Recruit (1/7)

  1. Dalessdandro's is better than both Pat's and Geno's.
  2. Bizziken is right on about the dearth of suitable establishments around LAS. Best bet is Manayunk for sure.
  3. Glad you enjoyed it. The crowd was better than I expected given the weather and power outages all across the area, so kudos to everyone who showed up. The Billikens are a great team, and the Hawks are average. I've said all season that our record is all smoke and mirrors. Hagan is a great hoops atmosphere. It's not there to coddle a fan with padded chair backs and the like. Student section is 1,100 strong and always solid. The entrance thing is definitely confusing for new people. Street side is for students, and campus side is for the regular people, as that's where the box office is. Definitely out of the ordinary in that sense. Actually, because of the weather here yesterday and widespread downed trees, many roads were closed and over half a million lost power. The arena was not filled to capacity. Hagan always provides a good atmosphere and games are always well attended. It wasn't a sellout, so that's not something SLU can hang their hat on. They can hang it on a convincing conference road win, though. As for the buying of property, SJU would need to dozens and dozens of homes from people in order to get space for an arena or anything else at this point. There's no commercial or public land left adjacent to campus, aside from a rundown elementary school, and the property is far too small to have anything like a basketball arena there. I like Chaifetz. I've never been, but it looks quite nice. Well done on the win, SLU and fans.
  4. Also, the head to head record speaks for Phil Martelli's immeasurable coaching incompetence. Soderberg was a better coach than Phil, and Majerus was several stratospheres higher. That's uncontested.
  5. For the record, I don't know one fan who thought it was a good idea for Chris Wilson to score at the end there. I'm not getting involved in the better players/better team discussion. Haven't on our board, and won't on here. Also, further, I'm all for making fun of Hagan, but do realize that land here costs worlds more than out there, and our campus is entirely locked in, especially where the arena is located. But, you know, if playing in Chaifetz makes you feel better with your partly-empty student section (despite free tickets, free food, and BALLOONS), then, you know, feel better. Billikens are great. Hawks are not. I said the Hawks would lose in the realm of 70-40. I wasn't as off as others were who predicted a Hawk win. I think SLU can make it FAR. Just keep winning.
  6. Idk where to post this and don't think a Hawk fan should be starting threads like a troll, but it's worth noting that the line is currently SLU (PK). http://www.vegasinsider.com/college-basketball/odds/las-vegas/line-movement/[email protected]/date/2-05-14/time/1900 Have to think it moves in the Billikens favor a little bit, but I'd put a whole lot on them regardless. Can't trust the Hawks in a big game, and definitely not in any game against SLU.
  7. The Hawks haven't beaten the Billikens since 2006, so I'd say SLU's success has lasted a bit longer than 2-3 years.
  8. Those seats at Hagan are by far the worst ones you can get. Incredibly uncomfortable and annoying, yes, but every other seat in the place is quite good. Does anyone know what the SLU travel plans are like?
  9. I'm not saying Hagan is a palace, but Gola sure isn't. Trust me, you'd feel a whole more than cheated if you paid $25 or $35/ticket/game. Do you live in the area or in town for the game? We Hawk fans are more than happy to offer suggestions over on our board.
  10. That line has been uttered many times since, too. Most people are tired of paying $35/game to watch uninspired, crappy basketball and get to the NIT, where they can then pay $35 to watch a home NIT clunker. I'd say this season is shaping up to be different, but I firmly believe it's all smoke and mirrors. We have a bunch of wins that don't mean much of anything, really. We beat up on Binghamton. Go Hawks. It's also seriously unsettling when fans are admonished for wanting more, that they should be grateful for an NIT appearance and a first-round home loss. It pisses people off and rightly so, as they fund 1 million+ dollars in coaches salaries and $30 million for arena, practice facility, and office upgrades. To expect more because of that isn't outlandish, I don't think. But winning cures all. If we manage to beat SLU on Wednesday (impossible) and VCU on Saturday (near impossible), people won't care. They just want to win and not continue to spin in the mud as literally everyone but Fordham and Duquesne passes us by.
  11. No bad seats except for a row or two at the top of the one baseline. Ticket prices have been $25/$35 since opening in 09. It is definitely a small place. Very much a snake pit. Part of its charm, I'd think. Hopefully it's as loud and raucous as it was Saturday against UMass. If anyone is visiting, I suggest Landmark for food and drink. It's right across the street from the arena. Nothing spectacular or wowing, but it's a good little chain bar. Do get there early, though. Otherwise you'll have trouble making your way to the bar, let alone a table. 7 games a loser, 7 years since a win. No season to think it'll change now.
  12. Hawk fan here. If you've ever taken a detour to the A10 boards, you've probably seen me around ripping apart Phil Martelli and the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Not here to do that now, though. About tickets: Last I heard, our game on Wednesday and the game Saturday against VCU have had limited availability since early December when I first inquired. I know VCU is officially sold out and isn't even SRO. I did go ahead and looked at the individual seat viewer and it looks like a whole lot of tickets are left for this game on Wednesday. If you're still looking for tickets, go here. While I want those seats filled with SJU fans, there's no such guarantee of that happening. I haven't tried to check out with any tickets, so I'm not sure if there will be any errors further along in the process, but according to that link, seats are still available. Hope that helps, and I hope you lose, however unlikely that is.
