an awful long time since we've had the chance, and my guess is that it would fare better than the Rams have.
