Listener of the Streets (6/7)

  1. I don't disagree, but his skills would have been highlighted as much in an offense that plays through the big men.
  2. Walsh is an elite shooter. If Schertz can get him to buy into his system, I could see him working out. A guy who can get his own shot, like Parker or, maybe Zyree, are not as necessary in Schertz’s offense. You’ll always take them, but they have to be willing to not play hero ball and play the system.
  3. We also need to remember that we just brought in a coach that has a certain system. In my mind, Yuri would not have fit in Schertz's offense. I'm not sure than anyone who's superskill is slashing to the rim fits Schertz's system if they cannot fill it up from three. Also, Schertz seems to be valuing size.
  4. I think the reference was to handling the press. Majerus proved that you don't need an elite ball handler to break the press. He beat it with proper positioning and passing. When Majerus's guys executed his system to break the press, the ball didn't hit the floor until it was comfortably in our possession in the other team's half court.
  5. James Cromwell, who played Logan Roy's crazy brother, is 6'7". Could be a rim protector if he has some hops.
  6. It's also $20,000 more than thousands of college basketball players made from 1900 through a few years ago
  7. I’ll be happy when he commits, but I’m not going to shed a tear if he doesn’t.
  8. If Avila doesn’t want to come here, we’ll get another stretch big who’s in better shape and plays better defense. We’ll be fine. I’m convinced that it was Schertz who made Avila not Avila who made Schertz. I think Robbie would continue to thrive here playing in the same system. If he goes somewhere else, he’ll have a rude awakening when he runs into the high-pressure associated with a big time program and will have different results in a different system.
  9. The single biggest factor in SLU being successful in the new landscape and being able to take advantage of the changes and possibly getting into a better conference as a result is........WINNING. Neither Chris May nor any other AD would be able to get SLU into a better situation if we continued down the road we have the past few years. On the flip side, if Schertz gets us to Dayton level or better of sustained success, it will be that, and not any sort of skills that Chris May has or doesn't have that will get us into that better situation. My point is that hiring the right coach and having the right facilities is what will get us to the next level much more so than any long term strategic plan to make that happen.
  10. Gotcha. Along those lines, I would assume our nutrition specialists, strength and conditioning coach, and facilities will help all of that more than what ISU was able to offer him last year.
  11. In the day and age of free agency, saying guys are only juniors or sophomores has much less meaning. If a kid comes here, we are only guaranteed to have him for one year.
  12. 8 were offensive rebounds. The entire Spurs starting lineup had only 8 offensive rebounds in the game. 7'4" Wembanyama had 1 offensive rebound in the game.
