Life on the Road: Olean Edition

Some may remember Tom Timmerman's Life on the Road Blog Posts (which I personally enjoyed).  Thanks to twitter, we can recreate this for the Billiken Bus Trip Tonight.

SLU first had a little trouble getting to Oleans

The Billikens then had a tough loss

But the night would just get tougher...

And the Billikens chilled...

The Rammer though got a little excited

So Earl took over as play by play announcer, bringing the classic Austin flair

The situation started getting national attention

However, within the above article, a classic mistake was made

Quote

The St. Louis Bilikins were 700 miles away from home, and probably not in the greatest of moods after a 70-55 loss to St. Bonaventure Wednesday night in Olean, N.Y.

Duquense (who has experience) offered their help...

Then Crawford had a bright idea...

...and it worked

Crawford was happy...

And the SLU Managers Rejoiced

And Earl was in for a late flight

And Rammer puts down the Boxed Wine

And stu fills in with the details...

And Timmermann wishes he was there

The big question for me is why would the driver of a chartered bus decide to take off with all the equipment but without the team? The driver is certain to be charged with a number of charges, plus certainly will be fired. What motive could she possibly have had?

CBS news reported she was charged with DUI...making me think she left the game, had a few, then lost track of time, realized she was too soused to drive, said 'What the heck just hang out here!'

Some things I've read suggest that she didn't exactly inspire confidence with her driving before the game. May have drank during the game as well, but it might have been some combo of the two.

Sitting safely in St. Louis, and knowing that everyone and everything is safe, this is pretty funny.

In retrospect, it is a good thing that the drunk driver stole the bus and didn't drive the team to the charter, having a 0.22% on the breath analyzer.  This could of had a much different ending.

That is entirely correct HoosierPal. A drunk driver in a bus with the SLU basketball team plus coaches is not a safe proposition. If an accident had happened with everyone in the bus, the outcome might have been pretty bad. I believe the Georgetown basketball team bus, driving to a game against Villanova had a recent accident involving a van which apparently rolled over several times. No one died, but the team had various dings and injuries they were rattled and lost the game

Knowing that the team is back home safely, the worst part of this crazy incident is that it has taken the Billikens.com focus off of what is really important-----------who is going to leave the team after this year to open up scholarships for 2017-19:huh:

Just listened to Earl Austin describe last night's episode.  A team manager had seen the bus when he brought post game pizza's in at the 8 minute mark.  When the team went out after the game, it wasn't there.  So she went rogue sometime after the 8 minute mark.  It was Ford's ipad that was on the bus, but Crawford had the idea of tracking it.  Earl brought up the DUI issue and said they were very fortunate the bus was gone.  They finally got to Chaifetz at 2:30 am.

The same bus driver got lost going to the hotel on Tuesday, and going to the game Wednesday, she went to the wrong entrance, and drove up over the curb getting to the gym.  Earl said the team handled it pretty well, joking about how their stuff would be on ebay next day.  Earl said in retrospect it was a blessing they didn't have her drive the team to the plane.

Earl said it has been encouraging seeing this team come along on the court.

Here is the write up in the Olean paper. Thank God the Billiken team did not get on the bus with her.

Best of luck for the rest of the season!

This is the last time we're getting discount Sherpa services.
