Whitt sits out anyway right? I think this would be a prime place to sit out a year, work with the team, then start playing exciting basketball with the 2017 recruiting class.

A starting line up of Foreman, Whitt, Welmer, and 2 4 star 2017 guys would have the potential to do some damage in the A-10.

I'm gonna add Bishop to that starting 5.

Has anyone seen Welmer recently? Has he added a decent amount of muscle to his frame? That body going into last season was not going to make it through a season. He was weaker than Gillman.

I have not seen him since the last game, but it was amazing to me that he was still as skinny as when he got here (and after a year of prep school when you would have thought he might have "preped" by putting on some weight and muscle). Does SLU not have a strength coach? I'm sure we do, but what is he doing to earn his pay?

As of now, I think the best we can expect out of Welmer is to be a Rob Loe clone, which wouldn't be bad. I had just hoped that he would have developed his body so that he could have become a force on the boards.

Loe had 3 inches on Welmer

Why would Welmer be anything like Loe? Loe was a pick and pop post player. He eventually became a solid post defender.

Welmer is a wing. Think Izik Ohanon. Rebounding and guarding the post are not going to be what Welmer does well.

I'm confused about this transfer thing. Somebody help me out.

Whitt is transferring. He can transfer anywhere he wants, right? If he doesn't receive a release, he has to sit out a year. If he does receive a release, he does not have to sit out a hear. Correct?

There has been discussion that Whitt may not be considering Mizzou, because. . . . ., is it because he would have to sit out a year, because Arkansas would not give him a release to transfer inside the SEC?

I ask all this, because guys that are commenting seem to think he would have to sit a year. If he gets a release and comes here, it is my understanding that he would not. Help me out.

He has to sit out a year no matter what.

SEC has transfer rule that if you transfer in the conference, from one SEC school to another, you lose a year of eligibility. That would be why he may not consider Mizzou I believe.

Unless he is going to be a senior athletically that has graduated academically and his current school cannot provide the major he wants to go after in his pursuit of a masters degree next year he would have to sit out assuming the school he is transferring from grants his release.

You are misunderstanding the transfer process.

A release gets the player out of his scholarship at the original school. Doesn't absolve the player of sitting out a year. The common practice is for players to be granted the release from their scholarship, maybe with a 2 year sitting out period if the transfer occurs within the conference. Some schools will restrict some other schools as well.

I don't know what happens if a school refuses to grant the release, but it's very rare.

He can chose to still go to mizzou, but would only be able to play his senior year

And, he would have to pay his own way at Mizzou next year. If you transfer within the SEC you lose a year of eligibility and can not be on scholarship the first year.

What's our best case scenario right now? And related to this, do we go for talent upgrades or filling positions of need?

I think Foreman and Whitt would definitely up our talent, which I also think should be the top priority, above positions, at this stage (Foreman is a 4, and Whitt is a scoring wing). But we also really need a 1 and a 5 more than anything else. It would be awesome if Ford gets one of each (pull Hines' scholarship and let someone else go/Moore de-commit) in addition to Whitt and Foreman. Too much optimism on my part?

The entire talent level needs to be upgraded, so at this point take the best talent regardless of position. This will be, at best, a .500 team next year. I'd take Whitt and Foreman, keeping open the option of pulling Hines and having another available scholarship for a last minute qualifier or decommit from somewhere else.

He stays or goes to a junior college or a non D1 school

We don't have the luxury of handing out scholies to fill needs, because we have needs at every position. If Ford can land Witt and Foreman, he's more successful in one month than Crews was in two years. Keeping my fingers crossed.

As for Wellmer, those who saw him in practice last year seem to think he's a game changer. Why? He didn't exactly tear it up his one year in prep school.

However, the school can release the kid with zero penalties. Are scholarships one year deals or not? I wish a kid would sue the NCAA over the inequity. Not a chance they lose. Personally I like the restrictions put on the kid, however some restrictions should be put on the school if they force a kid out or fail to renew. Let the school lose a scholly for a year.
