Just wondering what those of you who have seen Pickett play think of his game? What are his strengths and what might he have to work on?

didnt seen him play, but he was the only player to work wg all year. He went for 40(?) against us

Pickett also had 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. It was a sensational effort that earned him most valuable player honors, but one that he ultimately wishes ended with a victory.

“It's hard because I wanted the win for my teammates because they wanted the win,” Pickett said. “I just wish that I could get the win.”

I saw Pickett vs Wg and Belleville West this year.  He's a good wing and isn't afraid to go to the rim.  He's got a good outside game too.  He set the record at the Highland tournament vs Ramey. I'd take him in a heartbeat.  Him, Goodwin and Thatch would be fun to watch.

Pickett knows how to score.  He's adept at finding angles to the rim and has a good mid-range jump shot.  Can finish with either hand.  Not afraid of contact.  Very streaky three point shooter.  Rebounds well for a lean guy.  Ballhandling and free throw shooting are just OK.

As brianstl pointed out on another page, if Pickett could slightly increase his three point percentage, he could be tough to defend in a couple of years.

Is there a dead period coming up?

The short answer to your question is: "We're in the middle of a brief one" and the longer answer is as follows:

April 6-19: Recruiting period, except:

-April 10-13: Dead period

April 20-July 5: Quiet period, except:

-April 21-23 and 28-30 and NBA draft combine: Evaluation period for specified events

-May 18-26: Dead period

July 6-31: Dead period, except for three specific evaluation periods during the month (basically Wednesday night through Sunday afternoon the last three weekends of the month)

What's a quiet period?

During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus.  A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

I was told last night that Goodwin is back and running full throttle without restrictions.

If anyone wants to be in an even better mood, enter 'jordan goodwin' in a YouTube search bar and watch highlights for a little bit. Man, is he good.

Within the next week we should start hearing more news on recruits. We should fill in our roster by the end of April. Also still hoping we can have Gillman as a walk on. Wasting a scholarship and a poor reminder of the crews era. Some may think it's fine to keep him but we need someone a hell of a lot better than gillman in case we have bigs injured or in foul trouble. Just wasting a Schollie that could be for a grad transfer or regular transfer.

Gillmann's scholarship is already spoken for in 2018 so slu would already be over committed by one.  Could make adding more in 2018 even more difficult.  Slu was not good enough last year to add an impact grad transfer as lots of schools are after those kids and a normal transfer just sits on the bench like Gillmann will.

It would only be a grad transfer as either Thatch or Gordon would take his scholarship next year. I don't see SLU getting a quality center as a grad transfer this year.

We don't need a center, just another big. Basically another French. And athletic big like French is far more valuable than a clunky center when we are supposed to have a fast paced offense.

Also slu is going full press on Pickett rn.

A grad transfer is immediatly eligible.

Dead period doesn't mean you cant contact the player at all. It's also a quiet period.

It's a dead period. See the above ^^

In a dead period you can't have any face to face contact with a recruit. So yes you can text and call them, but I wouldn't call that a "full press" at all.
