kwyjibo
Neither SLU nor any A10 team is in any of the top 25/30 preseason rankings (only VCU and Dayton getting any votes with NSCAA and college soccer news). NSCAA (coaches): http://www.nscaa.com/web/Rankings/web/rankings/2016/Preseason/NCAA_DI_MEN.aspx College Soccer News: http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index.php/polls/csn-preseason-top-30-poll/937-college-soccer-news-2016-preseason-national-poll Top Drawer Soccer: http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-national-rankings/men SLU will be starting at two of the top preseason favorites UNC and Wake Forest (both easily in the top 10 consensus). They also will play Denver and Indiana who are consensus top 20. Louisville and Tulsa are not ranked preseason but Tulsa gets some votes in NSCAA and CSN. Tilkowsky
Considering SLU was so poor last year I don't think it is surprising. the A-10 is definitely not the ACC or Big East for soccer. Seems like they knew what they were talking about not ranking SLU since they were shutout by Jefferson Community College.

kwyjibo
Totally off topic but Carleton was 4-0 in NCAA DI exhibitions (their margin of factory averaged nearly 30 pts including a 25 point victory over Wichita St.) this month. I have said it before but the phrase "Duke of Canada" is an insult to Carleton as they are much better (the men's UConn of Canada?). They have won 12 of the last 14 CIS championships (including 50 and 37 point wins--their last 7 championships have been double digit wins). That could actually be a real person, too. #CommonwealthGames

SLUBALLS
Game was ugly, poor quality all around, six shots for SLU, one forced save by Jeff Co....but considering there were so many new faces on the field only playing in their second game together, it was not completely surprising. I thought the backline looked nice and several guys played well enough to be starters including a big new freshman and Juco transfer. The best player on the field for SLU in my opinion was our German left back.....he just had immense quality on the ball and was PROACTIVE. We sorely missed a dynamic playmaker like Graydon from the last few years. But SLU has to figure it all out quick given the tough schedule ahead of them. Lastly, the field is in horrible shape....began to wonder if they simply need to tear it all up and replace it with new grass turf.
Tilkowsky
There were only six new faces (Freshman) on the field. Eighteen players were were upperclassmen.

Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 and then lost to Mainz by the same score a few days later. Liverpool have had a mediocre start to the season and Barca looked great in their first La Liga game. No need to overreact to a poor result vs a community college. Over the course of a season, our talent will determine our success more than anything else and it looks like we have a decent amount of that. Probably not enough to be overly optimistic about making a deep run in the NCAAs, but something is there. I would agree, however, that McGinty has earned himself a place on the hot seat. If we don't win the A10/get to the NCAAs, he should probably start looking for a new job. If we drop out in the first round or two, May should be willing to pull the trigger if a high-level replacement becomes available.

You missed the fact that three others - Carson, Duncan, and Akeem - are all transfers in. So 9 new faces. In addition, out of the guys who are upperclassmen and were here last year, only 7 saw significant playing time last year: Brown, Karcher, Saar, Hein, Saad, Otte and Minors. The others saw zero to very limited minutes. So, I think it's fair to say we had a lot of new faces on the field either judging by time at SLU or time ever on the field for SLU which adds up to a disjointed effort.....which is not unexpected but tough to watch.
