TheA_Bomb
Just me speculating here but these arrests are just the beginning. It's one thing to go down for NCAA sanctions to protect someone it's a whole other thing to go down on a Federal crime for someone. They'll roll. Also it appears there was/is one or more Title III wire taps in this case. You conduct an arrest and listen to see what happens sometimes you'll get the evidence you need for more arrests. Also normally associated with the day you do arrests they normally execute search warrants. Though they've already looked at all the telephone contacts of all these guys and ran their call logs prior to arrest. Going to be real interesting to see how this spider webs. brianstl
I wonder if this may be enough to convince the show companies to walk away from the AAU circuit.

HoosierPal
Here are three ways to clean this mess up. 1) Give the 'death penalty' to the coaches, not schools, involved in major violations. Draw a line in concrete. 'These are Major Violations". Cross the line, you no longer coach in the NCAA. 2) Get the NBA to trash the One and Done rule. These 15 to 20 players per year are the targets for the big bucks from the shoe company. If you are an exec for Adidas, who do you target, the Justin Tatum's of the world or the Aaron Hines'? (Names only for examples.) 3) Dismantle the AAU circuit. The primary goal of the AAU system is to fund itself. Once you get to the higher AAU levels, the goal is to bring in enough money to keep your machine running. It is not about the players, it is about the people running the show. Their hands are out all the time. "Give our team your shoes and we will talk later." Do you think these players are paying their airfare to places like Atlanta, Vegas, etc? Are they paying for their $200 per night hotel room? The money is coming from 'sponsors' who aren't sponsoring these teams as a matter of civic pride. They know there is payback down the line. Good post, HoosierPal. Especially #2 -- how can any Kentucky fan get to know the team or the players when it just cycles over year after year?? It dilutes the whole college basketball experience. We got to know and love the Cody Ellises and Rob Lowes and Dwayne Evanses of the world because they came in and grew and matured with the program. And our guys received more than a basketball education - they went to class and graduated! That's what college is all about (in places not named Lexington, Ky). slufan13
The best available players are always going to be paid whether the one and one rule exists or not. If Jordan Goodwin is the #1 recruit who is not going to go straight to the NBA, schools will try to pay him to come to their school. I agree with #1 to an extent. They already have the show cause rules in place that follow the coaches. If a school gets the 'death penalty', which is obviously very rare, they could dole out a stricter show cause type rule to the coach. #2 - I do wonder if we will see an uptick in guys going to the D League out of high school and then being eligible for the draft the next year. brianstl
Nike is now part of the investigation. https://twitter.com/darrenrovell/status/913394329984671746 This really might be what makes the shoe companies walk away from AAU. At some point they have to ask themselves if the scandals are hurting market share more than backing AAU is helping.

Somehow this situation makes Mizzou look cleaner.
