Recruiting - 2016

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty sure this question has been posted in the last 100 pages, but when do folks realistically think JT will commit? To me, it wouldn't surprise me if he verbally committed in May-June (see http://usatodayhss.com/2015/the-jayson-tatum-blog-in-home-with-the-national-champion-blue-devils-eybl-and-more-eybl-jayson-tatum-four-unc-duke-st-louis-kentucky). Heck, maybe he'll commit next week after his visit. In fact, I'm just gonna assume that he's visiting to inform Crews and Company in person that JT is committing to SLU.

Unless extending it somehow benefits us, I want it to be as soon as possible. Besides the personal curiosity and just wanted to know one way or the other, I'm a big believer that coming in 2nd is the worst possible scenario. The longer we keep allocating resources to recruiting him the more it hurts our chances with other recruits who we don't watch as frequently. The more certainty we have regarding whether we have 1 or 2 scholarships, the better.

And finally, if the result is a positive one the more time we have to promote that he will be a Billiken which will:

- Improves our recruiting for the last scholly.

- Improve our scheduling for the 2016-17 schedule (exempt tournaments, home and homes, etc.)

- Improve season ticket sales (people may buy this year in anticipation of the next season)

- Improves our attractiveness should anything occur on the Big East front.

I'm sure I'm missing something. The sooner the better unless someone can make a legitimate argument why waiting to October improves our chances.

No doubt that it has to be fun and exciting to have every program and coach contact you, praise you, come watch you play... -- something I sure never experienced -- but it also has be similar to the paparazzi to the Hollywood community. The real fun is probably long over, the contacts are too many and JT probably just wants to get back to "normal". And yes, the trend sure seams to be committing earlier and earlier so a May or June announcement does not seem unreasonable.

Completely agree.

If we're going to end up the winner, I just think dragging out the process would make it that much sweeter. Especially since so many people around town seem to think we have no chance. Not saying it would help our chances; I just think it would make it more fun.

For that reason I actually hope he commits to SLU tomorrow. Then I'll have a complete year of uninterrupted "I told you so" moments without having to hedge my complete insufferable-ness towards local Mizzou honks and Mizzou media fanboys.

-I can see FBJT waiting until school is back in session in the fall so he can have a presser with his fellow students - or - doing it next week

-in the former, we FINALLY win one of those 'multiple hats on the table' events

We don't want any hats involved. That would be bad news. We do much better when it is a simple tweet by the player.

No, we want hats. If he picks SLU both UK and Duke fans will think it's them because our Blue hues are very similar. Then when they calm down they'll see that smiling billiken winking at 'em. Really, so far the only thing that gives me a glimmer of hope is that comment his AAU coach said, "it will shock a lot of people."

I still wish New Era would make a no frills, solid blue fitted with the white Billiken face. Have yet to see one. But camo print stretch-fitteds and highlighter yellow and black SLU caps galore.

From my point of view, we need no hats, and we need no hoopla of any kind. If he just tweets that he is committing to SLU that will be more than enough.

In that case just hack his Twitter account and post "I'm going to stay home and go to SLU".

I believe nike and under armour are the two main hat producers for SLU based on what I see in the bookstore.

Yeah, the ones in the bookstore are usually all adjustable. They have some fitted ones in the store at Chaifetz from some weird brand, but I haven't seen a solid blue one with a Billiken face in a while. Hopefully a Tatum commitment will make life easier on SLU hat snobs.
