Recruit (1/7)

  1. I think the hook is our conference is an automatic NCAA bid and UVM has contended for that trip nearly every year during the past 15 years. We have made 6 NCAAA trips with 2 first round wins and multiple NIT & some CBI invites. We aren't drawing elite players but very good student athletes who know they have a very good shot at seeing the NCAA tourney, even if we are a 15-16 seed and draw the best out there. But you want to beat the best right? I hope we keep going to SLU - I have heard our coach talk and he respects the Billikens program and they were treated well on both visits. The maple syrup is awesome too!
  2. Yes the Bonnies are right in the snow belt in western NY. Our problem is our facility is a gym. It is bleacher seating for 3300 people. Many good mid-majors don't want to travel to us. We have been getting the Ivy's ( Harvard & Yale ) to come north as of late and St Josephs also. The crowd is 1 row from the teams, we are right on top of the game and it is very loud when UVM is rolling ( think of the movie Hoosiers). Vermont is a tough out in their place. That and lack of a real gate revenue keeps many OOC programs away
  3. " Vermont had moxie, I'll give them that. O'Day did very well. And nobody seemed to be able to stay in front of Bell-Haynes. For those wanting JM in there for "defensive" presence and shotblocking, I didn't see Bell-Haynes worried about him being at the end of the scoring tunnel. Seemed almost no impediment at all. But those are all trifles when you win. I think this team beats us if healthy. Nice program going on up there. Weren't we recruitng the Spiedel kid going there next year too? And McRoberts brother there as well. Don't know what that means but name recognition is good enough. Hope we keep them on the schedule in coming years." We would love to keep SLU on our schedule. Just don't come up too late in the year - the team may want to bring their snowboards & hockey skates! These 2 teams are going in the right direction for sure and getting solid mid-majors to Burlington is tough for us but the Billikens are more than welcome. We do have a Speidl coming in next year and we should have our starting point guard back after a RS year. Good luck this year
  4. we have a incoming player next year who is attending this game @ SLU - Josh Spiedl from North Columbus HS in Indiana and also Everett Duncan from from Evansville Indiana - all we need is Gene Hackman to coach and we got " Hoosiers" in the making
  5. don't forget - our #1 recruit from Indiana PG Ernie Duncan hit the redshirt list last week. He was projected to be a solid starter for us
  6. That player was a local kid that went to Bryant so I think the article you saw was one geared more to his " homecoming". Yes the hockey team is ranked 9th in US right now
  7. ya can't leave off our Hockey team, which is like a feeder program for the NHL ! And Ben & Jerrys !!! PS - none of our players are from Vermont
  8. We, as Vermont fans have a message board that is conference based, not individual team based. If you like to see, here is the link:http://www.basketballforum.com/america-east-conference/
  9. Vermont fan here... here is my impression of UVM for you. As young as SLU, 6 freshman (true freshmen-none of them did a year of prep out of HS). Injured: We redshirted our prized PG recruit Ernie Duncan with back injury. We may be playing without leading scorer Hector Harold with ankle injury and also SF Kilpatrick with head\concussion injury. This team, like yours is expected to make mistakes. WE play tough defense but are weak rebounding. They are a capable of stellar play and also can throw the ball away with poor play. It comes down to this - if SLU gets our " good game" we win. Good luck Billikens
