9 Games In - Must Shorten Rotation!

While I'm far from being on the ledge about this team, Crews still needs to take some steps to make this a better team. I can't believe how irrational our fans continue to be with our Billiken teams. We're young, we knew going into this that there would be challenges. We knew we would have some very bad losses and while it hasn't happened yet, we will probably win a game or two we should probably lose. Let's keep in mind, that after a few times seeing the kids play people were calling for red shirts for Bartley and Gillmann. I was one of them. We were two games in and a couple were saying MY looked totally lost out there and didn't deserve to be out there. Still think that way? We know more now about this team than we did 7 - 8 games ago, but we still have a lot more to learn. However, in order to learn that, I really believe Crews has to shorten his rotation.

For those saying our upperclassmen are worthless and bring nothing - I would agree on Manning.

We all knew McBroom was a streaky shooter, but is he one of the upperclassman who bring nothing? McBroom still leads the team in scoring. If you look at total production per 40 minutes, he's second on the team in scoring. He's second on the team in FT%. He's put up 26 pts. 24 pts. and 15 pts. in games. Yes, he's had 2 and 3 point games, but we knew he was a streaky shooter. McBroom is shooting .439% from 3pt with more than 40 attempts. If you look at a minimum of 40 attempts, he is in the top 30 players in the country with his 3pt%. I'll take it and he needs to play.

Are we talking about Ash? Ash is nine games into his Billiken career and he's second on the team in scoring. Yes, his average has dropped but if you look at total 40 min production, he's still in the top 4 in scoring. He has the BEST defensive rating on the team. He's our best rebounding guard. He actually leads the entire team in rebounding average, as a guard. You may say he gets more minutes than others, but then let's look at total per 40 minute production - he's in the top 3 in rebounding. We knew Ash was a defensive specialist and a good rebounding guard coming in and he has lived up to those expectations and more. He needs to get his slashing to the basket shots to fall or he needs to get better at drawing the foul. He has been brutal from three and that needs to improve. He absolutely needs to see minutes though.

I said going into this season that one of the keys is that we either need to have 4 players score nine or more points in a game or 3 players need to score 10 points or more. That is hard to do with a 12 man rotation, but having a number of players score 2,3, and 4 points just doesn't work. Players never really get in the right rhythm offensively. For the most part, this has pretty much been true.

Games: SIU - we had 3 players with 10 or more points, we won. IndSt - we had 3 players with 10 or more points - we won. TAMCC - only one player with 10 or more - we lost. NCA&T - we had just 2 or more with 10 points - barely one. MissSt. - one with 10 or more - we lost. Bradley - we had 3 with 10 or more - we won. Bradley - 5 with 9 or more - we won. WichitaSt - 2 with 9 or more - we lost. SDSU - one with 10 or more - we lost.

Crews has to shorten this rotation and quickly! He has to see this?? There are only about 30 teams worse than us in the WHOLE country with a worse 2FG%. We're one of the worst in the country for overall FG%. We're in the bottom 1/3 of the country in FT%, which is unfortunate as we in the top 25 in the country in FTA. We are one of the worst in country in pts per game.

Shorten the rotation, clean up the free throw shooting, and see what happens.

I loved one particular lineup last night: the 2,3,4,5,25 lineup. McBroom, Ash, Roby, MY, and AG. Bring Reggie, Bartley, Reynolds, and Jolly off the bench. Have Manning and Crawford available in certain games depending on the situation. If you shorten the rotation, the guys that want in the lineup have to work their ass off to crack the lineup.

Are Tanner and Grandy going to be the water boys?

Tanner will have to work to crack the lineup. Grandy has yet to play a game this season. We have no idea what he will bring yet or if his injuries will impair his play moving forward. When Grandy comes back, Crews will give him an opportunity to play to see how things go. I think his energy can be a lift for the team if he contribute consistently.

Agree on Grandy giving a jolt of energy if/when he comes back.

Tanner is an enigma. He has flashes and has no problem giving effort but he appears to have lost his shot. Hopeful he keeps the right attitude and fights through it. The team could use his skill set.

He passed up what appeared to be a few open looks last night. Not a good sign.
