Recruit (1/7)

  1. Turnovers ARE a problem. Someone should tell the guards that bounce passes are legal. McBroom needs to realize he is not Curly Neal and cannot dribble thru three guys at once. Free throws only looked good as a team cuz of Miles' individual production. Bartley must stay with his man in man to man defense. This is not HS, and teams will pass to the open man (his) if he is undisciplined and trying to double cover. Maybe two of the three big guys can play at the same time occasionally... (i.e.- Manning / Jolly) and we will have a power forward look. Better pick / screens in last game - need to continue to get away from exclusive perimeter passing in half court game. Inside - out, lane cutters, drive & dish.
  2. I concur... he led by example... driving to the hoops... BUT, was rejected a few times and too polite a few others... the bills need some JAM TIME....
  3. Saw both last night. Still too much perimeter passing, but better picks/screens and some inside out action. Better free throws (thanks to Miles), Bartley needs to cover HIS man in man-to-man defense and quit 'cheating' (burnt way too often by pass to wide open set shot). McBroom must realize he cannot do it all alone. Manning came alive in last 6-8 minutes - altered shots, 3 blocks, good boxing & 4 boards. Bills need upper class men leadership. ugly win (better than ugly loss)... team obviously a work in progress... Go Bills PS - holiday break, Blues game, and unfortunate current events all played role in lower attendance. This will improve
  4. Improved screens / picks by ALL big men... still too much perimeter passing, but i saw improvement. The drive / dish is an effective weapon, which means more crashing the o boards... (by all). I concur, a team work in progress, and it would be tough to get worse. Freshman can be fearless (case in point, Miles), but can also play like one year removed from HS... (lol, we've seen this too) McBroom needs to accept his limitations and not try to do it all. Manning should be more active to get more minutes. Crews should realize (check that, he does, but should execute) he can play two big men at same time (i.e. - Jolly / Manning) for short periods of time.
  5. And Manning did... altered shots, blocked 3, 4 big boards ... he needs some minutes to resume his junior blossom... I saw better screen / picks from ALL the big men last night.... guards need to pass inside for open kick-outs, more cutting the lane to give post players options AND... they gotta shoot better than 25%
  6. Great performance by Miles. It was nice to see some senior leadership by John also in the last 7-8 minutes. 4 boards, 3 blocks, altered many shot attempts... he could be a kwaMan-ning of a different flavor... ;-)
  7. Loss notwithstanding, I am not seeing much in the half court game. Too much perimeter passing. Almost exclusively. Big men need to actually set the pick when they come out to three pt. line before moving on, or no screen (or traffic) I am not seeing cutters in the lane, or when a wing man does make a dribble drive move, someone filling the lane to give then an option, Yes, the poor foul shooting was a big hurt, even more though, was the amount of uncontested opponent shots. Not your typical Crews defensive effort. Lastly, is Manning hurt? He does not appear to be playing with the fire he had as a junior.... Freshmen can be fearless, not giving undo respect to opponents and taking charge. On the other hand, freshmen sometimes play like they are one year removed from high school. The few upperclassmen need to step up and provide more poise & leadership, or it will be a long season indeed. Go Bills! (I'll be there tonight).
  8. The age old problem of playing freshman is... on the good side, they can be fearless... on the bad side, they sometimes play like they are one year removed from high school
  9. Normal turnout... Tues before Thanksgiving turnout... few students since on break... The 'chicken littles' are the ones posting doom & gloom. Regarding BASKETBALL, it would be nice not to see 9% perimeter passing like there are NO plays... Set the pick before you roll, run the lane w/o the ball, sheesh
  10. Very early... must keep winning. Soft schedule will hurt you large if loss occurs
  11. The advantage SLU has over other 'west' schools is if a team like GT demands to play in 18K+ arena, Scottrade is 'down the block'... And, it would only be every other year. The BE has made my Alma Mater play most its games at MSG for this very reason, while the away game would be in ... let's say, the Carrier dome. From a $$$ stand point, SJU Carnesecca 'arena' is way under 10K, and SLU would want to play in MSG, which in turn might have the Johnnies want to play in Scottrade the following year. $$$ talks and play a role in everything. I understand the Bills play in a 10k+ house, but being in the BE would most certainly create some 'big house' games. I also concur only two teams will join, with home n home w/n division & alt home n home with other six teams. This will allow current scheduling contracts with Syr, Pitt, etc. to continue with other original BE teams and have a 16 game league schedule.
  12. Understood... looks like the missus is freeing up her schedule anyway... ;-)
  13. I have two for the Billiken Blizzard - highest bidder - lower bowl - great seats! PM if interested
  14. assasin - YES - too much Tommy Gunn would be OK "Lisch the Dish" or "Lisch the swish, Lisch / Swish"
