Listener of the Streets (6/7)

  1. This is kinda how they do things in the People's Republic of China the government tells citizens where they have to go and how much money they can make. I googled "fear of change" this is what it returned: "AI overviews are experimental. Learn more The fear of change is called metathesiophobia, and it's an extreme version of the basic survival instinct to stick to what you know. It can cause severe anxiety or panic attacks, and can become a debilitating fear that prevents people from making changes in their lives. Metathesiophobia can also cause: Self-doubt Lack of self-esteem Social anxiety Depression Inability to adapt to new situations Isolation Inability to make decisions Failure to consider options Defining identity by external things Dependence on possessions Here are some ways to overcome the fear of change: Reframe the experience: Be more present with the experience as it is, and experience it to its fullest instead of worrying about it changing Practice repetition: Train your brain to follow a path of positive feedback rather than a negative feedback loop Write down the pros and cons: Encourage clients to write down the pros and cons of making change."
  2. To address @cgeldmacher 's point regarding restrictions on the # of years. College sports are set up as an extracurricular activity for college students. As far as I know that's full time students in pursuit of a degree. That is the same as most other college activities like Mock Trial, Chess Club, what have you. So the limitation is being a full time student in pursuit of a degree in good standing. Now one could stay in school full time more than 4 years that's true. So I'm not sure if a limitation will be able to be upheld. If they're a student in good standing in pursuit of a degree. So we could possibly see that challenged and changed as well. Quickest way to get that challenged and changed is to try and impose other arbitrary restrictions. More rules more challenges. More change.
  3. Seems like the market can take care of itself. If it's not sustainable and no one pays there's less money. Pretty simple. You can choose to donate, not donate, watch, don't watch. Everyone has a choice now even the players. For every regulation or new law there's unintended consequences and loop holes to be exploited. If better players stay and don't jump to G League or Europe don't we see better basketball? Seems like the system is rewarding more experienced players and keeping a team together as long as possible. That's why Calipari struggled with a bunch of one and dones when he previously dominated.
  4. Can someone give a summary of the event? Besides RSVP issues what did the Coach say about NIL strategy? How many showed up? Any indication of the BVF warchest amount?
  5. Yeah you should've gotten an email. Maybe emails went out to donors at a certain level of funds? Not sure. Or oversight. Need to get to a point in funding that a full time employee can be hired to alleviate the burden on those who are strictly volunteers with other demanding jobs. Or outsource the admin stuff some how.
  6. I don't think they got anything wrong. Not sure why there's a problem. Be a donor and or season ticket holder send RSVP, show up, done. I'm looking forward to reports on Coach's NIL strategy.
  7. The website before had no info or method to donate. Now it does that's improvement. The event last year had basically no notice. Yeah they should have set up a system to receive RSVPs and count people. I use Evite for parties. But they didn't. I went to the site. I donated. I got an email with the information to attend. I would personally attend if I were in STL. Even without a confirmation email. Progress is being made. The Coach is going to talk about NIL strategy something we've been clamoring for over a year. I've been very critical in the past but I don't want that criticism to anchor me to a position that I can't recognize improvement. There's still more improvement that can be achieved but I don't expect it to be instantaneous.
  8. Yeah but they're improving. Baby steps, improvement doesn't go from ineffective to completely functional organization quickly. Perhaps if they get enough donations they can hire a full time person but employees are expensive. What's the cheapest full time person they could hire? $50k/year? Maybe. How good is someone making that much money? Did you get BVF email? That's an invitation. If not the X post is an invitation to Donors/ticket Holders. So as I read it you can go just send RSVP email with headcount. I wouldn't be disheartened, send your email and go.
  9. Private in that you must be a season ticket holder or donor. Yeah it'd be great to get an email back but if they got the initial email they are invited to the private event. Also the event was publicized on X to get more attendees seems like they'll be alright. I don't think we can expect perfection from what's essentially a volunteer organization. The new website and this event are good steps.
  10. What's a PR nightmare? Did you get an email or just see the X post on the message board? I don't use X (Twitter) either but my understanding from that X post (in this thread) and the email, it gives me the 5Ws. If you want to go send a RSVP to the email address given then go. Who: Donors/Season Tix holders What: BVF event with Coach Schertz When: 16 April 5-6:30PM Where: MAC West Why: Coach will outline vision for SLU and NIL RSVP to [email protected] Seems Straightforward to me.
  11. I can't go, so I didn't respond. The email had all the details necessary to attend except attire. So I'm not sure what's the problem?
  12. I got a direct email regarding the event asking for RSVP. Perhaps there was a minimum donation necessary. It was my first time donating. I donated the day Schertz was hired. So they got back to me.
  13. Also the recruiting is making connections. If we didn't sign the player and they go elsewhere but later transfer you've already made a connection for a possible transfer. When you see a athlete hit the portal I always look at where they're from and who recruited them before. Seems that many go back home or to a school/coach hat had previous relationship. But I'd need to validate that assumption
  14. That other player on the box score Mahki Myles, decommitted from Wichita St and looks like went to Miss St. Was 6A Mr Basketball in MS. So that's a good team.
