Yes, my father-in-law was at SLU when SLU was ranked #1 in 1949.

My god father was on the team (John Cordia).  Someone needs to let all those folks out there that say we don't have the history that some other schools do that we ranked ahead of Creighton & Dayton.

I thought the same thing re #69 SLU being ranked ahead of both #76 Dayton and #82 of Creighton of Omaha, as it sits in SLU's Big East seat.  SLU could have used this study back in 2013 when we kept hearing about Sweet 16's, etc.

SLU is also tied with much maligned LaSalle for 2nd among A10 schools, only 1 spot behind #68 UMass.  Also note that VCWho is not on the list.

I most certainly informed a few Old Blues that SLU is ranked ahead of #77 Cal Berkeley.  It's good to be ranked ahead of Cal.  Absolutely!

That historical ranking doesn't align well with more recent indicators.  DePaul, Bradley, Western Kentucky, Duquesne, Holy Cross, Penn, Seattle, Loyola (Ill.), and Jacksonville haven't been nearly so good in the last, what, 30 years?

Looking forward to seeing Saint Louis move up that list.  Need to put these past three gly ("u" trying to get away) years in the rear-view mirror, and the 2017-18 squad isn't likely to appear in the Top 25, either.  (However, the 2011-12 squad didn't either, and that may have been the best SLU has been the past 30 years.)

Making the top 25 is more about the historical success and name recognition of the program than it is about actual performance in-season.

If you want to get serious about rankings, use the computer models.

The Top 25 poll is mostly a prestige thing, and that is very important. It's an indication of the perceptions around your program. It took SLU a few years to get the kind of success to get the national media to notice and put SLU in the rankings.. The result was Jim Crews' hiring, with the surrounding media clamor to hire him. Be careful what you wish for.

Would agree with you except for Western Kentucky.  They been good over the last 30 years. Not great but good.  A couple of sweet sixteens, 11 NCAA tournaments, 11 conference championships and 17 seasons is at least 20 wins.

The Hilltoppers are among the most underrated programs in the country. Definitely more than a step above the other programs you mentioned over that time period.
