... who destroyed VCU last night 82 to 55 at Davidson. More than made up for that five-point loss to the Rams in Richmond.

Vaunted HAVOC lost the turnover battle at 16 to 12. And once again their "skills" section was incredibly liught shooting 6% from trey (1-of-15) and only 50% at the foul line making and missing 12 each. Big guns Graham and Johnson scored 4 points each. Shaka got wioed. VCU won the tip while Davidson scored the first 7 points of th egame andn ever trailed from there. Davidson picked for 12th in the conference. Yeah, inthat regard, those A10 bloggers were slightly off.

Going to come down to who can win on the road Saturday and cliam the #1 position and maybe league outright title. Dayton has to go to La Salle where they should win but you can never really know with the Explorers. Davidson has to go to Duqesne and play. Dayton is at 4 pm while Davidson is at 7. Davidson will kno wif they are playing for the title at tip. A tie gives the Wildcats the #1 seed based on their 77 to 60 win over Dayton in January.

So number one and two will be decided and we all know the 14th and last seed is locked on us. Rhode Isalnd is hosting St. Joe's and should win. If that does indeed happen they get the #3 seed. VCU is at Mason and should win. If Richmond beats us, as they should, Richmond will getthe four and VCU the five. Umass is at GeeDubya and a GeeDubya win, coupled with a Bonnie win in Otterville over Fordham will create a three-way tie for sixth. In that scenario, GeeDubya gets #6, the Bonnies #7 and Umass #8. A Umass win and they get #6 all alone with the Bonnies the #7 and GeeDubya #8. Nine and ten appear to be La Salle and St. Joe's but Duquesne could jump up into contention by beating Davidson tomorrow night.

If the four bottom feeders all lose, as i suspect will happen, then the Wendesday lineup will be Mason against Fordham and us against Duquesne. Unfair. Isn't the Barclays like a home game for Fordham???? Place willbe packed with fans disguised as empty seats. The upper deck will again be curtained off.

They might even have to curtain half the lower deck in Brooklyn on Wed. night, or one end like at the Checkerdome under Ekker.

VCU has collapsed with the 2 key injuries. Even VCU could not overcome injuries to its 2 best players. Weber is out for the year, which makes it a bit different. But VCU's demise does remind of SLU's 4th Quarter of the season tailspin in '14.

VCU has really been punished with some bad juju ever since that Final Four run. No A-10 title yet again, and it looks like they'll have to settle for fifth place in a down season for the conference, counting the tiebreaker with Richmond.

They played at the Checkerdome under Ekker?? Was that just for "big" games?

During the 4 years of Ekker ('78-'82) all SLU home games were played at The Checkerdome (St. Louis Arena).

During the one preceding Ron Coleman year ('77-'78), the SLU home games were played at old Kiel Auditorium.

When Rich Grawer took over after Ekker, one of the first moves was moving the games back to old Kiel Auditorium.

Old Kiel Auditorium was a much better venue for SLU Basketball than the cavernous Checkerdome IMO.

In Grawer's last year ('91-'92), the games moved back to the Checkerdome, as old Kiel was to be demolished for what is currently known as the Scottrade Center.

The Bills played in the Arena from 68-73, Kiel from 73-78, then the Checkerdome (Arena) from 78-82, then back to Kiel 82-91 and then back to the Arena 91-94. We played one game in West Pine in both 83-84 and 84-85. Those two games had to be "Rockhurst" level games. Anyone remember going to those two?

I was at both of them. They were weekday afternoon games against Blackburn College and Greenville College, Coach Grawer's efforts to bring the team onto campus.

SLU actually trailed Blackburn by 10 points at halftime, was booed off the court, but rallied in the 2nd Half and won in 2 OT's. Tony Brown had his biggest game for SLU.

The later Greenville game was a much easier victory.

West Pine Gym was quite a place to watch a game, looking around the pillars. No, it was pretty bad. The SLU Women's team played there.

Kiel Auditorium was a really good venue for hoops.

Sounds like The Curse........

VCU came to town on Jan 23 with a 15-3 record, 16th in the nation and a 10 game winning streak. It was just before that game we suffered a troll attack. ( see the 1st VCU game prediction thread) They just wouldn't let up. I tried to warn them but they wouldn't back off. So I leveled The Curse on them. (post 51) After that game they went 3-3...mysteriously nothing went right...injuries, bad plays, bad calls etc. Which takes us to the 2nd VCU game on Feb 23. Qarles and his crew were back ragging on us....Curse continues as a result (post 142 same thread) and since that game VCU is 1-3. . I believe their response is there is no such thing as a Curse. Perhaps they should call 773-404-2827 for another perspective. ( the last 4 numbers spell out a clue).
