thoughts from a couch in (where ever Taj is)

After getting home from the most-fun game of the year I watched the TV recording of the game and in honor of Taj will give a few random thoughts:

Alie-Cox has got to be the ugliest dude ever to play at the Fetz;

Lancona is as good as gone-very little emotion on the bench as he considered that MY and probably RA have passed him by with a couple of new bigs coming in next year. To not even get off the bench in our biggest game of the year had to be depressing. I know some will say this was not his type of game, but he could have played some of the 21 minutes AG played or some of the 18 minutes JM "played." How did he spend his off-season, certainly not working on his shooting or rebounding. If you are 6'8" you need to be able to do one or the other. ;

I hope the announcers took cabs everywhere. If not, Guy would have had to fill in for them. During the broadcast, they described the Fetz as a few miles NORTH of downtown!;

AY needs to get himself under better control as an upperclassman AND he needs to take 200 free throws everyday in practice. ;

If you get a free white shirt at a "whiteout" game, PUT IT ON if you haven't already worn a white top to the game. ;

Nice "Shoe" family TV shot in the first half.;

And finally, tell the TV announcers that we don't need to hear 5 or 6 times that the Billikens don't know who is supposed to be throwing the ball in, especially when that player is standing on the endline, waiting to touch the ball until his team gets setup for the inbounds pass, AND we don't need to hear many, many times how VCU isn't playing with the energy they normally play with (stated as an excuse for the closeness of the score).

Where are you, Taj?

I think we all know the answer to that question..... :P

Yeah, I caught that too. Hilarious. That puts SLU in Ferguson? They also thought we had a two shot foul coming on the first long inbound pass.

On the inbounds passes, I think Roby did a much better job getting the ball in than Ash. Ash threw it away on two consecutive inbounds in the second half. From the stats, it looks like those were listed as Team TO's, but they should have been on Ash.

On the inbounds. The officials were very quick to start the 5 count as frequently his hand was moving before Roby or just as Roby touched the ball. Roby did a great job of taking his time and seeing the floor before he took actual possession but I think the refs thought he was delaying and he was of course.

The officials know we're trying to slow it down to set up our press-break. There was at least one time, though that our player tried to toss the ref the ball to set it up and the ref just stood there counting. That was a bit ridiculous

Handling pressure defenses has had at least one rite become routine and we did it again last night. That is either don't touch the ball right away or pass it after the made free throw back over to the ref. The count is supposed to start when you touch the ball over the end line or the ref passes you the ball. I did notice the ref one time almost try to avoid the pass from Roby and on the other he put the ball down on the floor and started the count. And I also noticed Roby seemed better prepped for the inbounds than Ash. All in all, HAVOC was no issue and diffused well.

Many times I've lamented playing four-on-five on offense. The missing fifth had names like Polk, Varner, Glaze and others including Manning. Now his assistance on inbounds relief is also questionable at best. His really epitomizes "boards for hands" at times.

Hilarious that your geography is equally bad if you think Ferguson is a few miles north of downtown.

Ferguson is 7 miles north of Clayton.

A few miles north of downtown would be the industrial near north waterfront, the Mississippi River, and/or Venice/Madison/Brooklyn, IL.
