  1. Marcus Bartley is transferring. Here's the two tweets from Wilson. I DM'd him after the first one to confirm that's what he was getting at -- he was (both confirmed directly from him and in that second tweet in the screen grab). https://twitter.com/Brian_Haenchen/status/765914457830592516 Kind of weird timing with classes starting next week. Also, I struggle with counting and with memory -- this makes four, right? Jolly, Milik, Reynolds, now Bartley... Am I forgetting anyone? (Also also, I miss all of you and I really miss covering the team. Just not the same out here in the frozen tundra that is South Dakota)
  2. I don't know what a "troop train" is, but this made me laugh out loud. I posed the question because I'm not sure how receptive folks would be to some has-been offering #analysis the day after games from a few hundred miles away -- Seriously. As for Ash, what are y'all expecting from him? Sure he's bigger (mentioned it over the summer, but he looks significantly more muscular), but I still don't think he's the type of player who can create his own shots with any sort of regularity. That's by no means a knock on him, but from an outsider's perspective, you shouldn't have the bar-for-success set there. With all that out there, his added bulk should make him even more of an interior threat, no? That's where I think he will be most valuable (driving to the basket, banging inside for rebounds, etc.)
  3. I did, but I only work nights at the Argus. So, I have time during the days that I could do some writing and do some coverage (albeit the day after from a few hundred miles away).
  4. Hey ya'll. Wanted to gauge interest on an idea I've been toying with for the past couple weeks. If I were to do some #analysis pieces the day after SLU hoops games, plus a feature or two every couple of weeks, would there be interest?
  5. Thanks fro all the kind words, y'all. It honestly hasn't really sunk in yet that I'm not gonna be around for this season -- which sucks, because I don't think they're gonna be quite as bad as they were last year, and stories on this whole "new offense" thing are basically gonna start writing themselves (that's gonna be a fun topic to discuss/watch from afar this season). • You bet your ass I'm bringing the gong with me. The next Asian guy with InsideSTL is gonna have to find his own schtick. • In a perfect world, I'd be hired on to cover SLU athletics alongside Stu.
  6. Thanks, y'all. Stan McNeal will be around again this year, too. Hopefully, the Post gives Stu more freedom with his coverage. Think both he and Tom were restricted a bit by the higher-ups. On an unrelated note, word on the street is that the non-con schedule might be coming out today. They're in the process of crossing the final i's and dotting a couple t's. Not expecting any groundbreaking developments, buuuuut it'll be nice to have a little thing I like to call "closure" on the matter.
  7. Thank ya both for the kind words! Timmermann was there for a while before I got there, then I was on the beat for three years (two with UNews, one and a half with InsideSTL). I think Stu will be there for a while, and I'm really hoping that the opportunity presents itself to get back to covering SLU hoops. I f-ing love this beat.
  8. So, for those who aren't on Twitter, I accepted the lead sports producer position with the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls. So, today was the last Billikens function I'll be covering -- at least for a while. It got a little emotional on the drive up to Chaifetz Arena when I came to the realization that I wouldn't be back there to cover a hoops event for a while.
  9. It's gonna be weird if/when they stop throwing the ball from underneath the opponent's basket to the other end of the floor. Not sure if I'm gonna be able to handle it.
  10. Some observations from what I've seen thus far (apologies if they're a little choppy): 1. There really isn't much value in reading into/trying to overanalyze individual performances. There's just not. 2. In terms of appearance, the differences with the sophomores are pretty substantial. Those of you who've been to practices probably know what I'm talking about. But for those who haven't, Davell looks significantly more toned, Milik is definitely slimmer, Jolly added some bulk and Ash definitely added some muscle, though, he claims he just doesn't see it (he was kidding -- I think). 3. Be encouraged by the amount of chatter and cheering on that goes on amongst the players during drills. There wasn't a whole lot of that over the course of last season (especially towards the end). Crews talks about it in terms of sharing knowledge. But this group already looks more like a team than they did over the course of last season -- will be interesting to see how well that carries over into preseason "camp" and the regular season... 4. Roby's point about the team having a totally different mindset entering this offseason was interesting. 5. I'm going to ask about it and write on it following Wednesday's practice, but this new offense has peaked me interest... I suspect they'll be going a bit faster this year (players have said in the past that Crews likes a little up in his tempo, think we saw flashes of that last season) and there will be more off-ball screens (he stayed with Majerus' on-ball screens through first three seasons). Last season was about as close to "rock bottom" as it gets offensively, and that definitely did not sit well with Crews. 6. Speaking of new offense, it's weird to see the team focused more on offense than defense. I'm sure it all balances out in the end with those closed sessions, but still...strange. -- Since I (unintentionally) went all guards Saturday, it'll be the forwards, and maybe a few surprises, on Wednesday.
  11. Thanks, man. I appreciate it. I figure by now most of y'all know where to find my stuff and anyone else can find me on Twitter, so there's not much point in posting links here. Don't get me wrong, I love the pub from other folks sharing my links and I appreciate the feedback, but I'm on here more to interact/communicate with fans than to self-promote. That being said, if it's a real big feature or steaming #hottake (like something similar to the folks who're anointing players the second-coming of Kwam, while simultaneously crucifying Crews), I'll probably share a link, but otherwise I'll keep to posting on that thread I started a while back.
  12. Yeah, it's a lot deeper than that. #FreeDotem. And don't say "last thing I want to hear about" that term is as antiquated as B-roll. Nobody uses tape anymore, it's all digital. GAH!
  13. Audio from our interview with Corey Frazier and Tim Holloway is up and running on InsideSTL.com: http://www.insidestlaudio.com/NightCap/072315-4NC.mp3 Both guys had some really great insight on SLU and the recruiting of Jayson Tatum.
  14. Thanks, man. Yeah. Those things never stop. The best is when they filter into the text inbox during Frank's show, and he unwittingly reads them on air. You can always pinpoint the exact point when he realizes he's been had.
  15. Yeah, that's what I was told on Evans. Jordair was supposedly still in the process of rehabbing, though you'd never know it by looking at his stats. Typical No. 5, right? Conklin's locked in for 8:30 tonight. For TMA fans, there will be fry talk, seeing as he's from a foreign land, technically. Really want to know if waffle fries are big for Australians, too (kidding).
