He gone. And he ain't ever coming back.

Is it thought that Illinois is the likely destination for Tilmon? I wonder if they played a hand in getting him away from ESL to La Lumiere. It just seems odd that a kid would be transferring in early to mid October, either somebody got in his ear or something happened at ESL recently.

Without regard for how or who, had tillmon not did this, there was very little chance he would have legitimately academically qualified. So just from the young man's own path of life, good for him getting out of one of the worst academic high schools in the country.

Now hopefully he embraces this opportunity at a highly regarded prep school to put himself on a path he can go to college.

Btw, for those of you that never saw him play, the kid is big time. I wouldn't be surprised wherever he ends up.

The timing could also be influenced by the current teacher strike at East St Louis.

For sure, I would think getting away from ESL as soon as possible would almost always be a good thing.

I saw him play against Chaminade and was extremely impressed with his fluidity for a guy of his size. The Chaminade bigs (Gladson and Cook) could not handle him at all in the post and then ESL stopped feeding him the ball. Watching him play for the Eagles this summer he did not quite show the development I had anticipated, but he certainly has the combination of size/length/athletic ability of a kid who will be playing in the NBA. Outside of the relatively strange timing, I don't see how this could be anything but a good thing for his development both on and off of the court.

Interesting, are the ESL students not currently in school? That would definitely make sense as being the thing that changed from August to now that would drive Tilmon to seek a better opportunity.

When I saw that Tillmon was transferring to La Lumiere, I thought "Good for him." Getting to leave ESL and go to what appears to be a legit school can only be good for him if he has hopes of qualifying academically in college.

-I also thought good for him and then wondered how much better, if any, is The View?

Some updates:

Duke is now involved with Nojel Eastern. Coach K and Jon Scheyer came out to see him earlier this month.

Goodwin and Bateman visited SEMO together.

La Salle is the latest to offer Nate Pierre-Louis, who has a ton of offers at this point.

Ridder visited Northern Iowa this weekend.

Yess visited Mizzou earlier this month. Wyoming came to visit him and Ryan Stipanovich; they've offered both.

Crawford just visited Notre Dame (football) for the second time and the visit is said to have gone very well. I'm taking him off the board for basketball. He's going to be a football recruit unless something changes dramatically.

Creighton, K-State, and Missouri State were out to see Farris and Stockard at Vashon. Stockard picked up an Illinois State offer in September.

Ra Kpedi has a Cornell offer (plus one from IUPUI) and has drawn a lot of recruiting eyes this period, as he plays for a loaded Lawrence North team. Lot of interest.

Brandon McKissic picked up a Missouri State offer, his first.

Christian Negron has visited both Iowa and Indiana. Pretty much the whole Big Ten is involved.

Jack Nunge visited Clemson. Notre Dame and Xavier were out to see him recently.

SLU is at Nathan Reuvers' open gym today. He recently visited Stanford, Santa Clara, and San Diego on a west coast trip. He has 14 offers.

David Sloan visited Cincinnati. Butler is the most recent school to show interest.

Alec Spence picked up his first offer, from SEMO. Evansville and Indiana State have been out to see him.

Joey St. Pierre - Tilmon's frontcourt mate at La Lumiere - picked up a New Mexico offer. However, he expects a SLU offer to come soon and says they've been the most involved lately.

Collin Stallworth is looking like a higher level football than basketball recruit right now because he's having a huge season as a WR at Rochester HS in Illinois and drawing Big Ten interest, but I'll leave him on the list to see how the basketball season goes.

Alonzo Verge transferred to Arlington Country Day School in Florida. Not quite sure what the story is (he transferred from Willowbrook to Proviso West), but he was apparently going to be ruled ineligible to play in Illinois until February, so he chose to go to a prep school instead of appeal. Illinois has now lost 2 of the top 5 2017 recruits (Tilmon to La Lumiere being the other).

Thanks, Akenten has been added to my list.

I didn't realize things had heated up so much with St. Pierre. That's interesting, with the added interest of Tilmon now up there at the same school.

I wonder if things between Sloan and Louisville will cool; that seemed to be his favorite so far, but given the controversy there at the moment, I'm not sure where it stands.

We've also been visiting Reuvers a ton this period, and he's got a ton of offers. Hopefully the interest is mutual and we can get a visit from him.

Does anyone know more about Verge's story? I didn't relize his eligibility at Willowbrook had constantly been questioned, and that things were so iffy with the Proviso West transfer. What's the reason for those constant questions about eligibility - academics? Residence? Regardless, he's a really fun player to watch. I don't think after this transfer he'll be considered a SLU recruit, especially given that he was asked about SLU a few months ago and said we hadn't been contacting him lately.

Nana Akenten: SF, 6-6, 175, Bolingbrook, IL (Bolingbrook)Offers: Illinois State, UIC, NIU, Western Michigan, UWGB, Northern Colorado, Chicago State. Interest: SLU, UNI, Indiana State, Valpo. Latest News: SLU and Valpo were at Bolingbrook’s open gym to see Akenten; UWGB, UIC, and NIU were also out recently to see him. His most recent visit was to NIU, who is reportedly making him a priority. Scouting Report: Akenten is a good athlete who can slash, rebound, and defend. Could project as a PF in college if he continues to grow. Twitter: @nbasfuture

I am somewhat confused by Crew's and his staff's recruiting over the last year. We seek a ton of resources in to fighting with Duke and UK over the top recruit in the country and the balance of our resources fighting with average MVC and Ohio Valley schools for 2 -3 star recruits. Shouldn't the bulk of our recruiting compete with the likes of Dayton, Butler, DePaul, Northwestern, Xavier, etc. over recruits who fall in the 3 - 3+ star range? Have we wasted the capital invested in our facilities and 3 straight top 25/NCAA teams?

In the past 12 months the 2 players that have committed to SLU are Moore and Bishop. Moore had offers from IL St., IN St., UMKC, Eastern, Western, Drake and Jacksonville St.. Bishop had offers from Fairfield, Columbia, Norfolk St. and Yale. We aren't winning any recruiting wars.

To answer your last question, almost. Another under .500 year and those 3 teams might as well be 10 years ago.

I have to admit that it has been so long since we have gotten any info about commits I have lost track of our status. We don't have any schollies this year - Hines took the last one - correct? We have one commit for next year - Moore, how many open slots left and did anybody else commit that I have missed?

We could still have another for 2016 if Hines goes back to walk-on status in the 2016-2017 season. The staff may decide to pack it in for 2016 and devote its attention to 2017 and 2018, but I don't think we're done with 2016 just yet. I hope to have updates on our 2016 names later today.

I think the confusion arises from 1) the belief that 3 star recruits were always 3 star recruits and 2) That a top A10 program like Dayton and a Big East program like Butler are recruiting at the same level.

Bryant McIntosh and Scottie Lindsey, Northwestern's freshmen guards last year, were considered 2 star recruits going into their junior year. In fact, McIntosh didn't even have an offer yet. Dayton is currently making 2 star 5'10 point guard Evan Gilyard a priority in the 2016 class. They signed three 2 star players in the 2015 class. Butler is now bringing in 3.5 star guys on a regular basis. If you look at their recruiting three years ago, that was not the case.

Charles Payton, a 6'6 185lb high-flying forward from Bloomington, IL is on campus today. He was one of the players the staff contacted on the first day coaches were allowed to make direct contact. Classic slasher and finisher.

Are you surprised he doesn't have more offers yet? Just UIC, SIUC, and (reportedly) Nebraska, but a lot of interest. Seems that no tweet about him can go by without the word "athletic" in there.
