"Major Announcement"

Recommended Posts

Pittsburgh is not an ideal location. No local fan base, no historical interest in A10 or college hoops in general and just out of the way enough for pretty much all the schools not to travel there. I've given a lot of credit to the new A10 regime but this is a maneuver the former conference leaders would have made.

Just when exactly is the Big East going to expand? All talk has dried up for months now.

  • A-10 Expected To Announce Sites For '17, '18 Men's Tournament

Sources said that the Atlantic 10 conference today will announce that it will hold its men's basketball tournament in Pittsburgh's Consol Energy Center in '17 and DC's Verizon Center in '18. The A-10 "had to find an alternative site" once Barclays Center "cut a deal with the ACC to host its men's tournament" in '17 and '18. The A-10 tourney will be at the Brooklyn venue in '15 and '16 and then again in '19-21 (ESPN.com, 9/3).

Let me understand this, they are putting it in the town of the A10 'weakest in attendance' member? I can think of 5 other places that are available that would be better.

Hope they have long curtains at the Consol Energy Center. The only good thing is its only 2 years.

One year in Pittsburgh, then one year at the Phone Booth. Two years total away from the Barclays. DC might be okay as far as attendance is concerned if Mason and GeeDubya are doing/drawing well. VCU WILL always travel. La Salle and Temple are 90 minutes up the road. Richmond also 90 minutes the other way. Davidson has a much shorter hike too than if goign toi NYC or Pittsburgh.

I still like Atlantic City but understand its hard to get there from just about anywhere outside of Philly. Those crowds packign the Fordham games atteh Barclays will likely be pissed. The Fordham Crew Club is a force as far as I can tell.

Really? Everything in the media has said the BE has tabled expansion talk, the conference is very happy with 10 teams, and Fox isn't pushing for an increased number of teams. What is SLU doing now to enter this inevitable discussion?

I like Pittsburgh as a place to visit. My daughter went to Carnegie Mellon and I always enjoyed my visits there. If you drive into the city at night, the view of downtown is spectacular, it just opens up as you come out of a tunnel in the mountains and there it: is a glistening jewel of a city between two rivers. Beautiful view. Pittsburgh has a museum dedicated to Andy Warhol which is very worthwhile to see. Also for those architecturally inclined, Falling Water, one of Frank LLoyd Wright's most incredibly beautiful houses, the one with the creek going though it, is about an hour east of Pittsburgh. Go visit it if you can, it is worth it. Keep in mind that the house if chock full of art treasures, the last owner was the curator of modern art at the met in NYC, including Diego Rivera's paintings. Incredible stuff in there! Pittsburgh is not a crumbling little town in the middle of nowhere it is a great city in its own right, and a place that is very different from many other cities. I always liked it a lot.

Pittsburgh is in PA not in Mexico. Yes, I drank the water and the ice, something I do not do in Mexico, and did not have any trouble from doing this (in Pittsburgh not in Mexico). As for bars, if that is your thing you should talk about them in your post, I did not visit them in Pittsburgh. The restaurants I have gone to in Pittsburgh range from decent to very good and they generally serve booze.
