Pretty sure last year was like this too at the beginning. More games were picked up closer to the start of the season. That would be my hope again this year at least.

This. The deal with fsmw is being worked on and many games will be picked up.

Going by KenPom, my numbers were accurate. I know that's the 2 teams possessions averaged, but my numbers are accurate and my point remains. Those games were our most successful pace last year.

First you said it was about possessions WE had. Now it is both teams? Again, if the case is that sensitive to definitions it really is not much of a case after all.

There is really no case either way if you understand anything about statistics. The most interesting thing is that we lost 4 games when we played at 71 possessions and had more possessions than the other team. This is not the usual way of losing basketball games. A case could easily made that SLU playing above 70 possessions meant their defense got worse (which is exactly what I saw) and their opponents "points per possession" went up.

A team can certainly play at a higher pace, still give up more PPP, but also be more effective because their own offensive PPP goes up more. That is not what happened to SLU last year--I do not think their PPP went down with higher pace but they clearly gave up more PPP when they increased their pace.

I honestly do not think I could necessarily make a conclusive case that a slower pace was better last year but I can easily rule out the case that a faster pace was better.

The last few Rhode Island road games have been broadcast in Rhode Island by Cox Cable, and those games have been picked up locally. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens again. Davidson might be the one conference road game that we don't get to see. Shockingly, the Duquesne game will be televised - that's pretty rare.

I'll just shut up and accept this. Last year we basically played with the same 5 guys all the time anyway (and they all graduated) so I probably shouldn't have even brought anything up from last year to compare to this upcoming season.

Regarding the schedule: 20-10 - not counting Rockhurst.

@JettFlight5: Sodes had seasons of 16, 19, 9, 16 and 20 meaning 80 wins over 5 seasons = 16 average per year. But he did set the low watermark for the last 20 years with that 9 spot our last year in CUSA. So I'd conclude that the "Sodes line" is nine. Majerus' low mark was 12 wins in the "situation" year. Spoon's was 11 in the year prior to Hughes. LoRo's had 15 wins his last year but I wouldn't include his three-year tenure because that was too short IMO. If you designate Rick as the measure of all measures, and his low mark was 12 wins, I'd think 11 is now our line. Of course, if you base "the worst year in 20 years of Billiken basketball" purely on its won/loss record merits, then eight would take the title hands down. In my association with SLU (since 1975-76), we have had seven seasons of single-digit wins. Brad posted the last; before that the previous one was the second five-win season posted by Rich Grawer in his 1991-92 swan song season.

-from the schedule release announcement.....Coinciding with the release of the schedule was the announcement of the televised games that are part of the A-10 package. SLU currently has 14 games slated for television, including six on CBS Sports Network, four on NBC Sports Network and one on ESPN2. The department of athletics is negotiating local TV deals with the goal of televising as many men's basketball games as possible. The complete TV schedule, which dictates tip times, will be released at a later date.

-a few thoughts or observations on the schedule, not necessarily the opponents

-do we know when the Memphis scrimmage is? Memphis opens their season on Nov 12, i wonder if it could be Sat, Nov 8 as seems a long time from Harris Stowe(Nov 4) to SIUC (Nov 15)

-four games in 6 days plus travel to the Texas tourney at the end of Nov

-a nice Christmas break for the guys as no games from Dec 22 to Dec 31

-3 Saturday home conf games plus a Friday(espn2) and a Sunday(nbcsports)

-no home game for Soulard Mardi Gras

-we play one game from Jan 18 to the 28th then 3 game in 6 days

-we have mini breaks in conf Jan 18-22 and Feb 18-21, with a young squad these might come in handy, but if on a roll you want to keep playing, we'll see

-let's go win a bunch of games!!!

Saw lots of games on FSMW last year. Expect the same this year?

Saw lots of games on FSMW last year. Expect the same this year?

-by my count FSMW did 12 games last year (11 at home and 1 away where they used the StJ's feed)

-this year i count 9 dates where the Blues are not playing or are on a different English speaking network or game times appear not be in conflict (the full Blues tv schedule is not on their site at this point), but FSMW has the Plus channel option so perhaps all games are available

-you come from a different point of view which i understand, or can at least try to, since you can't attend the home games, i wish all games were on tv, for me having the home games televised is a second dessert and would rather see the road games on tv since i can't get to them

-FSMW using the home team feed when possible would be wonderful but not sure how many teams produce their games (I guess the A10 is not in a position to mandate this)

-not sure we will get to 12 but i would surprised if fewer than 6 based on the above, the ratings from last year(which i recall as not bad) and the need at FSMW for content, unless they start doing high school (see Chaminade) games

Ooooh, Ooooh, Mr. Carrrtaaar.

Terre Haute Hulman Center on Nov. 18. I might be able to cut out early.

Haven't seen the McVeigh death chair/table yet.

I understand you head west on Bureau Rd to the Library but there is a check point somewhere around there where you check in and the guard in the tower speaking on a radio tells you how to proceed. He'll ask what your purpose is, if you brought a gun, illegal drugs etc.

damned if we do.... I hate weak schedules in all sports CFB should have handicaps. Who cares if michigan beats Mcneese state. Feel the same way as our playing likes of SIUE. But making lemonade from lemon schedule can happen. If we had the kind of schedule I'd prefer last season we would of been a bubble team at best. I think we are especially better served with this setup with the untested yet unprecedentedly talented team we'll being cheering on in less than 60 days. most of my dispeasure is aimed @ the haves not the have nots. in SLU b ball it has always been voiced as us being victim of no one wanting to play us rather than scheduling weak like MU football does which Pinkel does very well.

Agreed. Nonconference schedules like this make it hard to justify buying season tickets, but I guess I will just treat it as my donation to the alma mater for the year.

Be very careful. When I said it would be nice to at least know whowe were playing before needing to buy our season tickets, I was pretty much told to shut the he!! up. I understand now what a stupid concept that was, knowing what you were buying before paying for it!

I'm no longer a season ticket holder due to financial and family commitments but it seems really odd to base a season ticket purchase on the schedule. If you are a Billiken fan, can afford it, and can go to the games, holding out because one of the youngest teams in D1 softened up their schedule seems odd. I realize the problem was getting the renewal prior to seeing the schedule but I assume you were worried about Rockhurst, SIUE, and the like making up the bulk of our schedule....
