bonwich
Nice piece on Joe in today's Post Business section by my pal Marty Van Der Werf. http://domino.stltoday.com/stltoday/busine...49?OpenDocument
slu72
I was a frosh when Joe was a senior. Saw him a little at the Bush. On the court always a class act. Had a smooth little 15 jumper too. Glad it turned out well for him.
Box and Won
Nice piece. Van Der Werf has been a great addition to the P-D.
slu72
I can relate to his human relations stint at Merck. I was offered a management trainee position with Westvaco upon graduation. During the interview I was told my first position would be a shift supervisor at their East Patterson, NJ plant. The interviewer told me turnover for trainees was averaging three months. I thought,"boy they get promoted fast here." Wrong, they quit. In fact, one had gone missing, just vanished into thin air. Needless to say, I declined the job. cheeseman
72- I think you were a sophomore then or he was a junior. I graduated in 73 and he was a senior my freshman year in 69.
OldGeyser
Jumpin Joe graduated in June 1970. I believe the Pfizer plant that he is referring to is across from the Jackie Joyner complex in ESL
cheeseman
That is what I said - graduating in June of 1970 meant you were senior in 69-70.
slu72
I started in fall of '69, but took "basket weaving" courses for two summers and finished in 3 years.
