thetorch
RA certainly looks like the PF beast we've struggled to find. One question, what's his true height? Some have said he's really about 6'5", but I thought he was 6'7". Agbeko is taller than Grandy, about the same as Lancona. On the high end of 6'7 or 6'8. MB73
From what I have heard....expect the go to players to include AY, TL and MC. GG will continue to fill his usual role(would like to see more based on off season work but one can only hope) and JM at starting center. AM I am not sure about yet but I imagine a similar role like last coming off the bench. Also expect Frosh to get some minutes at all positions as well. There will be alot of growth pains this season for sure! Yes, but my whole point is that we need an inside scoring threat, like Conklin's SR year when he emerged, that opened up everything for everybody else, and DE, though a hybrid 3/4, could post up down low against most opponents, score from the inside. Both were "go to" down low at crunch time. To get to the NCAA's and win a game, we need someone in that role.
slu72
Does anyone think this could be a possible starting lineup: AM- PG, AY-2, MC-3, RA-PF, TL-PF. This strikes me as maybe the best offensive team we could put on the floor. Not sure what they can do on defense. If TL and RA are both a legit 6'8", we're really not giving too many teams a height advantage.

Duff Man
Ideally Milik Yarbrough can post up smaller defenders and draw larger defenders away from the basket with perimeter shooting. Agree 100% on Agbeko being the key to this team dramatically outperforming expectations. There's just no one else on the roster that's going to develop into a dominant power forward. I think Manning will be good for 7-9 PPG between his awkward hook shot (that most college defenders cannot block) and his mid-range jumper. One of the freshman will back him up. Marcus Bartley and Miles Reynonds will challenge McBroom for the point guard minutes. Whoever plays the best defense and while committing the least turnovers will likely play the most. Ability to hit the open 3, a must. Crawford and Lancona will be in the rotation so long as they can make open 3s.
SLU_Nick
I was flipping through the Lindy's preseason mag and they had AY on the 3rd team A-10 and Milik Yarbrough as one of the top newcomers (touting his rebounding skills). I havent heard many posters talking about MY even predicted in the rotation. I still want McBroom off the bench. His D is suspect (also he takes a selfie every 30 mins, not sure when he practices). I would like to see a starting line up of MC AY RA TLJM ....And hope that MC or AY can get the Bills into their offense. I havent seen the skills in AM that make me think he can be a steady PG...actually the exact opposite.
slufan13
Yarbrough will be a stud as long as he steps it up on defense. Even if he isn't a huge contributor this year, I expect him to be a big time scorer before he leaves.

Yeah but McBroom is a fan favorite and a true representation of SLU's values so he has to be good.... I don't think McBroom is very good, but we do need him to knock down his shots all season this year and be a steady ball handler. If he's our superstar player, he either got a lot better or we're really bad. He could be a super key role player though if he improves. McBroom's last 10 games last year: 3.7 ppg 25% from the floor 16% from 3 .9 assists per game He can't fade out like he did last season. VeniceMenace
Would be shocked if either MC or AY play the point....they have not in the past...AM is the only point on this team with college experience.
JettFlight5
A lot of what was said about Dwayne Evans when he came was about his rebounding prowess. He wasn't a huge scorer in high school. MY was a scorer, and it will be interesting to see the comparisons between the two as MY plays for the Billikens. If he has the career DE had, that ain't bad. I would really like to see MC develop into a key player. The reports on him have been good to see. I was hoping he won the job from JB last year, but now he can really be a positive contributor with a lot more minutes. If he becomes the shooter that we really haven't had, more power to him. He may have his moments, but all I want from him is to knock down open 3's and provide some turnover-free ball handling while not trying to force the issue. slu72
As of today, all we have is a lot of hearsay and supposed potential. Will agree on paper this appears to be a talented group. But, and a big but, here's how it breaks down; 5 FR who have no idea what it takes to play defense at this level, or how tough they'll be defended. 3 sophs who found out learning to play defense at this level is not learned overnight. A transfer who never flourished at his previous school. An undersized PG whose name is not Chaz Williams. Two SR's who have shown us brief moments of being legit D1 players, but in no way that they have star potential. Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we're in for a very interesting season, as we will be getting a glimpse of what our BB future looks like in the JC era. I can say that they will be in tip top shape to play good defense and outwork their opponents. Game will probably be more uptempo and this will be one of the biggest team we have fielded in recent years. The guards will be taller than usual with the exception of AM. The more I think about them the more I am excited to see this team start the new era of Billiken basketball.

I'm excited as well, but it's more about the drama that comes with the unknown than reasonable high expectations. The last 3 years we all had reasonable high expectations which were largely met or even exceeded. But this year we're sailing into uncharted waters and that's what going bring a lot of lively discussion to the board this season. Assume for a moment, they really deliver and we nudge our way into the top 25 and the dance, we will all be over the top and even more excited than the last 3 years. Why? Because it would be so unexpected. Now assume, we struggle throughout the season, we'll all be looking for signs of who's developing and who's disappointing. Both scenarios are going to provide us fans with a lot of lively discussion. Hope the first case is what happens, but it's highly doubtful. In any case, let the games begin and the chips fall where they may.
Billikenboy
McBroom is on the cover of the new Athlon college basketball issue. He is certainly the most popular Billiken at this time. I just hope he put as much into his game as he has on instagram. We are expecting more than last year's production.

I believe AY had a good freshman year for a freshman at Nova but for some reason he got in the dog house of with the coach his sophomore year. Not sure whose fault that is but I think it would be fair to give some credence to his first year as a possible indicator. Otherwise no argument with your other comments. Taj79
According to my Nova insider, Jay Wright picks one guy per roster year to be his whipping post. AY seemed to be givne that role for his sophomore season. Most stick it out, others do not. Maybe this also was the case with Isaiah Armwood. And Reggie Bryant. Who knows? In any case, this same Nova insider told me the Wildcat fandom loved AY with his work ethic and what he brought to the floor. They were sad to see him go. Just another word-of-mouth type evaluation and you all know how I love those. Again, can't wait.
VeniceMenace
Most Nova message board fan feedback at the time of Ash's transfer validated Taj's insider feedback. The sentiment seemed to be that Ash was a viable offensive threat with good upside and needed to improve his D and handle.
