Billiken Banquet - April 28

Recommended Posts

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University will hold a men's basketball banquet at Chaifetz Arena Sunday, April 28, to celebrate the 2012-13 season.

Tickets are $30 per person and may be purchased by calling the Billiken Ticket Office at 314-977-4SLU or by email at [email protected]. Tickets must be purchased by 5 p.m. Thursday, April 25. Tickets will not be available the day of the event.

Doors open at 5 p.m. for a reception, with the dinner and program slated to begin at 6 p.m. Guests will park in the Fred Weber VIP Lot and enter through the Chaifetz Arena VIP entrance on the west side of the building.

The Billikens are coming off their best season in school history. Saint Louis, which finished with a school-record 28 victories, captured Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season and tournament titles. It was SLU’s first outright regular-season conference crown since 1957. The top-seeded Billikens won their first A-10 tournament title by knocking off Charlotte, Butler and VCU at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

SLU received a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, its best-ever seeding. The Billikens defeated New Mexico State in the second round before falling to Oregon in the round of 32. For the first time in school history, the Billikens won NCAA Tournament games in consecutive seasons, as SLU also won a second-round game in 2011-12.

Additional highlights of the 2012-13 season include memorable victories against New Mexico, Butler and VCU at Chaifetz Arena. The Billikens, who were ranked as high as No. 13, had a school-record five victories against ranked opponents. Cody Ellis was named Sixth Man of the Year in the A-10, while Dwayne Evans was named first-team All-Conference. In addition, Kwamain Mitchell and Jordair Jett were named third-team All-Conference. Jett was named to the All-Defensive team, while Evans was an All-Academic team selection. Jim Crews earned National Coach of the Year plaudits from Sporting News and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Included in the celebration will be special recognition for Billiken seniors Cody Ellis, Femi John, Kwamain Mitchell and Cory Remekun.

Just got the email on this. Has anyone gone in the past? Wondering what the event is like and if it is appropriate for kids to attend? Any thoughts?

Don't know what it will be like with this administration but they have always been kid friendly in the past.

Long time reader of this site but first time poster.

After such a great year we all need to appreciate that it is important that we turn out and support the team at the post season event. I know we all have busy lives, but this sort of event is really part of the fabric of a program which supports the team and recognizes the positive achievements and success of these young men. I would hope that all who are in town would consider attending and if you are on the fence please reconsider and attend. The players deserve our support! The parking is easy and the price is reasonable. thanks

From a player's perspective, Which festivity is more important to attend banquet or golf dinner?

That is a good question. The golf event has a built in group of attendees so it should be well attended but there is very little done to recognize the players at that event--it is more informal with an auction and dinner. The post season banquet is specifically designed to recognize the success of the team and the players for this year. In terms of specific recognition the banquet will be a more focused event.

Come on guys tell us outlanders what happened.

As always, this event proved again what a great group of young men we have playing basketball for SLU. The event was reasonably well attended and held in the main area at CA. Bob R was the MC and Chris May spoke and the seniors introduced the rest of the players and the coaches and admin folks. The food was decent and overall the event went smoothly. Coach Crews was the final speaker and talked about the team and in particular the seniors and their accomplishments. Each senior said a few words. Again, the theme of family and the quality of the individuals on the team and the coaching staff was evident. Nothing groundbreaking but a nice evening.
