Listener of the Streets (6/7)

  1. Their guards are versatile, but I consider him a 2 with Conwell the 3. Julian Larry the PG considering he leads them in assists. A backcourt of Conwell, JLarry and Gibby would make sense.
  2. In order of preference, I want this dream roster... 1) Avilla 2) Conwell 3) Kent 4) Larry 5) Swope * The reason I have Swope last, is because if he doesn't come over, then we welcome back Gibby. Then I'm fine taking all three of Schertz's incoming recruits, especially the big man, and let's keep our recruit Williford, who I'm intrigued with. With an experienced starting lineup, I would be fine having four freshman because there won't be a lot of available minutes. So that leaves four more spots. 1) I like Thames as a bench guy, good athleticism and versatility... a solid back-up to Kent 2) A combo guard who is a great perimeter defender first and foremost 3) A more offensive minded combo guard to provide additional ballhandling and another shooter (possibly Hughes, I thought he was over-exposed this year, but in a more limited role, could be effective) 4) Most important, a rim protector & or a bad ass rebounding big
  3. This is the timeline of his recruiting. ISU actually offered him before we did. https://247sports.com/Player/JaQuavis-Williford-46143006/TimelineEvents/ I would think we would be a nice addition for any offensively skilled player.
  4. Doing a bit of a deeper dive on ISU - it is a mess... No president and No AD, plus a lot of budget problems. IF Schertz bails on us at the 11th hour, I would be shocked it was to return to ISU. Some folks can complain all they want about May, but be thankful he wasn't bounced or left a few months ago like the ISU AD. Having May in lockstep with Doc Chaifetz is crucial at this time, providing some stability and continuity for a new coach.
  5. Some players in the portal have already committed to new schools. Let's lose on Tuesday and get this going. A lot of work to do.
  6. A lot of those Louisville fans are whacked, good luck to Kelsey. The Louisville play by play guy is saying the presser is tomorrow btw.
  7. This will be a big topic as soon as the head coach presser is concluded... These are the players that remain: Brad Thames Hughes Curcic Zhang Magassa I expect most of these to be gone, I think Thames could serve a nice bench role and I wouldn't have a problem if Curcic stuck around to develop. I'm okay if Hughes is willing to accept a MUCH smaller role, but wouldn't blame him for moving on. Brad could provide some value off the bench, but I would be surprised if he stuck around. We'll be glued to the portal to see when ISU players hit it - other than the 5 starters, I don't see anything on their bench. The three ISU recruits could be in play. I think the only way Gibby possibly comes back is if one of the ISU guards doesn't come over.
  8. When Loyola beat Dayton this year, it was the fist time they beat a ranked opponent at home since 1986.
  9. I just wasted a few minutes perusing a UofL board - basically they hated Mack, don't like Kelsey, don't like Schertz because he's never won a NCAA Tourney game - no one is worthy of the Louisville job. #delusional
  10. He has had some injury issues. Last month he shut it down for the season.
  11. One thing that is clear... if SLU can bring this over the finish line, Doc. Chaifetz will get the credit... if it unravels at the 11th hour, May will get the blame.
  12. Excellent post - although I posted that video on Monday! Just kidding. If you want to see the complete recruiting class - here it is. He's clearly trying to add size to his current roster. Merritt Alderink | 6-7 | Forward | Zeeland, Mich. | Zeeland West Alderink was the 2023 Holland Sentinel Basketball Player of the Year and named as one of the 2023 Division 1 Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan's Best. In the 2023 season, Alderink averaged 19.3 PPG and 7.1 RPG. The forward is in his high school record books, holding the single-game points record with 42. Coach Schertz spoke about Alderink: "Merritt is a perfect fit for us both systematically and culturally. He has great size, toughness, physicality, and an extremely high motor that all great competitors possess. He can score the ball in a variety of ways in the halfcourt and brings a toughness and maturity far beyond his years to our program. He's an exceptional student and young man that our fans will love to watch compete." Robert "Sean" Birmingham | 6-8 | Forward | Njardvik, Iceland | Concord Academy Birmingham, originally from Iceland, attends Concord Academy out of North Carolina. In 2023 he became a member of the AAU team, Team Curry. In his junior year at Cannon School, the second-ranked prIvate school in the state, Birmingham averaged 14 PPG, 7 RPG, and 2.5 blocks-per-game. He also was named to the CISAA All Conference Team. From 2020-2022, Birmingham was a member of the prestigious basketball academy in Vitoria, Spain – Baskonia. Coach Schertz spoke about Birmingham: "Sean is an elite shooter with great size but he's much more than just a shooter. Sean has great feel which allows him to be a playmaker for others, coupled with a high basketball IQ that drives self-awareness allowing him to do what he does best all the time while bringing out the very best in his teammates. Sean is also a fantastic student and as high character and mature a young man as I have recruited. We are thrilled he's a Sycamore!" Christian Nitu | 6-11 | Forward | Uplay, Canada | Fort Erie International Academy Nitu comes from our neighbors to the north. Nitu participated in the NBA's Basketball Without Borders Global Camp; the camp has featured current NBA-standouts like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Joel Embiid. Nitu also competed for Team Canada in the u17 World Cup and was on the Biosteel All-Canadian Team. Coach Schertz spoke about Nitu: "Christian is one of the most unique players I have ever seen, his combination of size, skill and mobility is incredibly rare. On top of that he's a ferocious competitor who is obsessed with the game of basketball, so he's a perfect for our Indiana State basketball culture. Christian has a level of versatility on both ends of the floor that will provide us with incredible flexibility as we see him as someone who can play with another big or operate as a standalone big himself. He's a special talent with huge ambitions and a work ethic to match, and I can't wait to partner with him to help him reach his ceiling."
  13. Someone slimy like Will Wade would be the perfect fit for Louisville!
  14. Drake players Overton, Wright and Enright wasting no time hitting free agency. AJ Smith is a kid from Edwardsville who averaged 13ppg/8 rpg as a sophomore at Southern Indiana hits portal.
  15. I'm not following... Schertz says his friend got death threats, yet he's going to go ahead and accept the job there?
