SShoe
Where is this? KC? I'd like to see something like that and Grand and Lindell as well. It's actually bigger than the building that used to be there and would be a nice gateway to Grand Center. It doesn't have to be a high rise. Seattle. AMDG-Unit
I always thought campus needed a freshman dorm on the east side of Grand, in that Tegler field area, but that they couldn't build there because of the Civil War/Camp Jackson Affair skirmish? Regardless, I think a freshman dorm on the east side of Grand would really connect the campus better and bring more life to the businesses on that side plus bring in more student spectators for athletic events. The spot across from Humps would be pretty rad also. Having lived in the Lofts right above Humps my senior year, I am an authority on knowing how great that location can be. Taking a page from my financial accument, future students living directly across from Humps should just learn to budget roughly 50% of their income to Humps bar tabs and they'll have a great senior year. majerus mojo
Not from what I have heard about this plan. Gries parking lot and the grassy area behind Fusz and across from Humps Gries parking lot.. How can they build on this sacred site -- where Rihanna once graced us with her pressance in between bouts of sickness?

willie
If my old memory serves it was Clark's before Fridays. Before that it was Usselmans sandwich shop.
bonwich
Too old, Willie. John Clark opened Friday's sometime between your day and my day. He was forced to change the name to Clark's when the first TGIFriday's came to town and promptly sent him a C&D letter. I think he still has a bar/restaurant on the Landing, although he may have sold it by now and retired to Bora Bora.
brianstl
Clark got out of the bar and restaurant business a few years back. He still owns the building that housed Boomers, Jake's Steaks, etc.. He lives on the top floor of that building and has been the only resident of Laclede's Landing for years.
willie
It's a good thing your on this board Joe because you are correct. I think he owned Lucious Boomers and some other Landing Bar. Not sure if he's still here but was not to long ago.
Clock_Tower
Almost equally bad as tearing down the building for no good reason was watching Clark's turn into a coffee place - believe it was the Grind or something like that.

billslasttermdropout
WTH is that that thing on the back of Gries? And some people thought the things on top of it were ugly.... Too bad they can't extend it across the entire width and really fix that big beast up. The new building is pretty sweet though. Does the shorter wing have different colored bricks or is it just me? Box and Won
Also, here's an article about the new apartment development slated for Spring and Olive, just a couple blocks north of campus: http://nextstl.com/2014/12/olive-apartments/ And an update on the Missouri Theater building redevelopment, which is moving forward: http://nextstl.com/2014/12/missouri-theater-rehab-takes-step-forward-634-n-grand/ It's crazy to see the new apartment developments springing up at Forest Park and Vandeventer and over on West Pine. When you factor all these projects in with the new dorms, there will be a lot more students living on or just off campus within a few years. When you factor all these projects in with the new dorms, there will be a lot more students living on or just off campus within a few years. Honestly, it seems like there will be too many apartments next to SLU in the next couple years. Already probably 85-90% of SLU students live on or within a few blocks of campus. Except for commuters, it seems like almost every undergrad lived on campus, in Cornado, Lindell Towers, or the Lofts. Grad students could use more housing near both main and med campus, though. Deutschkind
Two words. Cor Tex. True. Yet I keep seeing that a lot of these new building are being marketed to students. The one on Olive and The Standard for sure. West Pine Lofts, the Laclede Lofts and CityWalk will be good for Cortex
bonwich
Grad students could use more housing near both main and med campus, though. No, this can't be. A residential development in the former Pevely complex simply wasn't viable. I know this is true because a Jesuit said it.
