According to my Nova insider, Jay Wright picks one guy per roster year to be his whipping post. AY seemed to be givne that role for his sophomore season. Most stick it out, others do not. Maybe this also was the case with Isaiah Armwood. And Reggie Bryant. Who knows? In any case, this same Nova insider told me the Wildcat fandom loved AY with his work ethic and what he brought to the floor. They were sad to see him go. Just another word-of-mouth type evaluation and you all know how I love those.

Again, can't wait.

Nova typically has a lot of good guards. Could be a case of getting lost in the shuffle. AY was a big time recruit coming out of HS - recruited by Kentucky and other big time programs. There won't be many bigger guards in the A-10. A lot of guards from bigger conferences have transferred in and had success - Creek, Sibert, Sanford... hopefully we'll be able to add AY to the list. I think he will lead the team in minutes.

I have a former work associate, a Nova grad, absolute fanatic (knew Rollie M.) who said the same thing. Wright takes down one player a year to show the troops he is a serious leader.

My friend and others from the alumni are sick of that tactic, and thought AY was high potential but was Wright's whipping boy. In our environment, AY might be a star.

AY is a Beast. You are about to see why this new Billiken team is not to be taken lightly. "Hungry Billikens" are waiting in the wings to prove themselves once again that they belong.

All the ripping of McBroom is silly. Who cares what he does to his hair or how many degrees removed from dating Justin Bieber he is? He certainly wasn't the only Billiken who faded in February last year. There were five or six games last year that could've easily ended up losses without him knocking down shots last year, and that was while working his way back after a one year layoff on the same team as five seniors. He doesn't need to be Micah Mason this year, although a pasty white kid with a gluten sensitivity certainly wouldn't have to worry about people fixating on his Instagram account.

Most popular? The only fans I know who talk him up are women who think he's cute, same as Glaze. When people get tired of talking about his selfies they move on to ripping him for helping homeless people. I'm not sure where this idea's coming from that he's so popular and overrated, other than getting on the cover of Athlon with its current national circulation of 14.

Agreed...he hit some big shots, he's a good athlete and that's why Majerus was high on him.

I'm excited as well, but it's more about the drama that comes with the unknown than reasonable high expectations. The last 3 years we all had reasonable high expectations which were largely met or even exceeded. But this year we're sailing into uncharted waters and that's what going bring a lot of lively discussion to the board this season. Assume for a moment, they really deliver and we nudge our way into the top 25 and the dance, we will all be over the top and even more excited than the last 3 years. Why? Because it would be so unexpected. Now assume, we struggle throughout the season, we'll all be looking for signs of who's developing and who's disappointing. Both scenarios are going to provide us fans with a lot of lively discussion. Hope the first case is what happens, but it's highly doubtful. In any case, let the games begin and the chips fall where they may.

+ we'd be drooling over the next 2 seasons where almost the whole team returns.

I agree as well.

AM might be a horse's ass (I have no idea.) He might be a little too happy with himself (as a Dallas Cowboy fan since the 70's I understand.) He might be a selfie addict (again no idea.)

It's just ridiculous almost no one seems to be expecting him to improve and some are hoping he's going to be benched for freshmen and predict we're going to suck if he isn't. Based on zero firsthand knowledge, Austin appears to be a bit too cocky for some and a bit too self absorbed. Most teens are. In my opinion, it's just way too early to totally discount him based on a late season freshman fade and some narcissistic behavior.

If this is true then he will be an NBA first rounder. JJ was the most athletic player on the court in the majority of games last year.

Just because he possesses those qualities does not make you a first round pick. In my opinion from what I have heard that is what he is suppose to be like. If JJ had a consistent jumpshot he could have made a NBA roster...he possessed everything else.

We lose to URI and Duquesne on the road without AM. He did hit a lot of big shots before fading late. Still, he was 5th on the team in scoring, led in 3-point% and free throw %. It is a great luxury to have a guy who can shoot 90% from the line when you are trying to hold onto a lead late. It wouldn't be surprising if he was one of our top two scorers this season. He can create his own shot. He won't be a great defender, but it seemed to get better. I think he is a very valuable player, but best suited to be a 6th man - spark off the bench. Ideally I don't want him to be our top point guard and like a few others hope that Bartley or Reynolds can take a bigger role and become our top floor general at some point during the season. They are the future. Even as a guy coming off the bench last year, AM managed 20+ minutes, so he will get a lot of PT this year whether he starts (which is for HS) or comes off the bench. I can guarantee he will be in close games late when we have the lead.

Big time. He just needs to get to the line.

I'm writing off his selfie obsession to his Hollywood roots. I was a huge AM fan the first 2/3rds of the season and always excited when he came off the bench. Don't know what happened the last 10 games, but he disappeared. My guess is he was worn down physically, since he also got a lot of minutes early on. But he wasn't the main reason for our flame out at the end, the whole team was worn to a frazzle. And when you look at it, the fact we just didn't have enough go to sophs or juniors backing up our starting senior five was the answer. I'll lay the blame for lack of any Sophs on RM, since that was his last class. Yes, we had GG and JM who had their moments, just not enough of them so that JC could have given the starters meaningful breathers in all those close conference games where they had to play 30+ minutes every night.

You are wrong about Athlon's national circulation total. The total is actually 19.

Additionally, the Athlon's I've seen (at the Walgreens in Ferguson) does not have McBroom or any Billiken on the cover.

Years ago my local Kroger used to carry all these magazines. Used to read them off the rack when the wife did the food shopping. Actually just checked the Bills write-up. Now, and for some years, Kroger stopped carrying them.

Either that or the yearbooks' publishers/distributors decided Kroger wasn't a profitable channel partner.
